If we're picking up a center in free agency I'd rather look at Stephenson. I think Lindholm is getting overhyped enough that he'd end up costing a lot more and wouldn't be worth it.
Also, putting Voronkov on the fourth line is a crime against nature given how well he's played.

Calgary Moves Up
Jackets need quality over quantity at this point. They can’t find playing time for all of their prospects as it is. Would much rather have lindstrom, levshunov, or demidov than 3 decent prospects. Calgary is in the start of a long rebuild so they would probably prefer to keep their quantity

Dillon is my number one FA target.
Florida probably declines.
Anaheim definitely declines. They need Gudas for the same reason.

Post-lottery off-season prediction
I'm gonna give a little counter offer for the wings trade. Husso 50% retained and a 4th for Merzlikins 50% retained and a 3rd. Wings get a project with Merlikins who can help ease Cossa's transition to the NHL and Columbus gets a goalie back for this year and then rid themselves of bad goalie contracts after this season. Wings get the higher pick because Merlikins is a longer comittment.

Got a little carried away making cap space
"I shipped Gudbranson because I think he blocks Jiricek." -> I disagree, Gudbranson is the clear 3RD, and Jiricek needs to play in the top-4. If he's not ready, he plays on the top pair in Cleveland until he can slot into the 2RD spot. He, Severson, and Gudbranson should be fine for the time being.
"But both of Bean, Boqvist seem like misses and I would be realllllly curious about overpaying for a really solid D like a Pesce." -> Pesce would block Jiricek, but I wouldn't necessarily mind that. The major problem is this team isn't a Pesce away from competing. There's a lot of growth that has to come from all the young kids before we're ready.
I'd be fine with moving Laine, but it really feels like we should pick either Levshunov (long-term 1RD or 2RD, with Jiricek the other, Severson on the 3rd pair) or Lindsrom (long term 2C or 3C with Sillinger the other, Fantilli on the top line), whoever is available at 4. Werenski and Mateychuk should hold down the left side for a while.

New GM making moves
Timmnins for Gudbranson retained is a terrible idea for the Jackets; that's the opposite of the direction our defense needs to be going in, and we'd end up with net negative "cap savings" as a result of re-filling the hole we just opened back up.

Would need a hell of a center between them, and Columbus doesn't have that yet. Marner's one of the best defensive forwards in the league, Gaudreau's one of the best playmakers. If they're to be on a line together, you'd need a shoot-first center between them who can keep up and also win a board battle. That's a unicorn.

Yes, I know they got that one thing right that one time. Throw enough **** at the wall, something sticks eventually.
All of which to say, easy CBJ pass. No desire to trade an asset we don’t need to trade, at his lowest value, with retention of all things added.

Very Promising Team with New Coach and GM
I still think they'll be able to move Elvis without retaining, but they certainly won't get anything in return. He managed to be an average goalie behind a ****-show this season, so there's a serviceable goalie in there and other GMs know this. But this return is silly. Elvis unretained for future considerations is perfectly sufficient for me.
Columbus declines the second trade. No reason to move Laine for peanuts now.

The Boqvist trade is plausible. The Laine trade is not, and neither is letting Texier and Nylander walk for nothing. In particular, I'd take retaining Texier over signing Vrana 11 times out of 10.

Could the Jackets trade Gaudreau
To summarize more quickly than @squashmaple, whose reply is comprehensive: no, absolutely not.
Even if Columbus had an appetite to move him, you'd have to convince JG to waive a full NMC which he took presumably to have stability, which is going to be a no.
Shipping out the biggest UFA the franchise has ever landed 2 years in with 5 years remaining because "oh boo hoo bad team in a retool is bad" is such a bad look/loser mentality. We're probably no more than 2 years away from actually competing if we just hold and play our cards right.
He's happy. He's fine. He'll still be a significant part of the team in a couple years when the majority of the players on the roster actually have a fully-developed prefrontal cortex.

Thread:
Could the Jackets trade Gaudreau
I'll save everyone the effort of replying.
The Jersey fans will be extremely mean to you and derisive. Nicknames like "littke Johnny" will be used. Not quite Canes fans reacting to any trade where they tell you they wouldn't touch that player you're proposing sending to them with someone else's 100-ft pole, but pretty close. Gaudreau might be worth another team's fourth rounder to them. Maybe. But even then, he doesn't make sense because they already have one tiny floating playmaker in their top six, and theirs plays center and is a better skater.
Philly fans will probably be happy to unload Atkinson, whom they hate, and Johansen, whom they don't need. They will be big mad about trading a first, though, even if it's not their own and could well be 32nd overall. They're also very obviously rebuilding and it was only by the grace of Torts and Sean Walker that they didn't finish behind Columbus in the standings. They managed to let Jackets defensemen score six goals on them near the end of the season. They're in an even worse spot than Columbus with regard to being truly competitive any time soon.
Both of those groups will point to the most surface level possible stats to say that Gaudreau is a useless waste of space who's totally washed and headed for the retirement home (which is what a garbage heap like Columbus is anyway, being a barren wasteland at every level with no prospect pool or picks or talent anywhere to speak of).
Columbus fans will say there's no way in hell either Atkinson or Johansen would be welcomed back without sweeteners, and especially not for Gaudreau. They will rightly point out that he was still a top-100 5v5 player in the league despite having literally no one to play with. A playmaker without a finisher is just a guy stranded on the ice. And that's not even mentioning the fact Columbus only has the second-worst power play in the league because John Tortorella coaches somewhere else, which means every single Jackets player's point totals are supressed because they're not getting anything on the PP. As with any discussion of trading Laine because money, there's no pressure on Columbus's cap. They don't need to make a move just to make a move. Gaudreau is still the best player on the team (except maybe Werenski, who somehow managed to finish the year with 57 points an even +/- as a defenseman on a bottom-four team with no PP and a collective -63).
No deal for any of the teams involved.

Very Nasty if they get Cayden Lindstrom

The Ducks need an RHD, so they'll take Levshunov or Yakemchuk. Chicago and San Jose need everything but will likely be top three. Arizona is more likely to go defense but not necessarily. If Montreal (or anyone else really) wins a lottery spot, they'll take Celebrini or Demidov. If not, they're after us. Unless the injury concerns are legit, Lindstrom seems like the obvious Columbus pick both in terms of draft slot and need.

The "there's always next year" of prospect watching. That's even more of a loser mindset than Cleveland sports fans lamenting two games into a season--at least Browns fans are talking about the playoffs.

Not a CBJ Fan Just Curious
I like where you are going with the aggressiveness - I’ve long been upset at the number of times Jarmo did his “weaponize the cap,” schpiel, only to, well, not.
My hold up is the Kampf trade and the retention - I get the balance of cap with trading for him and retaining on Elvis, but doing that and then trading for Campbell feels redundant, and that’s before getting to also retaining on Grubauer (I.e. we just turned one $5.4M cap hit into three for a total of $10.6M). I’ve danced on this before, but I think an Elvis for Campbell 1-for-1 could work. The alternative is Elvis just gets bought out, which is a cap hit CBJ can take right now.
Laine does need to be moved, and as much as I feel he would kick ass in VGK, I don’t see CBJ being on Bill’s OK list for his NTC.
I actually think CBJ’s C depth is at the best it’s been in a long time. Fantilli-Sillinger-Voronkov-Kuraly is looking like it could be real, and that’s before CBJ likely end up with a Lindstrom or Cattan (or Celebrini?) after this draft.
As for Dillon? CBJ already have Guds as their obligatory “big-bodied D” signing. Voronkov is also built like semi-truck, and will learn to throw the body more as he gets experience. Mateychuk almost made the team out of camp this year, and he’ll likely slot in next season.

Well
To acquire Laine, you need to come up with a package that is commesurate with acquiring a top line scoring winger. Whether or not you think he currently is that is irrelevant; that's what he's valued at in Columbus, and there's no motivation to move him for less at this time. The team is much better off hoping for a bounceback from his recent troubles.
