<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bagelbob</b></div><div>the habs are 31st in the waiver order, right? i have to think he gets claimed before that</div></div>
Does the waiver order go by standings in the regular season or by the order that the teams finished in the playoffs?
If it’s by playoff standings then I think he’ll be picked up long before it gets to Montreal

I think that this is exactly what Jimmy Vesey is worth as a player at this point. His point production in the New York Rangers is dead and buried.

Brooks on waivers
There are actually a lot of good players on this round of waivers: Hamonic, Barre-Boulet, Leivo, Baertschi, Carrick and others. I think given the players on this group, Brooks might manage to squeak through and I’m hoping he does.

Tear Down on Big 2 Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingLundqvist30</b></div><div>So let’s see, in this trade you’re getting one of the leagues top goalies (top 10-12), a top four defenseman, someone with 2C potential, and a top pairing defenseman (who might I add was a huge part in Fox’s Norris win). No way the Rangers accept that. Sure Marner is an elite playmaker, but not worth it for that.</div></div>
… if neither team thinks the deal is good then why do it?

Tear Down on Big 2 Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingLundqvist30</b></div><div>Wait are you saying that the Marner trade is a huge underpay for Marner?</div></div>
To win hockey games, you need people that can produce goals and Marner is an expert in setting people up.
What we’re getting in this trade doesn’t replace the production he was giving.
It works if you don’t care about the Leafs scoring after he’s gone but after the Marner trade this Leafs team is a less effective scoring team

Those trades for Marner and Matthews are just plain dumb. You’re giving away too much for way too little.
Regardless of what you think of the Big 4, Matthews is a player that is VERY hard to replace and Marner knows how to rack up points

Mikheyev Experiment
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Kerfoot has been fine at 3C...although he and line mates had hands of stone last season. But so many Leafs fans think Kerfoot is bad at centre but seem quite happy to put one goal last season Kampf at centre and Spezza who hasn't played centre much in years as a solution..</div></div>
I think the main reason we got Kampf was his defensive ability and I hear he's good at winning faceoffs in the defensive zone.
I agree with you about Kerfoot's linemates, they definitely didn't help.

Mikheyev Experiment
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>It does give the Leafs short term cap relief. But there isn't any reason to believe that Engvall, or Ritchie maybe even Bunting are "better" wingers. Plus doubt if Kerfoot stays at LW full time during the season.
Mikheyev may be traded for cap reasons, but he worth his contract.</div></div>
I think Engvall, Ritchie and Bunting have been great in the preseason but you're right that this can quickly change when the actual season starts.
For Kerfoot, he hasn't really been good in the center spot but I think he's a good keep for a worst case scenario if/when something happens to Matthews or Tavares and we need a viable 2C.

That's a great point but I didn't say it was a perfect experiment. We can always compare it to his preseason play but I don't think people are gonna be convinced with that.

That's a great point! I never realized how many first round picks in that draft class were disappointments.
The funny thing is that the Gauthier was picked before Andre Burakovsky, Shea Theodore and Ryan Hartman.

Kerfoot to Vegas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MatthewsFan</b></div><div>But Kerfoot isn’t a C. He is terrible at faceoff’s, cant drive a line, is ok defensively, but not a shutdown C. Sure, he looks good on the LW beside Nylander and Tavares, and if the Leafs play him in the top 6 at LW, fine. But he is wasted cap space in the bottom six.
If Kase gets injured then call up Robertson, or sign Ho-Sang and call him up.
I really liked playoff Kerfoot but that was for like 7 games. He is missed cast on this team and overpaid for what he brings. On a cap team, he is expendable.
But agree to disagree all good.</div></div>
It's definitely a debate that can be had, there ain't no animosity here.
If we take out Kerfoot and his cap hit and remove Engvall we could even potentially find something that can fix the problem.
In my opinion though, Kerfoot for just a bunch of picks just leaves us hoping for the good health of Matthews and Tavares.

Kerfoot to Vegas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MatthewsFan</b></div><div>You telling me a Nylander couldn’t play C? A top 4 of:
Ritchie Matthews Marner
Bunting Nylander Kase
That couldn’t work, please. Keeping Kerfoot and his 3.5 mil AAV just in case an injury happens is stupid. The fact is he has been here for 2 years and the Leafs still don’t know what he is, a C or LW. Even more so if they plan on using him on the 4th line.
The fact he hasn’t been able to solidify his role on this roster makes him expendable</div></div>
I'm with you in that Kerfoot is overpaid and he is expendable (I wanted McCann to stay in Toronto and Kerfoot to be taken) but he is what we have as a viable 3C that could do 2C minutes if called on.
Nylander can play center but we haven't seen how he does in that position.
Plus there is also question marks around Kase's health through an 82 game season given his injury history.
A Bunting-Nylander-Kase second line would be good in theory but we don't know if that works in practice.
In the playoffs we at least had a decent 2nd line with Kerfoot and Nylander playing together.
If we traded Kerfoot and got a less expensive center in return, now we're having a different conversation.
