Trying some stuff
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>Edmonton's paying out the nose for Brown; while I support other GMs punishing the Oilers for the mismanagement they've put them through, I can't see Edmonton paying more than a 3rd and a 5th for Brown, especially when a lot of other teams are offering what appears to be a 4th at most.
I also think Edmonton might have some interest in Zaitsev too, but they'd have to be mighty creative regarding the cap in order to pull it off.</div></div>
I would personally be happy with a 3rd and 5th for Brown if they decided to move him. Personally I’m a big fan of his and would like them to keep him but if he has to go to keep the big boys I’d take whatever they can get. Tying Zaitsev in with Edmonton as well would be good for both teams considering Edmonton would probably have to give less. I agree that shipping them 6M would be almost impossible for them to fit though.

How does Toronto pull this off
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Leafs haters think Matthews and Marner deserve paid as the second and third players in the league for some reason. I think your are figures pretty accurate. Liljegren likely isn't a Leaf next year. Only way I figure "it works" if a high priced forward (not Brown) such as Kadri or Nylander are traded for cap. Leafs upgrade with one or two Dmen if only for short term. Grundstrom and Moore both LWer look to be NHLers next season. Realistic lineup, fine job.</div></div>
Liljegren will most likely be a Leaf next year, Dubas has said that the plan was to have him up by the end of this year before he got injured. But I definitely don't see him starting that high in the lineup, more likely situation is him dropping to that third pair to start and everyone else shifting up.

Three way trade for Parayko
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chopper02</b></div><div>If it's a low first a team will be willing to pull the trigger. That being said, I don't think Pittsburgh will be the team to do it since they have no solid prospects outside of Hallinder, but a team who hasn't won needing more offense from the left side (Winnipeg) might be willing to pull the trigger since they have defensive stalwarts on the right side.</div></div>
I actually considered Winnipeg too, glad I wasn’t the only one.

I think the only way this happens is without the Staal/Kadri swap. Definitely can’t see Carolina retaining. Otherwise, I like it.

I definitely disagree here. I think Pittsburgh is the perfect place for him, especially for a playoff run. There’s enough other responsibility and D-Zone help there to help cover up the Bad-Jake moments.

For what it’s worth, I was never saying that Pesce was better/worse than Zaitsev.
I just think Pesce fits better with a player like Rielly, IN MY OPINION, and the 500K savings helps when Dubas will be counting pennies.

I agree, but they wouldn't need to trade for either of those guys as of right now so could they could still get something else (even picks) for Zaitsev just to shave his cap hit.

Big fan of the Thornton + Braun move but can't see the Leafs or Nashville wanting to swap Brown for Fiala as both teams want to go deep.

For my dad
Like most of the predictions. Don't see them naming a captain at any point this season, I think it's possible Leivo stays and walks at the end of the year because the Leafs have no reason to give up depth at the deadline. And I seriously hope Sparks plays more than 16 games to give Freddy a break.
I also think it's much more likely Borgman and/or Rosen are with the Leafs at the start of the season instead of Sandin. Lilegren probably makes it out of camp over one of Oz or Hall. I see the D breaking down like this:
Rielly - Zaitsev
Dermott - Liljegren
Borgman/Rosen - Oz/Holl
Definitely possible that they start with 8 D again, like this year.

MAPLE LEAFS 2018-19
I like the Gardiner/Myers trade but I'd like to see the leafs try a Gardiner/Rielly top pairing for a bit first to see if that works out.
Disagree with trading C's though as I think Dubas really likes him (hence the raise and contract extension).

Experienced RD would most likely cost a LOT more given the current market though.

Wow, there's a lot of very salty people here. I agree with what people are saying that the buds aren't going to trade their goaltending depth away just for picks, maybe as part of a package but only if really necessary. Also no reason to trade Horton's contract, the LTIR relief exists and the Leafs have more than enough money to pay him out.

Not sure where they're over the cap. This team has the cap for 19/20 at 81.5M, personally, I think that's conservative meaning there's even more room if some players command more.

No point in giving up Matt Martin and losing a good prospect and pick if they aren't crunched for cap.
On the off chance Nashville does give up a D-Man, last thing the leafs need is another left shot D.

Not a fan of bringing Polak back, would rather keep Gardiner and leave Hainsey on the right, personally.

If getting the rights to JT wouldn't he want 8 years?

I'll be honest, I didn't know what Carolina was asking for. That's a really high ask though I don't think there's any way they get that unless someone is super desperate at the trade deadline. But with Engvall, Lievo and Pickard they're getting a good prospect and two solid NHLers.
With all the **** going on with Karlsson and in Ottawa in general right now, I can't see teams offering much more than 2 firsts.

It's a LOT of money at center. Hopefully, if Nylander is the 3C they don't need Riley. Also can see Kapanen taking a shorter deal with a little more $ and then cashing out after the '19-'20 season.

Would definitely be competitive but can't see Lou losing that many picks, especially after just leaving T.O. where the Draft&Develop mentality was what turned the franchise around.
