yeah, the flyers (and anyone else) aren't giving you a 14th round pick for Carter

I would certainly accept that offer as the Anaheim GM, but I doubt that Jeff Carter would.

2016 Replay
I like the thought process, but I don't think it's much of a solution.
Gurianov and Kapanen have essentially been in the same situation for a couple seasons now. I'd rather pay out on a guy who's more proven than hoping a change of scenery works.
Our defense is absolutely an issue, every other team that gives up as many shots as we do is in the Bedard race. A 37 year old Alex Goligoski who's been Minnesota's 7th defenseman isn't going to solve that.
As far as defensive play goes, Max Domi isn't ideal either, but he is at least an upgrade offensively.
Stalock's been surprisingly good this season, but I'm also not sure if he's really going to make much of a difference.
On paper, at least, I don't think this team is much better than what we're doing right now.

No thank you to the MTL trade. If I’m gonna use 5.5 million in cap for a sub .5 ppg player, I’d rather just keep Zucker, the first, and get out of the contract 4 years sooner

MTL total cap hit from this trade is $10,025,175 for 7 years
PIT total cap hit from this trade is $ 10,375,000 for 9 years
PIT adds more cap and term while getting older and way worse, but at least they get a 3rd pick. Yep this is a nightmare for the Penguins.</div></div>
yeah idk why this is a discussion, it certainly was a nightmare for me

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Reff</b></div><div>Hughes likes Anderson and already said that if he was traded, it would be for an offer he can't refuse, meaning a big return.
Guentzel straight up for Anderson is interesting considering the contract length, but the immediate adding of 1M on our cap makes it hard to do. I think Hughes thinks hard about it tough.</div></div>
PPG in the past 3 years:
Guentzel:
2021-22: 1.11
2020-21: 1.02
2019-20: 1.10
Anderson
2021-22: 0.46
2020-21: 0.46
2019-20: 0.15
Maybe Pittsburgh accepts if you throw in the whole province of Quebec

23-24 MacKinnon
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>you are still making the trades to sign lesser value players, that is clearing the cap off the books to make other moves. That is still clearing 10m off the books in trades, that is the point, you need teams who actively want those cap hits so you can go around and sign a collection of lesser players.
Dont make the 10m off the books clearing moves and try to fit mackinnon.
You cant do that and fill out the roster? Funny, looks like you need to clear 10m off the books to sign a guy like Mack and still fill out the roster</div></div>
But the trade doesn't have to happen - and he signed an even more expensive defenseman. He only cleared 1.5mil. The ANA trade doesn't even need to happen - so no they don't need teams who want those cap hits and don't need to clear 10mil in cap space. I dont know why this is so difficult for you to understand.
I already showed you that they don't need to take 10mil off the books and can fit MacKinnon. It was literally my first comment to you. So stop being condescending and saying I can't do things when I've already done it. Funny, looks like you can't read.

How is term the most important? They have 3 more years of Sid and then it's a rough looking rebuild. Term is irrelevant. Getting Letang at 6mil is a huge W.

Detroit declines. We don't need middle six wingers; we need a top six center and Zucker isn't it. We'll take Pettersson though.

(ANA/PIT) - Rakell for Aston-Reese, Simon, Clang, 2nd RD pick
VERY GOOD Trade by Pittsburgh and Ron Hextall. Penguins trade away a 750K league minimum guy (age 27) and a $1,725,000 Guy (age 27) who both shoot at the Goalies Chest since day one for a 28 year Old Guy who has scored 339 TOTAL NHL Points of which 154 are Goals of which we need more of. The Second Round pick is a guarantee for a guy like Rakell and Throwing in Goalie Prospect Clang when we don't need him is no big deal at all. THE BEST part is that 35% of RR's Salary is being retained by Anaheim. We NEEDED a TOP 6 Forward who can score and we got one. Some might comment that his points have gone down over the last two season but since he's been on such bad team that can be expected. WE (THE PENGUINS) have just added a player who can absolutely finish and put pucks in the goal and NOT the goalies chest. Sure ZAR is good on the defensive side of the puck but that's because he usually plays on the defensive side of the puck but with some NEW R&R we have finish and speed and legs to ADD to our lineup which is already super strong. Let's Go Pens!!! Nice work management and getting rid of the TWO players that my best friend and I have been begging you to get off our roster. AWESOME!

I've heard it's ZAR, Simon, a 2nd, AND a prospect.. still waiting to hear who that is, but I wouldn't call it an outright win just yet. As a Ducks fan, I'm trying not to consider it an L just yet, haha

I think that is a little under what Letang will get. But maybe the term entices him to give a slight discount.
