Bergevins playbook on crack
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>You're trades aren't great from an Oilers standpoint:
- Klefbom is at least as valuable as Ehlers, if anything it's WPG that adds slightly
- RNH is worth more that Gostisbehere, PHI would need to add
The end result is a worse team: RNH > Ehlers, Klefbom >> Gostisbehere.</div></div>
RNH has 1 year left on contract at the time, Ghost has 3. What you are saying is true this season but only because RNH had a career year and Ghost had an off year. Ghost had 65 points the year before that. RNH does not have more value, certainly not on an expiring contract anyway.
Ehlers has more term, Klefbom is injury prone. Pretty sure WPG declines 1for1 straight up

Klefbom for Lehkonen and Poehling and Carolina Trade
I think the value is fairly steep for MTL, Poehling, Romanov + a 1st for Klefbom, sure he has a sweetheart contract but thats rich. It is an original idea, I will give you props for that. Just think MTL is giving up one asset too many

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>Thanks for you comments.
Two questions if Johnson would agree, does the trade make sense. Tampa needs RHD and Pearson would take Johnson's forward spot
The cap stays the same, Pearson playing in Tampa could easily get 20 or more goals (18 last year and 24 in '16-'17) and Tanev would be a solid top 4 defensemen.
Second, if the trade makes sense but not Johnson, who do you think Tampa would offer in his place?</div></div>
I dont think the trade is crazy in terms of value. I just can't see any reality in which Johnson would agree to leave TBL on his own terms. Strong friendships, great cup aspirations. Why would he want to go elsewhere?
I don't know who you could get instead. There's NTC's on every player in TBL, pretty much agreement to take less for the security of being able to stay in the city. I don't know the details on all of those contracts

Yes, and he'd sign this year too. It's just a placement player, maybe I should have added a note for that
On a side note, Brassard is not getting 4x4 from any team.

Broberg should not be in Edmonton until he has had 1 year playing for the Condors if you ask me. He has minimal experience playing in a small rink.
Benning's QO is at 1.9, I think he can make a case for a small raise. He's effective at his minutes. Both in play and in cost

I think you're falling into the typical Oilers trap if you run a guy that has only played 22 NHL games and scored 1 goal on your first line.
I think Benson would support RNH much better than Nygård/Gurianov aswell.

Trade With Rangers
This is essentially Namestnikov 1M retained for Puljujärvi after Manning is burried. Why trade for a 1 year UFA rental? Doesn't really help Oilers more then in the shortest of terms. Look at the roster. Is this a playoff team? No, this is the opposite of what Oilers should do.
I would like Oilers to hold onto JP until such time that he can be traded for decent value / equally struggling prospect.
Roslovic in WPG aint struggling but he has made several trade requests, maybe someone like him could be moved. I could see an interest in uniting Laine/JP

Optimal realism Oilers

If you play for the Oilers you pay 47.70% taxes, in tampa for example you'd pay 39.14%
Taking a 4M salary as an example: Playing for the Oilers you'd net 2.092 M USD after taxes, while TBL would only need to offer you a salary of 3 437 397 to net the same payout post taxes. Thats the biggest financial edge low tax teams has over high tax teams. Effectively, TBL could offer you a contract worth 500k less and it would still be a better salary

I did. I apologize for doing so. I still doubt WPG (or any team) has any issues re-signing RFAs. Who else than Trouba are you refering to? The way I see it there's always players that feels entitled to control their own destiny. WPG is a contender. No reason Nurse wouldnt sign long term if he got a good offer.

Still the same lazy, inaccurate narrative. Ehlers commitment has zero % to do with you assuming EDM can't sign their RFAs. There's no basis to your claim whatsoever. Last time WPG signed a decent free agent was 2014, and even then it's a stretch to call Matheiu Perrault quality. If the ability to attract free agents has zero correlation to the teams ability to re-sign their players, if it had, WPG wouldn't have a 20 man roster today.

Oh god. That ****ing narrative is so dumb and lazy. You do use this argument for your own players too? I suppose Laine and Connors days truly are numbered then.
Unless someone has requested a trade, or has shown legitimate signs of being disgruntled (like Trouba) there's zero reason to suspect said player would not want a big long term contract for alot of cash. Infact, it's exactly what Nurse wanted prior to signing the bridge deal.

Lets have a productive argument where one side doesnt spout fallacies. By playing with Domi / Kotkaniemi the most, Byron can't be called a 20 goal scoring 4th liner. Same goes for last season when he played with Drouin and Gallagher.
You still didnt answer when trading 21 YO for 30 YO became a reasonable thing to do.

So when did trading 21 YO RFAs for 30 YO UFA 3rd liners become reasonable trade requests? This is just so dumb. Rather see JP bust then any more Byron offers. Every damn MTL trade offer has Byron. If he has so much value keep him.

This is correct. I wonder how often a player signs with the same team without a qualifying offer though...
