More picks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Frost_</b></div><div>Flyers decline, no need to move a high-quality asset for current cap space when we could simply move Ellis to LTIR if needed</div></div>
this exactly. lots of people dont understand that PHI isnt really that close to the cap. Ellis is on IR not LTIR in order to accrue cap space.

Too much for Philly to be ok with probably. No reason to move our 1st round picks for guys like that in a rebuild if they even want to move him

Late first or decent prospect and a 3rd I'd say.
In Philly's case the Panthers 2024 first with top 10 protection would probably work.

Question about a draft rule
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>I'm not 100% but I'm going to say no they won't because he was drafted 4 years ago putting him out side the 2 year window.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ricochetii</b></div><div>That and players that don't sign are most often college committed, bringing them past the 2 year cutoff. The vast majority of 1st rounders will be signed or in a college program.</div></div>
2 years for junior, 4 years for NCAA (5 years if includes Covid year).
Since 2005...
Most of the former 1st round players who did not sign, and produced compensatory picks for their teams have been NCAA players.
-- AJ Thelen (2007): tricky case because he left Michigan State early
-- Blake Wheeler (2008) :Minnesota
-- David Fischer (2011): Minnesota
-- Patrick White (2012): Minnesota
-- Daultan Leveille (2013): Michigan State
-- Kevin Hayes (2015): Boston College
Only two were non-NCAA players, put on two-year window, didn't sign, and produced compensatory picks
-- Conor Bleackley (2016)
-- Filip Johansson (2022)
In 2023, there could be two candidates
-- #51 pick - PHI (Jay O'Brien)
-- #63 pick - BUF (Ryan Johnson)

2020-21: -24.34
2021-22: +0.59
He's a hair above average this season. There's nothing elite about his play the last 2 seasons. Edmonton's prospect Stuart Skinner is younger, cheaper and has posted a +1.01 GSAx so far this year. Is he worth multiple firsts? Of course not. So why is Hart?</div></div>
The team was absolutely garbage defensively last season and still is bad defensively. Hart is drastically better than skinner

An alternate universe.
Seriously though, why would Philly trade Hart? He’s who you build around. Unless you’re in a position to guarantee lottery picks, I genuinely wouldn’t trade him for three firsts. Hart is worth more than three mid-to-late-round firsts.

i'd probably say a 2nd is the value difference in a hypothetical trade but i still don't see them moving him unless it really moves the needle

i'd have to disagree with that Boeser is the better goal scorer and has a better PPG in his career and has the chemistry with Pettersson and Hughes ect, Value is fairly close but i still see Philly adding a bit

I think this is a reasonable trade straight up 1 for 1. Value is there on both sides.

A different take on the Giroux idea
I think the pick would have to be very good. Philly has little incentive to make this trade if Johnson is coming back. The can get a 1st and a prospect for Giroux alone. They might need to pay a 3rd team to retian extra but that's still probably better than taking on EJ.

Yeah I really doubt Philly retains that much and takes on an extra year of Johnson just to get a 1st and a prospect. Probably going to get a better haul from another team for less salary restraints.

Probably need to make it really worth PHI's while to get them to take Johnson. Acquiring EJ could really hamper their chances to sign a guy like Gaudreau if he hits UFA.
