making it WORK
How about dont sign Stastny. Re sign Danault 6M and Tatar 6M drop Byron, Armia, Kulak... No Chiasson. Promote Poehling, Evans.
Drouin Suzuki Gally
Tatar Danault Toffoli
Caufield KK Anderson
Lehkonen Poehling Evans
Make that work.

Fair. I'd rather have Byron. He just costs too much.

Bergevin is going to have to pay his UFA forwards a lot
Gallagher is certainly worth 6.5 million per year and shouldn't get a penny less. He's best player in the team a'd scores 30 goals.
Danault has all the intangibles is a great player and definitely in the selke conversation. He needs more points to be getting more money but he's easily worth 5.5 million per season. Can't see another team paying 6 million or more in this climate. Tatar easily gets 5. 5 million.
You need almost 7 million to sign all three. Plus you gotta up Kotkaniemi on a bridge deal. If he lights it up this year even worse. Next year Byron, Jake Allen, Kulak, and Armia are gone to pay for Danault, Gallagher and Kotkaniemi. Tatar walks, enter Caufield.

Granlund
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yikes</b></div><div>Granlund signing for 3 mil is not realistic although I wish it was</div></div>
Agreed. Likely cant get him that cheap. Good thought though. Also he's more likely a center.
Don't see the need to trade Byron. Keep him and bury Weal. Sign Granlund, Haula or Kahun for a under 3,300,000 to stay under the cap.
Haula would be an ideal choice if you can get him under 3,300,000. Potentially throw high signing bonus at him to lower the cap hit might get it done.
Kahun is the cheapest option and a decent one if you consider the savings. Think you get more from Huala and Granlund though.

Montreal Next Year
If we sign Dadonov for four years at 7 million, we can't sign Danault, Gallagher and/or Tatar. Armia, Kk also RFAs next year.
The answer is do nothing. It's already done. Anderson solved the need. Keep the core. Sign Danault, Gallagher and Tatar of you can. Most likely have to trade Tatar or let him walk. Drouin moves up. Enter Caufield.
With the addition of Anderson and the improvement and maturity of the rest of the young guys. This team has a legit shot to contend this year and next

That Edmonton trade is embarrassing. There is a reason Puljujarvi is not in the NHL. We don't want Chiasson. Koivu is washed up.
Why would you trade away Armia who has been quality and has potential to break out and does way more than Puljujarvi. I'd rather have Evans than Koivu. Chiasson is not worth anything if he leaves Edmonton.

Actually looking for input
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsRealGM</b></div><div>Will not happen in my opinion. Laine and Mantha are ideal targets. Won't get them for Domi, Mete and 1st.
Could sign Hoffman or Dadonov but those will be expensive contracts for aging players and will seriously hurt our ability to sign, Danault, Gallagher, Petry and maybe Tatar, plus the RFAs (Kk, armia).
I like Domi for Anderson (CBJ) straight up or with some sort of compensation pick included. Domi has potential and will likely breakout on the right team but he won't be worth it for MTL to keep him. He also doesn't have as much value as we think right now. Also prefer to keep Mete and the 1st pick and wait for one of those RD defenceman to push Mete out. I think we have a shot next year to make a deep run in the playoffs with current roster. Drouin, KK, Suzuki all get better. Edmunson and Romanov solidify 3LD. Mete plays 3RD with 3 prospects pushing him. That's incredible depth. We need a second line RW who can replace domi production. A legit sniper would be nice but is far to expensive and will cost much more than domi Mete and a 1st. Anderson has size, speed and can score 20 to 30 goals. Great addition, conservative and is value for Domi IMO. I'm also not a big Domi fan. Too inconsistent. Always left wanting more.</div></div>

As nice as Mantha would be, it's too much to give. It would no doubt take something like that. A cheaper solution is out there indeed. Bergevin will find it.

TB trade is no good either. Losing a first and taking on all that contract. No way. Not worth it.

Like the Mantha trade. Been wondering what it would take to get him. Have a feeling Detroit fans still say no. Be Inretesting to see any comments here. Would not do the CGY trade. Danault and Gallagher have too much value. Suzuki and Kk are that much better playing behind Danault one more year as well. If we have any chance of a deep playoff run next year, we need Danault and Gallagher.

Ya you re not wrong... I actually really like Kulak. I want to like to Domi but he just doesn't bring it every game. Potential is there but we got 3 C s way ahead of him. How do you upgrade on Kulak and trade Domi for a scoring RW, of equal or greater value than Domi. Laine and or Mantha would be my targets but it's gonna cost too much.

Maybe.. Potential is there for Murray to have greater upside than Kulak, short and long term and can play with Weber. Domi is better tha Anderson but doesn't fit in Montreal. Anderson has enough upside and potential to make up for Domi loss. Murray > Kulak, Anderson < Domi. Balances out IMO
