Stars 23-24 Need Defense
I don't hate it, I'm just trying to figure out why VAN wants to trade a younger dman for Miller. They might since they have shown to be imcompetent at times. I also think Stanky does make the jump to the big club next season, but I think they'll leave Bourque in the AHL another season to ripen up properly. He shouldn't be needed next season honestly.
I'd rather see Hawks traded off but I get why Miller would go to VAN since he has more trade value.

He was relied on pretty heavily for defensive assignments, and was probably one of the Isles better players in terms of shot suppression. He also led the Isles in minutes/game on the PK. I'm not sure if he's worth the 4 - 4.5 million, but I'm fairly certain he'll get it unless he takes less to play somewhere specific.</div></div>
Well I'm hoping my wizardry comes to fruition lol.

Yeah, I wasn't too sure on this. His stats totals weren't anything impressive so I didn't know if his value was more on the defensive side or if he plays on the PK. I could see something like 2.5-4.5M for a guy like him depending on a)if teams actually want a him on the team and b)what his skillset actually is.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SKWPG</b></div><div>Okay Juan, seriously get someone to read the trade to you and explain in very small words.
1 - Steeves, Alex (NOTHING)
2 - 2023 1st round pick (BOS) (LATE 1st round picks are generally of little value - Unproven draft pick that "may" play in the NHL some day - So... NOTHING).
If you can't see that, then don't even bother replying. It's quite clear that the offer for the heart and soul of the Jets who does so much for them is worth a LOT more than NOTHING!</div></div>
That BOS pick might be a top 15 pick next draft, especially if Bergeron and Krechi are not coming back. They'll probably either try for speedy rebuild or a re-tool, and there's no certainty that they'll make the playoffs with a new roster.
Also, for your late first round pick has little value remark, while in theory this may be true, as there is uncertainty in that, you can't discount that more elite players have been coming from the late first round and even through the entire second round in the past 5 years. Just look at Dallas' 2017 Draft: Oettinger was a late first, Robo and Hintz were both second rounders.

3-team trade
I don't think ARZ takes that deal. Keller is THE bright spot on that team right now and the value of that trade is way off. Nick Robertson, to me, is injury prone and is very behind in his devopment. I agree with you that TOR should trade him this offseason at some point (they should've traded him last preseason tbh) but not just him and a pick for an elite talent like him. Keller is a play driver and a top 3 forward on any team.

TOR finally gets a young prospect on their ELC to play on the top line, and then trade him? Does not make sense. I feel like TOR management doesn't fully know Knies' full potential yet, but they got a taste and I don't think they will be interested in trading him away anytime soon.

Yeah, that Marner for RNH isn't worth it. First the value is off by a considerable amount and RNH will come with a term of 6 years. Not a fan of that, especially for a declining player that you mentioned yourself.

Crazy trade idea
I think to maximize your value of trading Marner, you would need an elite player with less of a cap hit. That way you could weaponize the cap in a smart way instead of getting back term players on crap contracts.
Also, there's no way Samsonov makes more than Jake Oettinger.

Johnston's trade value is much higher than that. Stars are not willing to trade an A+ prospect on his ELC for $7M added cap space, and mid-tier trash with low draft picks. No offense but you'd have a better time convincing me of Hertl for this trade, and even then Dallas does not have the cap space.

Hawks, in my opinion, didn't play too well the last half of the season, especially in this past second round vs Seattle. He was slow and got exposed numerous times and was scored on a lot. I know he was hurt, I'm just sure if he was hurt the whole series. I don't think he was but he definitely should not have played in game 6.

The problem with Tufte is he doesn't really play to his size. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't receive a qualifying offer this offseason. Swap Delly and Stanky and I don't think Esa is a first line dman anymore. more of a second or third pairing guy with a fast dman with him.

The trade with TOR is extremely volatile and very unsafe. You'll have multiple guys that can just walk in Free Agency if they do not re-sign with ARZ. And giving up your future prospects is not the way to go in doing that. Your trades are pretty much trading your entire future for a possible one season playoff run. If they even make the playoffs with Matt Murray in net.

As a Dallas fan, I would hope they dont do that either. In 3 years, Suter, Benn, Faksa, Lindell are all off the books. By that time their big 3 forward prospects (Bourque, Stankoven, Johnston) should be getting into the lineup for them. Hopefully by then they draft a RHD that can play with Miro.

Major Rebuild
I think this team does better in the standings than you think it will. Also, a "major rebuild" is trading away value for a bunch of high drafting picks. You seem to be getting 18-28 overall picks, which could be grade A prospects, but not as likely. If this were a "major rebuild" you should trade Ehlers, and not trade for Severson, who is young, but he is pretty good.
Overall, your blueline is pretty good minus Schmidt. In this you seem to be doing some rebuilding for some very good prospects, but I think they make a difference for the team to be good enough not to get a top 5-10 pick, even with Blackwood as your G.
If I'm the GM, I would prefer a re-tool, trading away Schiefle, Wheeler (locker room cancer guys per rumors), Dubois if he really wants to go, and Schmidt because I don't think he's good enough on a contender. WIth those trades, you can get some young and undervalued players. Hellebuyck is very good and will get you far in the playoffs, granted you have guys that can play in front of him. Also, there are still some UFAs that can be signed to help with depth. ie Sonny Milano.

So I'll give another two cents here. While there is cap going out of DAL with Lindell going to FL, Hornquist has a $5.3M cap hit and adding Montour with another $3.5M. Montour got 37 points last season on the best scoring team in the league (im pretty sure). While that is nice, Lindell is a defensive workhouse, is great on the PK, can transition the puck, pass, and has a sneaky shot. Lindell is by far better than Montour in the 200 ft game.
Stars have still yet to sign Oettinger or Robertson and my guess is that the numbers for signing both today would put Dallas over the cap. DAL might be looking to trade something to free up cap space, ie Faksa or possibly even Gurianov.

They'll have to pay Arizona a lot to take that contract off their books.</div></div>
ARZ can't be spending any unneeded money for the next few years as they'll be losing revenue. My bet is the owner put a hard cap on spending so Hayes would be off the table, even though Hayes' actual salary is lower than his cap hit.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dr_Invictus</b></div><div>I want to avoid being a troll here. So, as politely as possible, I am going to say Calgary would never take this deal. They are giving up a top 4 d man who outscored Dougie Hamilton last year, and 1 year of Sean Monahan's cap, to take on a 30 year old Center making upwards of 7MM a year for 4 more years and had the same amount of points as Kylington last year? Kevin Hayes is in steady decline. Philly would need to pay to have a team take that contract and it would be steep. It's that or you buy him out. I could see Monahan for JVR, since both are UFAs and it saves Philly some cap.</div></div>

He put up 22 goals in the last 60 games of the year (after AV got fired) let him bring his value up and trade him at the deadline
Monahan Hayes is interesting. Hayes definitely is the much better player and is pretty much fairly priced, within a million of what he should be getting id say… I guess taking Kylington would be a good deal. He’d probably play with York on the 3rd pair
Would also clear cap next year or let Philly flip Monahan for like a 3rd if anyone needs a 4C</div></div>
The best post yet so far in here haha. Yeah the Hayes one is pretty good. I'm not a Philly fan, just bored at work and I like to think I have interesting ideas. My thought process for Monahan is he could probably benefit from a change of scenery and someone like Torts will either make or break him. He could be a good depth C for cheaper or return to form. Either way, Philly could keep him in what would be a good trade or deal him at the deadline.
My thought process for BUF taking JVR is he only has 1 year left on his contract and he scores goals, especially on the PP. I think BUF might want to do that deal as it's low risk. But I'm just spit balling here.
