When Valimaki is healthy
Maybe. I don't think so.
Gallagher has been a point per game player. Brodie is expendable, Czarnik was a free asset who has done nothing, Zavgorodny was a 7th round pick who may never play in the NHL, 1st rd pick should (hopefully) be a late one.
Andersen is better than Jankowski and fills a middle-six, right shot, right wing need. He also had 27 goals last year and we are desperate for scoring outside of our top line and Tkachuk. Not sold on Pelletier being anything special.

Burn them All
Not sure I agree it would be an overpayment even with an extension. He's being crowded out on the Flames D-corps. Jankowski will probably be stuck on the fourth line this year in CGY but could have more opportunity in ANA.
Also not sure the division rival thing holds as much water as it used to. Pretty much everyone Calgary picked up this off-season has been an ex-Oiler!

Who needs to draft anyways
Dillon Dube is a former World Juniors captain who made the NHL out of camp as an 19 year old and then was over a point per game in the AHL. Don't think I'll take your word and your zero years of scouting experience in telling me how good of a prospect he is.
Hamonic iis a fantastic defenseman who would rather break every bone in his face than be on the ice for a goal against. He would obviously be happy to extend in Winnipeg and they now have a hole on right-side D.
We're talking about an organization that just gave up Trouba for a 3rd pairing D-man and their own late first round pick. I get that you are a Jets fan and don't want to see him go, and he probably won't, but if you think this trade is less fair than the Trouba deal you are out to lunch my friend.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>You aren't give much to Jets and Wild for two good wingers on multi year contracts.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smokingun71</b></div><div>If only it was that easy.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arafay</b></div><div>Jets pass. That one isn't even fair value for ehlers and it will take an overpayment for the jets to move him. Meier will get more on a deal from the sharks so Meier doesn't even sign that. Even if he does Sharks match</div></div>
The Ehlers trade is obviously never going to happen and is admittedly light but is a fun proposal for a Flames fan given recent news that he is apparently (possibly) available, Winnipeg needs to shed salary, Flames are looking to trade D, and Hamonic is from Winnipeg.
The Deal for Zucker is the exact trade that it was reported almost happened at the trade deadline. Hard to say it's not fair.
Evolving Wild has Timo Mier's contract estimate at about $5.8 million, and Sharks don't have much room to match with Karlsson at 11.5 and still needing to sign half their forward group. Tough to say this one is ridiculous either.

Flames Deadline for Cup run
Agree he's a huge upgrade on Smith. Not sure he's more than a marginal upgrade on Rittich--so not worth giving up assets for him, especially when he'd only be a 3 month rental and might not make a difference. Howard isn't an option you go after to be an upgrade on back-up. If you bring in Howard, you're bringing him in to play. Think you only bring in someone to take over the #1 if Rittich completely falls apart. If that happens, also think you look to other options with bigger upside and that might have longer term than Howard. Just my thoughts on how they SHOULD be approaching it though--this is the same organization that thought giving a 34 year old Mike Smith a 3 year, 4.5 mil contract was a good idea.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonesryan</b></div><div>Detroit is gonna get more than that. Your basically just upgrading Calgary's goalie and forward and giving them picks. Detroit ha son need for Smith and probably wouldn't be interested in Lazar. Howard gets a 1st and a prospect by himself easily. Nyqvist probably gets a better prospect than Lazar by himself too</div></div>
--> Detroit would need to take Smith back because (a) they need someone to play the rest of the year, and (b) Calgary would need to get rid of the salary. Smith is a UFA after the year so Detroit wouldn't need to keep him
--> Lazar has some value, although not a lot, and on a weak detroit team probably cracks their 4th line
--> any GM who gives up a 1st and a prospect for Jimmy Howard is an idiot and wholly incompetent. The reported asking price for him is a first, and no one is going to do that. Most likely scenario he stays put , re-signs and rides out the rest of his career as a Wing. Nyquist is where the value is in this trade.
From the Flames perspective, no benefit in giving up this much for Howard. He's worse than Rittich. Give up a 2nd and a prospect for Nyquist, sure, but don't see the Wings going for that. If you're going to take a swing, may as well go for the difference makers and go all in. These two players won't really move the needle IMO.
