Three Team Trade With Carolina and Toronto
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>shmoeman</b></div><div>its a cool trade but no way the canes accept</div></div>
Wait why isn't Carolina accepting. They're getting a guy who has been a top 10 scorer in the last 3 or 4 years and a starting goalie (admittedly Gaudreau is coming off a bit of an off season but is still in his prime). That seems like exactly what they're looking for

Would Columbus Be Interested
Columbus jumps at this and flips Hanifin or Gavrikov for more offensive help. That trade isn’t even close, Calgary should decline this.
Though I can also say Columbus would have to send cap back to Calgary for this trade to happen, Wennberg and Murray would have to go back.

As good as the pieces coming to Columbus are, this trade doesn't work for a couple reasons.
1) We can't afford to take on both Monahan and Hanifin, because we have to extend PLD and Gavrikov. And our D corps is already overstocked, and we'll be looking to trade away one of Murray/Savard/Nuti.
2) Foudy has been marked as off-limits, as has Tex. Bemstrom is a possibility.
3) Make it Andy and Bemstrom and I think Columbus leaps at the opportunity.

If the Panthers Really Lose Their Minds Like Really
Not to be rude, but if you have to rely on a team absolutely losing their minds it's probably not a good idea.
With the flat cap you are losing at least one of Tkachuk, Gaudreau and Barkov in 2 years. I doubt Seattle is going to be willing to take on big contracts in that same flat cap world.

Is Pionk available
We wouldn't want Gio but it could be possible to move Pionk if we were acquiring a top pair RHD in the process.
I.e. We have Poolman on the third pair, sign DeMelo or Hamonic as a free agent to play on the second pair and then acquire a top pair RHD somehow.
I wouldn't be interested in this particular offer but getting Gio means we could send Pionk back. I think we're just looking for younger players. For example if you kept Gio and gave us Andersson instead, we could move Pionk back in a deal like that.

Tampa Side of Point Deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlevinKalevra</b></div><div>I feel like that’s an over pay for Point. Don’t see Calgary giving up Maki</div></div>
If I’m being honest I agree, but Point is the dynamic 1C with a good shot we desperately need. Valimaki was the sticking point that prevented us from acquiring Stone, another guy that woulda made a huge difference to this team so I doubt he gets moved but if he did it would have to be in a deal like this, and he shouldn’t be the thing that nixes a deal like this imo. Hoping for some big balls from Brad but I don’t think we’ll get that 1C unfortunately, this is just a realistic scenario that would be beneficial for both sides.

What did Calgary/Winnipeg do? Between the 2 teams Laine is the only player in their entire history to be a top 3 pick. Both of those teams are significantly more worthy of the #1 than Edmonton, Pittsburgh, or Toronto.

He is 32 and will be pulling $10M till he is 37!! That is a disaster move for the future. I love Sam but noway he can be a 2nd line centre. Mony for Dumba is smart - but slot Lindholm in to centre that line with Trochek centring line 2. Take the $5M savings and get another top 6 forward or play Sam there.

Gaudreau for Dumba and Hamonic for Johnson
I get that Gaudreau for Dumba is a traditional hockey trade, but Johnny really does have more upside (his AAV and term, for example) while it's been hard to see Dumba's potential because of injuries. However, I don't <em>hate</em> the trade - I think you'd just have to get more from MIN's side of it.
Dumba/1st Rd Pick for Gaudreau would convince me :smirk

Dream scenario
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Flames22</b></div><div>As a Flames fan, that is really interesting. It gives us the right-handed second-line centre that we need, and because Hamonic is a UFA, the price is not extraordinary.
Only thing is I'm not sure what (Calgary's) management's mindset is right now. I'm not sure if they want to load up for a run this year, if they want to sell off and try again next year, or do a combination of both. Obviously whatever this mindset is could affect their decision to trade Hamonic. I think this is a good suggestion though!</div></div>
with 4 years term Johnsons a long term move
Hamonic can be replaced for a reasonable cost just acquire a guy like Gostishbhere who has 4 years term at a reasonable price . (i dont see any higher then a 1st and a top prospect or player under 25 from the roster with value like a Bennet for example would fit their system )Ghost plays both RD and LD giving CGY options and ownership to 2/5 NHL D capable of playing both sides in a top 4 capacity productively.
Johnson would be a good fit for you guys and he's a playoff performer who before Point was a roster member was top 3 TBL scoring in the post season between Kucherov and Stamkos .

they are looking for a LHD DMan to partner with Ekblad long term, Thats the key piece in any deal... Kylington isnt a top pairing Dman and Brodie is a pending UFA that plays the right side. I dont see them biting on it to be honest
Hanafin would likely start to get their attention

Thread:
Monahan is a 2C Backlund is a 3C
Yes Backlund should be playing 3C, that was the entire purpose of going after Kadri in the off season. Its not necessarily that Monahan is the teams current 1C that is the issue. Its more that a team needs both center depth and balance. By moving Lindholm to 1/2C split with Monahan it gave the team center depth but opened up a massive hole on the right wing. Before Robinson was brought up Calgary was 1 of only 2 teams in the league without a right handed winger in the line up (because Czarnak is in Stockton and both Ryan and Lindy are down the middle). The other being Detroit and they aren't exactly having a hot year.
More or less the point I'm making is a team doesn't need an elite status center to succeed (17-18 Vegas, 18-19 Sharks, Carolina, Nashville, Arizona, Columbus, Philly, Tampa, NYI). Last year the Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm line was one of the most successful in the NHL, right up next to Colorado's and Boston's in terms of production and chemistry. However the teams secondary scoring was certainly an issue and it clearly showed when the first line struggled at the beginning of this year. Backlund taught Tkachuk how to play a good 2-way game but Chucky still had to solo carry that line all season offensively.
Over the next 3 weeks Treliving has a couple options; he can look for a new right handed replacement for the Monahan line, or he can bank on bringing in a 2C (ideally right handed) like JGP to play with Tkachuk and Mango and put Lindholm back on the RW
If the team can move forward with a line up as follows and get its synergy working again the team should succeed
Gaudreau - Monahan - New RHW/Lindholm
Tkachuk - New 2C/Lindholm -Mangiapane
Dube - Backlund - Bennett (unless traded for above piece)
Lucic - Ryan - Rieder
