My favorite Leafs proposals are when Andersen somehow returns a top pairing RD
and then Murray returns a bunch of players the Pens don't need and a mid round pick

My Thoughts on Rumours
Here we go again. Pesce the player in a vacuum, has a lower value. Sure.
Trades aren’t done in a vacuum
A. He has a great contract.
2. A premier shutdown defender that never gets to show off his scoring in favorable matchups. He gets just as many top line draws as Slavin with 0 PP time.
3. On top of that, he is the only long term RHD we have.
Knowing all those 3 things, we don’t have to trade/ want to trade him. If ya want him, the organizational price is to be paid based on his value to the organization. Same reason we don’t value Andersen that high no matter how much you tell us what he is worth.
So if we could put a cease on the Pesce trades that would be great.

Absolutely a better return for Karlsson. I cannot see why Carolina would even consider this deal. It is basically Kapanen, good player but nowhere near the level of Pesce and then scraps.

I can see him being traded because he’s not better then Pesce or Hamilton and he won’t like playing 3rd pair minutes. But not for this package.

As a lifelong Canes fan and season ticket holder, I can safely say you are wrong about Aho playing center. He was the BEST center we had on our team the last 2 months of the season when Billy Peters finally let him play there. The organization has been saying for 3 straight years "we view him as a center in this league" and have already said he will get he first shot at 1C this season.
OH not to mention he anchored the top line for Finland as 1C in IIHF and finnished (pun intended) with 18 points in 8 games, to lead the entire tourny. He also has played center his entire career minus the last two years while he transitioned to the NHL. He is ready now.
Your point about him lacking defensive ability against top lines is also just plain wrong, I have no idea where you got that from.
And why in the ever living hell would we split up Aho/TT. They easily have the BEST chemistry of two forwards we have had in a Canes uniform in many years. They compliment eachother extremely well and make each better on the ice. There is a less than zero percent chance Teravaho is broken up this year.
I understand these are your opinions and you are entitled to them, I dont mean any offense but your analysis seems to be misguided.
Aho IS our 1C of the future and he will play there the whole year coming up, you can count on that.</div></div>

This is a playoff team (Opening night roster)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Necas has played as a C in the most violent league in the world, the Czech league. He is more then capable of being a C. He has developed as a C and has never played anything but C. If you play him as a winger, you wil have 2 guys playing the same position. Dundon doesn't want to spend money, hence Hanifin and Lindholm are flames, Skinner a sabre etc. RNH is an overpaid 2C. The canes have Jordan Staal who puts up the same numbers and is better defensively. Faulk doesn't have the value of a true 1C. That's why everyone thought Skinner and Faulk would go together. Teravainen and Aho can get 60 on their own. They have started to pick up, and if Aho can score within the first 25 games this season (he hasn't before) He could easily break 60-70 points. Teravainen if he continues shooting like he was, and passing like he can could easily have 60-70 points. Plus Aho can play as a true number one centre.</div></div>
Im from Slovakia and I saw Necas in few games in Czech league. I know all about him. And I know fully that he is capable of being C, but thats how coaches in NA like it to be and making a great C is a process and you dont want to rush it. Necas and Rask would share the load on C. Necas is RH, Rask LH, one would take right sided FOs, the other LS FOs. You want the best Necas, do it like this. Difference between RNH and Faulk is a bit more than a million and you will address your need. You will be surprised but RNH is as good defensively as Staal, difference is that RNH is extremely fast and a lot younger. And Aho and Teuvo can put up more than 60 alone but give them RNH they would be ppg players. They are speedy. Add bonified speedy top-6 C between them and you have a scary line. Look at how Hall and Eberle brakethrough after moving from EDM. Aho is a winger and he is the most efficient as a LW. Im just saying.. although to the main point. If goalies are better than last season, you have definitely a playoff team.

Not saying that was a good trade (really think they misplayed their hand but don't think they were ever going to a get a great offer anyways), but circumstances around it were much different (relationship between Skinner/management, NMC clause, 1 year left versus 2, etc.)

Pacioretty trade to Carolina
Carolina says no. Rask is a very serviceable 2C. Fleury has a ceiling to be a top d man, he’s probably not gonna reach that, agreed but still solid top 4. Carolina also still have Skinner and Faulk and they won’t trade for someone like Pachoretty when he is in the same situation as Skinner, UFA at the end of the year, plus he’s older then Skinner is. Just doesn’t make sense.

Is Pesce better than any of these guys?
Pesce is crazy under rated because he doesn't give you the flash of the offensive stars. He plays strong in both ends and just makes plays.
He is not to the calibre of guys like Doughty at this point. But give him a year or 2 more and I am pretty certain he is listed as a true elite 2 way defender. His possession numbers push those that are currently at the top of the position as do his minutes and he plays a physical style and still has the legs to move with quick forwards. He is 3 years in the league now and is just beginning to crack his potential.
But trying to compare guys like Pesce to guys that are pure offense just doesn't work for true comparison. But when it comes to shut down guys, like true shut down guys Pesce is among the better guys in the league.

Faulk and Skinner to Chicago
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Faulk isn't worth more then a mid to late 1st rounder...here they get a 1st and 4th rounder for him.
Skinner is a 1 year rental and he gets a 2nd round pick, AA, Forsberg (Car needs a better backup), and Kahun who is one of the top prospects from the KHL. For a 1 year rental and being a 1 dimensional player, Skinner isn't worth more then that. You could swap out Beaudin, the #27 pick, with Kahun also if Car prefers.
OTT will get a 1st, 2nd and more for EK. They will need to replace EK on the right side and Rutta is serviceable on the 2nd line and a pretty good 3rd liner.</div></div>
Jfyi Kahun is not from the KHL - he only played in the German league DEL.
I'm not sure Carolina would want a goalie who is waiver eligible either as they already have Mrázek penciled in as backup. Mrázek had one very bad season but he was most average to well above average his other seasons in the NHL, which is more than Forsberg can say. They might be interested in a goalie prospect that can play in the AHL, though.
I agree with others that the Canes aren't going to want Anisimov - if they're not getting a 1C, they're looking for players in the general age range of their younger players. It's why they keep asking for Saad and Schmaltz type of guys, which are off limits for the Hawks (as they should be).

O’Reilly to Calgary, deal with Carolina
CAR is not taking that deal. Rask had a bad year, played injured and is getting a very bad rep. He is solid, young 200’ center that just needs to get healthy and have a bounce back year. I don’t share the need to dump his salary and it isn’t a bad deal for a 40-50 pt center.

Carolina fans: fair deal?
I don’t believe the #2 pick is on the table for anything less than a top 10 superstar player. Hurricanes are looking for quality top line assets instead of continuing to compile prospects and picks.
Something else to think about...take a look at the Hurricanes depth chart and start to find spots for the incoming players you are proposing. You start to just push good players out to find room.
Good idea, but canes say no thanks.

DRAISAITL TO CAROLINA
As an outside from both teams fandoms, that trade is pretty unbalanced.
It's a 1C + potential top 6 RW for a top pairing d-man + a first line winger + the #2 overall that will be a top line winger. Aho and Draisaitl had pretty similar PPG this past season - Aho is two years younger, though Draisaitl plays the more important position. More realistic imo is Draisaitl for one of the Carolina d-men (it'd more likely be Faulk or Hanifin though - Slavin and Pesce are reportedly untouchable) and maybe a non-1st round pick thrown-in, but no Aho or #2. Yamamoto addition doesn't really move the deal for them to include a #2 pick or Aho either - Svechnikov is going to be a better player than him, probably already is tbh.
