with that retention, he's an entirely serviceable 4C. His contract is terrible, but there's nothing wrong with the player.

As far as I know our season tickets have been on waiting list only for years, completely sold out!
I stopped going to games and buying anything TML related years ago as boycott but last step is to find a new team , may have to switch to the other Ontario team soon lol.</div></div>
You don't want to be a sens fan lol. Canada cup drought is mainly due to their being only 7 teams, and high tax rate. I'm from California and out state has the same population as your country. But like Marner said they are Gods and as much of a jack ass comment that is he is 100% right. That should be the comment that causes change not only in Toronto but in all of hockey Canada. I mean people give fanbases hell for not showing up when the team is bad but that is the best way of sending a message. Toronto could set the record for worst team 5 years in a row yet they'll still sell out every game. Good on you for boycotting, you support them in person if they are good, and on TV if they are bad

He is Giroux replacement, the guy is 36 and not getting younger. Batherson + Marner as our RWs of the future is good af. Cap is going up to so if this was the offer we should take it and run.

It should of happened when they blew the 3-1 series lead. But MLSE knows they don't have to worry about your fanbase boycotting the team. Marner comment is definitely a tradeable offense but he is 100% right

After the abuse they take from fans and media they will beg to be traded!</div></div>
Oh no I agree, JT is most certainly the worst out of the core 4. But his decline should of been expected, still he wanted to live a childhood dream and unless you treat him the way our fanbase did he won't waive. And 100% agree on him being a bad leader, maybe he is great in the locker room but on the ice no. This was very apparent to me when the leafs blew the 3-1 series lead after he went down with that brutal injury, the fact that the team could not only beat a much inferior opponent for their captain BUT lose on top of that is ridiculous

Keeping Marner for another season would set this team and franchise back. The play is to move on, even if it's for a weak return because the cap space will allow the Leafs to be aggressive in free agency and the trade market.

If you took out some of the picks (maybe 2nd + 4th?) and added either Larsson or Borgen, Leafs would probably pull the trigger, assuming Marner has a rough playoffs and waives his NMC.

Larsson/Borgen is miles better than Brodie/Liljegren. Idk what world you’re living in if you think they’re not.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brandoncrowell91</b></div><div>You're stupid if you think the leafs management has been garbage</div></div>
It has been garbage.
Dubas traded two 2nds to get 38 year old Giordano, while Colorado got Toews for two 2nds and Vegas got Alec Martinez for two 2nds. Those two defencemen contributed to stanley cups for their teams.
Dubas and Shanahan misused assets and gave away a lot of good players and picks for nothing in return.
Treliving seems like a more level headed GM. Hopefully he understands the value of picks and prospects to the long term success of a team.

All the elite top pair defense would just have too high of a cap and Larsson has a great contract with 2 years left , not a rental.</div></div>
Will need to give them more though, probably Niemela instead of Timmins or in addition to him. Timmins is not much of a prospect anymore, but more like a young player that's been injury-riddled which has prevented him from making his mark, so he's not exactly the nicest asset to get.

Not even close to true, he was on point for a 34 point season last year before coming to Toronto while averaging 15 minutes per game. He was also #1 in the league in possession zone entries on the PK (normally correlated to best penalty killers). He was also 53% on the faceoff and was starting 60%+ of his shifts in the D zone.

Is an OTT trade for defense possible now with OTT not doing well
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SomeonesOffended</b></div><div>Not needed when there’s cheaper options</div></div>
We've tried cheaper options and we've been spending our firsts every year to get them, only for them to show they're not good enough. This would be a no Brainer for the Leafs, You're acquiring a top pair D who's signed at 2.3 for 2 more years and can play both ways, along with a solid partner for Rielly who's signed for 4 more years at less than 5 mil. Kastelic is also younger than Kampf and is an RFA at league min. This D core is actually capable of winning a cup, now and in the future.
Last year the Leafs shipped out two 1sts, two 2nds, a 3rd, a 4th, Sandin, Abramov, Gogolev, Anderson and Engvall. All we have to show for it now is McCabe, Cowan, and three 5ths. Zub and Chychrun are both more valuable than McCabe and Liljegren, and would solidify our D core for the distant future.

played 19:21 a night in ANA, that's not really bottom pair. Physical big young D that could do better with the more fitting minutes that the Leafs would give him, doesn't have to be a major difference maker but could definitely find his way to contribute in a limited role. Solid depth at league min, can't knock it

I could see him sharing a spot with Gio honestly. He's that prototypical big physical defensemen that every team will be calling on / wanting when he becomes a full-time NHLer. He has a lot of potential

That is fair.... but if Brodie were to move, I would be looking for a Lafferty 2.0 upgrade so to speak with the pick.
Sometimes improving the defense requires improving the bottom 6.

That's 6 1/2 years from now. Nylander might get 10 mil AAV in UFA. But it's not guaranteed.
My point is players ask for numbers all the time. They don't always get it. Look at Bertuzzi. He was looking for 7 mil AAV on a long term contract.
Yzerman never gave it to him and neither did any other GM. He had to settle on a 1 year deal for 5.5 mil with Toronto.
