Remember when everyone said JT Miller's career was over, a negative asset, can't trade that awful contract even with 50% and a first last year? Fans are too caught up in the "what have you done for me lately" mindset. Not saying Johnny is going to get traded but thankfully most GM's look at the full picture, not just look at the score sheet and go "oh only 60 points he sucks". When you actually look into it all his points came from primary assists with hardly no goals nor secondary assists. It doesn't take a genius to realize he's getting smothered when he's out on the ice because the other teams treats him as the only true threat. Its similar to early in Lebron's career he had no assistance in Cleveland and basically the entire strategy was triple guard Lebron and take him out of the game. That's why a healthy Laine, or another viable winger, would make him look like peak JG again as its quite impressive he was able to be a ppg player since the start of the year even when basically playing the equivalent of hard mode this year.

Would Ottawa do it
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>For context, this is if the new GM decides to do a rebuild. But Sens fans, what would you give up realistically for Marchenko?</div></div>
Honestly...flipping the board is highly doubtful. Columbus survives by the gate and I am sure ownership group would rather have a competitive, even if its not cup worthy team, than waste another 3-4 years rebuilding off a rebuild similar to what Buffalo just did (and likewise getting killed by the gate). STH retention is being saved by outdoor game this year but during the 25-26 season if we don't start winning there might be a drop off of that all important full price STH cash. No...if anything they will press to have a competent team in the next year or two that would sneak into a wildcard than go through what Buffalo has been doing.
Likewise though I don't see a new GM flipping the board because (how I see it) we hold 4 of the 5 "keys" to win the cup (we are missing that strong 2C which is why if we get Celebrini that's gonna be MASSIVE). The issue really is we have some redundancy in player roles and we just need to let the kids cook. People forget that most players who can immediately impact the NFL are 22-23 years old when they are drafted...here most of our premium players can't even drink (and have many calling them a bust because they are boys against men)

Not a CBJ Fan Just Curious
Good Job! Dillon is on my short list too this summer as the "aging dman to hold the fort down" for 2-3 years while the kids cook in Cleveland! Alos Boqvist going to seattle is a PERFECT SPOT for him and it seems like our franchises really like to play nice with each other from an outsider's pov. I really think if Boqvist gets moved its to Seattle as its a perfect landing spot for him and what they need. I think someone is gonna take an Elvis contract as I look around the league how the Flyers, Jersey, ect failed to make the playoffs due to goalie issues and while their are many UFAs this summer Elvis is a potential "fast pass" goalie to beat the market because he has shown he can play well. Personally I would like to see him go to the Flyers because he did well under Torts and maybe a strong personality needs a stronger one to keep them in check!

Laine and Lightning
Hockey fans are weird. When did going through concussion recovery because of an after regulation time cheap shot, a broken clavicle and now in the player assistance program (which requires league intervention) is being a "lazy quitter". If you don't like the guy that's one thing but look at his injury history before you start attacking someone. Most of these are not soft tissue injuries which are preventable.

Well
I don’t know why people think we are in a cap crunch? If anything our cap looks ok right now as we are building from the inside with the draft instead of buying vets. It’s more value to Columbus for him to fine his game than trade him for scraps at this point.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Viqsi</b></div><div>To acquire Laine, you need to come up with a package that is commesurate with acquiring a top line scoring winger. Whether or not you think he currently is that is irrelevant; that's what he's valued at in Columbus, and there's no motivation to move him for less at this time. The team is much better off hoping for a bounceback from his recent troubles.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>Cool your jets, Skippy, I didnt say **** about him only being worth a second.
Secondly, you don't know what Columbus would trade him for at this point. He's a remnant of the past regime who has been a bounce back candidate for four years, as a result his value has been slipping for four years, and he hasn't been as advertised in Columbus. He's got two seasons left on a nearly 9 million dollar cap hit, there's going to be next to no appetite league wide due to the risks that acquiring him carries. Yeah, he's PPG when he's on the ice, but staying on the ice is a problem, there's a reason the saying "the greatest ability is availability"
If I were Anaheim, I'd offer the Edmonton first and Strome as I would need to free up a RW spot to bring Laine in, and Strometrooper might help to right the culture issues that CBJ is having.</div></div>
I agree Laine is a possible landing spot for him if he would be moved the problem is Strome is aging out and has 3 years remaining when the goal is to move out some of these wingers. Plus Strome isn't the type of winger we need right now. Finally the "culture" issue is gone from the FO, the issues you been hearing about have been from the FO and nothing has came out from issues in the locker room outside maybe Elvis being a diva and that's probably the first order of business for a new GM. The idea for a laine trade is there but the piece isn't right. I doubt Silfverberg will be resigned so taking Laine, probably some retention, would work on a Zegras McTavish line and that's probably worth the oiler's 1st round pick assuming they go deep. Give you a sniper your team needs and when he's healthy hes a PPG producer. People might freak out saying LAINE FOR A FIRST? HES ONLY WORTH A BAG OF PUCKS but then again everyone said the same thing about JT Miller last year.

Also in what world would Columbus give up a U24 with RFA rights for someone they waited 4 years for...2 2nd round picks? Can you present a similar player at a similar deal with RFA rights? Really this deal is gonna cost you a 1st and a A tier prospect minimum plus your going to have to sign him a 4x4.

Hedgers Perfect Summer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SK101</b></div><div>I don’t think there will be many changes next year other than jiricek, mateychuk, and svozil fighting for roster spots. I could potentially see laine, Kent Johnson, and provorov traded in the off-season although laine and Kent’s value are very low at this point. They probably need to find another top 6 center. If they draft lindstrom they might just wait to see who takes that spot in the future between Voronkov, sillinger, or lindstrom. Will be interesting to see who they draft this year. Wouldn’t mind levshunov, lindstrom, or eiserman.</div></div>
Personally assuming we draft 4-6 I am eyeing Lindstrom but there's a very real threat to that idea. You would have to assume the following:
Chicago: Takes best player available
Sharks: Goes for the best Dman available (they spent so much capital on forwards lately they really need a bluechip D-man to develop now as they are heading into a long rebuild
Ducks: They badly need a sniper and their FO loves their beefy guys. They already have a deep defensive prospect pool
Lindstrom feels like a player that the Ducks will run up to the podium and take without a second thought. Based on this i feel like Levshunov and Lindstrom are gonna be gone by the time we get there.
After this week I am pretty confident we are gonna get that 4 slot until the league "randomly lucks" Arizona into a 1st overall slot (especially as they do need another premium center in their prospect pool) and somehow a Canadian team ends up with the #2 pick (even if pittsburgh enters the top 10 it be dumb to give them the first overall right now...you got to make sure they have those #1 picks for 25/26 ready because you can't have a O6 team have a long rebuild right?) /s

I really, honestly, see Elvis being moved 100% truthfully. If we hold up 50% and a B-tier prospect someone in this league will GLADLY bite at that for a backup/1B player at around 2.7-3 mil

Offseason RFAs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>squashmaple</b></div><div>The same offseason that better players than Bjorkstrand were literally traded for nothing or had high picks attached to them, because no one had any cap? Pacioretty and Burns, for example. When Gaudreau fell in their lap, they had to make a decision. The very few teams that had cap space could<em> and did</em> ask for the moon. You normally have good takes. I’m not sure why you think a 2.3 million dollar defenseman former first round pick acquired for a second the previous summer would even be a consideration to move at all, let alone that he was the obvious choice in summer 2022 to move in order to keep Bjorkstrand. And no, Gudbranson wasn’t the reason, either. He was already signed and announced by the time there was even a hint Gaudreau might be interested. It was Gaudreau or Bjorkstrand, and the team would be in the same position in the standings regardless of which wing was currently a Blue Jacket.</div></div>
The amount of times I seen people rewrite history on this was insane. The real decision came down to Bjorkstrand Vs Laine. They chose Laine. People always complained "why didn't they give up Nyquist" when at the time every 5 mil in cap was a 1st round pick (which would eventually become Fantilli). The reason we got something from Bjorkstrand was because he had value and Seattle was the only one willing to give us assets (probably them paying us back for the gentleman's agreement over their expansion draft). There were rumors it was going to COST a 3rd and 4th to unload Bjorkstrand because there was no cap.
Also to the people who complained about signing Gudbranson doesn't remember the 2021 Wild game where we got decimated by dirty play and the faces of horror we had after that game. Plus lets be honest here you really think Jarmo was not going to sign a Dman that summer? It still would had cost 2-3 mil for an experience Dman even if he was a 3rd liner that summer.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BruceBanner</b></div><div>I don't think adding stammers makes them a better team. I honestly don't know what this team needs. Where do you break it apart?</div></div>
Its all in deployment and structure from coaching. The team is playing to how the coach wants to play his game and more development style than trying to make a system to play to the team's strenghts. For example Severson is badly effected by this. He's a great first pass dman but with the team's current breakout structure you can't take advantage of his ability to take advantage of his stretch passes he was known for in NJ (well really it was blown plays but it wasnt as bad as devils fans made it out to be).
There is talent on this team but the kids are not seasoned enough yet and not playing to the team's strengths. Its a team right now but not a "team". We need someone to come into here and make an identity for Columbus to play its game like Florida did lately. People meme that "could be spooky in a season or two" but I really think Columbus has the potential to have a Canucks style turnaround soon but we just need someone to unlock that potential.

TDL moves to clear spot for Jiricek
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>I'd love that EDM trade, which means EDM says no. I don't know why they'd move Foegele unless they're also getting another top-6 forward and moving someone into his spot. I'd love him on Columbus' 3rd line, and would be fine if he signed a 4x$3.5M-4M extension.
Jack might go for a 2nd or 3rd at this point. The team really doesn't matter, but he's producing again on the top line (10 points in 10 games).
Toronto doesn't entertain moving Sammy, and Peeke the player (regardless of retention) isn't worth a 4th to them in all likelihood. If we want to make room for Jiricek, the obvious answer is just waive Peeke and hope someone claims him. If not: one defenseman up from Cleveland, one down to Cleveland.</div></div>
The only reason why I think they could move him is they have alot of similar players that follow that role on the team and he's not a "Critical" piece whereas they need more defensive help. Personally I been working on a 24-25 Blue Jacket team and I been eyeing a Foegele for the team as a 4x3.75 but I haven't published it due to how KJ/JG and the Russian crew fits together for a 3LW.
As for the trade I think something is there but I would love to have EDM come in and tear us apart for it.

Best Petey deal Id put on the table
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>It's a hell of a lot more than they'd get out of an offer sheet compensation. KJ and Sillinger have significant NHL experience already, the 1st is going to be top 5, Ceulemans is a developing probable bottom 4 RD, and Dumais has legitimate potential as a middle 6 winger. That's 5 players they could be adding to the roster within the span of Miller's contract. An offer sheet is firsts in 2025-28 so they wouldn't see the full effect of those picks until ~2031-32 unless they manage to find someone else willing to trade away their star center for a distant bunch of futures.</div></div>
Y'all wanna know why the offer sheet is 4 1st round picks? Because that's the price ownership across the entire league deems "that's just too damn much". Everyone can say they are gonna drop 4-5 S+ tier assets picks as fans but when the money is coming out of your pocket no sane owner is ever...ever...EVER going to drop that much assets for one player, even if its Mcdavid. Rick Nash was traded for 2 mid 6 Forwards and a first...and even then Columbus had to add to it. At best if we ever see a package for EP its at best going to be from our end 1st unprotected, KJ, Dumais and Cuelemens (which that is the equivalent of 2 1st round picks, a second round pick and a 3rd round pick with high upside which would be the most blockbuster trade since EK)...anything else McConnel would go "that just too damn much" and every other potential team would do the same thing with equivalent assets.
Plus EP agent should know, and probably does, there isn't that many places he can go with that paycheck he wants, which also reduces the "cost" of the trade. This is just Brisson playing Brisson's mind games ****ing with Vancouver's front office.

Johnson is a nice piece but I'm not convinced he's a star player in his future. Laine is such a massive question mark right now and with his mental health struggles I don't think he would be a good fit in a high pressure market like Vancouver. Boqvist I have 0 interest in.</div></div>
Yeah if I would offer it be KJ, Dumais, Provorov @ 50% (Or Svoliz) and unprotected 1st. If you want an RHD Cuelemans can be on the table though I think he's at best a 3rd RHD at this point, the ability is there but the headspace is a concern. The Laine thing is just probably cap reasons.

Then the 1st is off the table and the reason I say that is we haven't seen a massive blockbuster trade in like 6 years with more than 2+ high tier prospects/1sts moved for 1 person. What this package includes now is a former 5th and 6th round pick and even if you wanna include laine in that which is a 3rd and you are asking for a 1-4 pick being involved too? New Columbus GM would balk at that especially when our RHD prospect line is running thin. You are more likely to get a Russian forward than Jiricek at this point. I know people love to think X player is worth 4-5 firsts but until a massive blockbuster deal happens again involving that many S tier prospects/picks I don't think any GM is going to throw out that much in capital to aquire players no matter how good they are.

And if it happened in the off-season, you don’t even have to take cap back because Columbus has a ton of space, which other candidates can’t offer.
The best place for him is Vancouver. It’s basically a negative chance he (or his agent) would consider signing in Columbus, so this is very moot.</div></div>
Looking at both sides involved this is just theater and a giant game of chicken. EP very well could get that 11mil paycheck but Vancouver wants to keep a viable team. Right now vancouver is starting to look very 2016-2019 CBJ and we all know how that ended.
