What I Want To See
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Giakki</b></div><div>nobody taking a pay cut and the D is still crap.</div></div>
Who would you say is taking a pay cut here? I think Bert signs a 4.5m based on the 5-year term (it seems like all other offers he received in the past were 2-4-year deals). I think Domi takes a more team-friendly for a 4-year deal that has a full NMC in Toronto. I believe the contracts are fair value

hit the reset
Marner doesn’t waive and ANA has no interest in his contract demands because of what it’ll mean for the future contracts for all their young stars. Terry’s $7M is a great comp for us, no interest in following in TOR’s footsteps

Blockbuster Plus
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>The way Sanheim is playing, it might be the big/overpayment package that is needed.
I dont think you can drop niemala or cowan because the next prospect (except minten) is too far a drop, and wouldn;t interest PHI. (Theres a chasm between minten, cowan and niemala to the other prospects).
And dumping samsonov right now (and saving at least 2.4mil against the cap) is probably costing a 3rd and a bit more, a 5th? so in that respect its a very late in the round 1st and 2 very good prospects for long term sanheim, a 3rd and 5th, which doesn;t sound like a massive overpayment</div></div>
I agree with the Leaf prospects dropping off quick but I don't think you need to add anything for taking Samsonov. Almost every team acquiring Sanheim is gonna need to send money back & in this case Philly still saves actual dollars (& cap space) but with no long term implications.

Montreal isn’t going to happy with the first trade.
Second trade could possibly work for both sides.

Nylander is a Cap casualty
Leafs can run a 20 man to start the year and they are cap compliant. They did this last year. Several teams did this last year. Vegas ran 19 players to start a few years ago. More teams are doing this.
The Leafs DO NOT need to make any moves to be cap compliant. So no Nylander does not need to be a "cap casualty".
I do see a scenario where Nylander gets moved out, so that we can add a top end D man but you didn't do that here. (and it is probably unlikely as well)

I hate cheering for this team
Domi is not in any way a gritty player. He's decent offensively and horrible defensively. He's a cheap shot artist though and since that's all good to go in the playoffs, maybe he has some worth but he is just so bad defensively that I wouldn't want him

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Giakki</b></div><div>i think the trade is fair but on here who knows</div></div>
I don't think anyone can knock the framework, at least. It might need a touch of balancing either way. Kylington has had a tough go after showing some promise, but his speed could definitely be used on the Leafs back end. Nylander IMO holds a bit more value than Lindholm due to age & production.

mathews and Nylander
Slap an extension on Matthews. The trade would probably have the 2023 1st and someone like foligno also going to make the cap work. So would be rossi, boldy, foligno 2023 1st and a 2nd for him with an extension. I think that would be a more fair value trade.
As it is neither team would make the trade 1 year of Matthews for all that. Minnesota couldn’t afford it and it would totally throw off the whole cap situation.

Oh I’m not sure but it’s off by a lot. The difference is probably knies. In 48 playoff games marner has like 44 points I believe(less than ppg). In 45 games Drais has 72 I believe it was. It’s probably safe to say he is in the McJesus range for value.
