Scenario at the 2024 Draft
This is the kind of trade that leaves the franchise where it been stuck for decades, seeking a quick fix. You don’t win a cup with this thinking.

Can't wait to see what Monahan gets traded for.</div></div>
My guess is a 2nd plus a prospect or maybe a 1st that’s conditional. Many of our fans are very impatient with rebuilds, which is why the team has not done a proper one for some time.

I would be very happy to see Boston let Beecher go for a draft bust but I’m also a Habs fan.

I do not see us getting someone like Barlow for him. A 1st by itself is plenty.

Goalies just don’t carry the value they once did. Goalies on bad contracts really don’t carry any. Why would you waste 6 million dollars on him when you can sign someone cheap like LA did and pair them with Hofer?

A guy who scored 31 goals last time he played a season on a good team should be worth around the 30th pick in the draft. That’s a fair price. Hertl’s contract is not bad when you look at it in a few years with a cap at 90 plus million.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>goodaytoday</b></div><div>I'm curious with your point 6. You say sit back and watch the prospects develop. Do you play them in the NHL, or do you keep them as far away from this diseased cesspool as you can and play them in the AHL, to maximize their development?</div></div>
That’s a great question you asked and I’d be curious to see his response as a Hawks fan because outside of Bedard it’s usual the safe thing to let young players either go back to juniors or play in the AHL. The Habs have been doing it right with our rebuild so far. Pushing a player into too many NHL games when they’re not ready leads you to a Lafrenière situation.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>siamro</b></div><div>Can't see that Dallas gives up that for Hertl. I think Hertl's value is lower. You can start with taking way the 1st round pick</div></div>
Faksa and Marchment are not valuable, so that’s over 7 million in dead money that’s going out the door. Hertl is valuable and is certainly worth a 1st. What else they’d get is up for debate and it may very well be lower than what I proposed but he would be worth a 1st easily. Karlsson even got a 1st with a long injury history and a bad contract. Hertl’s contract isn’t so bad given it’s long term with a rising cap coming.

Duclair scored 31 goals the last time he played a full season on a good team. That’s easily worth a late 1st to a team trying to win a cup. And Arvidsson is going to miss most of this season after back surgery.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tennisman142</b></div><div>Blues decline. Hofer only has 9 games in the NHL, he is not ready to become the starter so we need Binnington to shoulder the load. Plus he has been playing well so far. We also have no need for Benning or Granlund.</div></div>
A few good games in October don’t make up for over a season of bad play. Binnington has no value and is one of several goalies that could be dumped to save millions. Goalie value is at an all time low and the new model has been go cheap unless you have a sure thing.

Number 31 deserves to be retired
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>future_gm</b></div><div>This has nothing to do with what Carey Price accomplished. For most of the people. he was their idol growing up including me. After all of these years where we failed miserably to put up a decent team infront of him he still decided to stay. After all of the shi* he was receiving from the media he still decided to stay loyal. After 15 years in Montreal and what he did, not retiring his number would be so ignorant and upsetting. And yet again after all of this it’s always going to be the same old quebecors saying he doesn’t deserve it. If he was named Pierre Martin trust me it wouldn’t be the same.</div></div>
There’s a major difference in how the younger fans view players and how old ones like myself do. Price has been the best Habs player that you’ve probably ever seen. I was fortunate enough to grow up in the best of times. Nevertheless I would have no objections at all to retiring his number.
