Toronto Maple Leafs signed Auston Matthews (4 Years / $13,250,000 AAV)
Avs fans have got to be really pleased with the MacKinnon contract after seeing this.
Matt got Half the term and more money and he's an arguably worse player.

Just about the most pointless trade ever for Tampa.

Huh??? Maroon's entire contract can be buried in the minors. Now we actually get a cap penalty. And we lose an okay prospect too. And for absolutely nothing? What am I missing here? It's not like this was a huge loss but why is JBB just tossing $200k of cap space in the trash?

Might as well have tried burying Maroon in the minors instead of trading him with retention.
There is zero upside for Tampa in this trade.
Minnesota wins the trade.

Interesting that it's a 1 way deal, does that mean Montembeault is gone?

No. You’ve been here long enough, you should know 1 way deal or 2 way deals doesn’t affect waivers. He is waivers exempt for 2022-23, after that he will fight with Montembeault to be Allen’s back up in 2023-24. Whoever win the back up spot stays in the NHL, the other (probably Montembeault gets waived in Laval)

The February Squad
Well thought out.
I think that Colorado will protect only 4 forwards in order to keep Toews, and I think that the Islanders will protect Mayfield instead of Leddy. Otherwise, this is very well constructed.

(CBJ/DET/TBL) - Savard for Lashoff & picks for picks
It's not often that you see three teams win in the same deal
Tampa Bay:Overpaid for a 3rd pairing defender, but they are defending stanley cup champs and are better now than when they won.
Detroit: This is quite obvious, got a mid round pick for taking cap when they have boat loads.
Columbus: Got a very good pick and a decent pick for a 3rd pairing defender that was likely going to walk in FA
Bravo to all 3 GMs

I see why Toronto would do it. The question is why would Dell do it.

I'm sure it will be fine and all, but this seems like a lot for a goalie with only 33 games played no? I know he was quite good but I compare this to the Kuemper contract and he was putting up good to great numbers for awhile before getting his deal.

Yea, this just seems way too high for the term. Kane & Toews signed 5-year deals after their ELC's and CH% was 11.09.
If Cap is $83.5mm, Matthews comes in at 13.9%

7 years in the NHL until you become a UFA. Matthews played 3 years on ELC + 5 years on this deal. Dubas bought 1 year of UFA.

The money is fine but *unless im mistaken* this deal isn't too good for the leafs because this makes him a UFA as soon as his contract is up
