Yep. You see to understand it. I don’t get why others don’t
The leafs set this mess up and now they pay
Other teams don’t have to follow Toronto’s lead because so guy on cap friendly say so

Tampa has to make him sit or take less money than Marner.
They are not a rich team like the leafs and the fan base will not care as much
5.3 for 3 years is a joke but I do see him taking 7 to 8 max for 3 years
Just my opinion though

Fairly paid for Toronto because of what Mathews got .
Get with the program. Dubas overpayment to Mathews is why Marner got and deserves what he got
Tampa overpayment to nobody so they will not set themselves up like dubas did
Mitch was top scorer for the team and then expects to be paid Mathews type money
On Tampa he would get around 8 million for that contract
Plus remember I was right and you were wrong so let’s not start all this again lol

Players love arbitration. Teams don’t. Ask codi ceci if he would be getting 4.5 million if not for the threat of arbitration. Players always get more in arbitration
Example 3 years at 9.5 million. The 4th year arbitration will be about 11.5 to 12.5 million. Why sign for 4 years at 9.5 million?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>That is such an ignorant comment.
3 years + arbitration are you kidding me? He doesn't want to go to arbitration, no player does. He doesn't want to do another contract for 1 year to hit FA. That's like saying Matthews wanted 4 years instead of 5 because he'd do the last in arbitration. Use your brain! On top of it he had a great career year at this point. His leverage is through the roof. He doesn't care what the leafs want. It's not all about what the leafs want. The point was very clear, you have to GIVE to GET! Meaning if he takes less, he gets his ideal term. Which is 4 years. It's called negotiating. Try using your brain instead of believing some sports writer who lives in his mom's basement with his click bait website with imaginary sources.
You also miss the point on the 8 year contract. He doesn't want to come out of a contract at the tail end of his prime! No player in their right mind wants to do that. Hitting FA is the biggest payday they will ever get. They want to hit that in their prime years at 26-27 years old. Not 30 or 29. That's how you get the most money for the longest term. The odds someone is giving him a big money deal for 7 or 8 years at 30 is much lower than at 26 where they will pay him till he's 33 or 34. With the possibility of still landing another decent deal on the back end if he can still play.
On top of it, he'd miss the HUGE increase in salary cap that is coming with expansion and new TV deals. Why in the hell would any player knowingly do that. The simple answer is, they wouldn't.
You just over here trolling nonsense. There is a reason players want deals right to their FA hits. What Matthews signed has become the new expectation in the league.</div></div>
Like I said ...no clue
I am sure you don’t get it but once he signs for 3 or 6 or 7 years you will see but I am sure you will hide under you rock
3x9.5 6 or 7 11+. 4 years is not even on the table. Write it down and come back when you see reality

Also to say he doesn't want a 4 year deal is straight garbage. A 4 year deal takes him directly to FA. That is the F----ing ideal term for him. OK trolls?</div></div>
I don’t get what you’re saying? Who said anything about 8 years? He was offed 11 million for 8. They will give that for 7 in a minute.
4 years lol. Really? The leafs don’t want 4 years because of beckoning a free agent and Marner don’t want it because he can take 3 years and arbitration in the 4th year that will probably be worth a lot more

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>Lets just stop the Keller comparison. Keller's agent took them to the woodshed.
Marner isn't getting over 10.5. If he was he would have already signed that OS. But no one is going to give that so that's where that ends.
As far as the low end, I could be in the 9.5 range, but Toronto probably has to give up term to get there. As in 4 year deal. Give and take.</div></div>
Marner nor the leafs want 4 years. It’s 3 or 6 or 7 years that’s it. 3 at 9.5 or 6 and 7 at 11 million. Very simple. He turned down 8 at 11 million. So now he sign for less lol. Ok leafs fans

9.5 3 years 11 million 6 years. Everyone months ago was saying I was crazy . Worth 7 or 8 million max I was told.
Wait til it is done . He ain’t ever signing 8 years. Can’t do 5 . 3 or 6 or 7 . I think it’s 6 at 11 million myself but if leafs want a bridge 3 years 9.5 million
This is my opinion. Let’s all come back in a few weeks and see because he will be signing before the season starts

Clayton Keller just signed for over 7 million so I think that would make Mitch worth about 11 million. If leafs fans think he is signing anything under 10 million for 5 or 6 years they are delusional. I have see post here saying he is worth only 7 million max. Clayton Keller at over 7 millions proves how stupid these people really are
