McDavid Avs Side
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyGuy09</b></div><div>Could definitely make that adjustment - 4th Overall and add in Lucic, which would mean that the Hayes signing would not really be necessary and then having them as 1C and 2C....with enough cap space still to go after a top 6 W through trade or UFA</div></div>
Exactly what i was thinking, you got your top 2 centers, leave hayes alone in free agency and take 17 mill and go after panarin/skinner and another top 6 winger. I don't think any teams have defence to stop Mcdavid and Mack one after another.

Obviously this is never going to happen but if they did they should split up mack and mcjesus. Could you imagine them as a 1,2 center combo? Absolutely disgusting.

Probably have to make it the 4th overall pick and take on Lucic.

Using Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyGuy09</b></div><div>Kapanen could end up in the $3-4 range coming off ELC, but he had 40 pts in one full NHL season (spending plenty of time with Matthews or Kadri), so a shorter term deal at $3 makes sense (to me anyway). If Kapanen was $3 or more and Johnsson could/should ask for around the same, then how is Marner fitting in with what he is looking for? Getting rid of Marleau and one of those two (or a Kadri/Brown) is only way to create space for Marner and Kapanen/Johnsson....no way they can keep everyone.
Ferland might be a bit low, but his current cap hit is $1.75 and he put up back to back 40 pt seasons playing on lines with Gaudreau and/or Monahan and then with Aho and/or Teravainen a lot of the time. I think he'd say yes to doubling his salary to play on another contending team (could bump to $4 if need be) - Matt Beleskey should be a cautionary tale of over paying a power forward that put up pts because of his linemates...but I think Ferland brings more than Beleskey before BOS signed him and then bought him out.
You're probably right on Karlsson, but his current hit is $5.25 so slight bump up, but basically the same hit and locked in long term (5 yr). Bumping it up to $6 would be fine as that is probably the range ($6-6.5) Avs would have been/are looking at offering Hayes (assuming he doesn't sign in PHI)</div></div>
I don't think any of your reasoning is wrong right here. I agree with nearly everything you say - but free agency is a wild animal. Someone is going to regret spending a lot on Ferland. And Karlsson will be at least $6.5 I think, otherwise I think Vegas would try to keep him. And for Kapanen, I agree he's really worth around $2.6-3.5 right now, but could see him making higher demands. Basically I just think it will cost an extra $2-4 to sign those 3 players.

Fla trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JeffW</b></div><div>That lineup looks pretty stacked, calvert is a great 3rd line winger, compher is an interchangeable 3rd to 2nd line winger, plus they have kaut he turns it on... makar came in and was great in the playoffs, if timmins is healthy he would come in and have a similar impact if he plays to his potential, also graves was a good fill in</div></div>
My top 6 would be in this roster:
Huberdeau Mack Rants
Landy Jost Skinner
I still really believe in Jost, and when he played with Landy on a line, they were really impressive. Add in another guy like Skinner and oh boy

Fla trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jack_</b></div><div>I think skinner would want more then that. I dont think he would deserve much more but you have the cap space to offer him 1-2 million more.
I also think another guy on d and a 3rd line winger would make the team so much better</div></div>
Avs D is still really good, they dont need another Dman in UFA, even after moving on from Barrie in this trade. All it would do would block TImmins/Meloche from making NHL roster, especially if they draft Byram. This sets up their expansion draft and roster progression turn over really nicely. The lines are messed up but Martin Kaut would be a 3rd line RW in this case, hes so good defensively already to go with his offensive ability, hes ready for prime time next year
Lines probably would be in this case
Huberdeau Mack Rants
Landy Jost Skinner
Compher Soderberg Kaut
Nieto Kam Calvert
Girard Makar
Cole EJ
Zads Timmins/Meloche

Avs 19-20
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyGuy09</b></div><div>Yeah, general consensus is they'll pursue Panarin but may not get an audience (much like Tavares), but they will try for sure. I wasn't sure on Bowers' situation, but maybe they bring back Bourque on a minimum contract or Brassard for like $1 million on a 1/2 yr deal. Just need someone on cheap deal for either 3rd/4th line W, whether they bring back one of those vets or finally give Greer a real shot</div></div>
Kamenev is their 4C locked in next year. I dont see Bourque and Brassard coming back. If they were going to bring any forward back on a cheap 1/2 year deal it would be Wilson but thats not as impactful to the bottom 6 (even though I like him but not to many Avs fans do)
