He’s been workmanlike. I personally like more of what I’ve seen from Regula, Renouf, and Mitchell. I don’t see an NHL defenseman when I watch him, but he’s great to have on an AHL roster

1- Necas was on the table for Saros. Canes don’t want to pay his next contract.
2 - who said Debrusk is supposed to be an upgrade for Necas? He’s a replacement for, the upgrade is in goal. Debrusk softens the blow with a a FW that gives somewhat similar production and better defense.
I agree the Canes probably are out of the goalie market with Freddy getting closer. A few weeks ago it might have been different.
Ullmark/Merkulov for Necas/Raanta would have made more sense and more cap neutral.

Raanta is expendable, yes. Chatty is a good cheap part of our top notched D. If he isn’t there, we have to change up our pairings because Orlov isn’t the guy to cover TDA. Chatty has bottom tier top 4 metrics right now. He is playing well
All of that just means the value of the whole package not indicative of each player’s value.

If the trade was early enough so that the Sharks could flip Debrusk and Grzekcyk to playoff teams they might take it. But in that case the Bruins should just make those trades themselves.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Newgod77</b></div><div>Debrusk and Grzelcyk are better than Duclair and Ferraro</div></div>
Debrusk is better than Duclair, and he's a UFA who'd likely leave the Sharks at the end of the season. Same with Grzelcyk. Sharks don't need rentals for their playoff run.
Ferraro is better than Grzelcyk. Capfriendly scouting reports say so. Ferraro is also bigger, 5 years younger, and signed for 2 more years. He's a leader with great character. It would take a lot for the Sharks to part with him.
If you need to send Grzelcyk and and Debrusk to make the $ work, I get it. But tbh you'd probably get more trading them to a playoff bound team.
Zboril is playing in the AHL at age 27.
Sharks counter with Ferraro and Duclair for DiPietro and a 1st round pick.
Trade Debrusk and Grzelcyk to other teams to clear the cap space if needed.
Great post title!

No thanks from LA.
The Kings have an AHL goaltender set to make the NHL jump in Eric Portillo. Bussi isn't helpful.
Grezelcyk isn't a bad defenseman, but he's not the rental the Kings need. They either need a top four, puck-moving LHD like Hanifin or a big and mean 3LD that's willing to throw the body around. He is neither.

I’ll take Debrusk over Novak all day everyday, rest is accurate.
Novak has 5 hits on the year, impossible unless you are a goalie, 17 blocks, meh defensively, bad at faceoffs. He has one value, offense. Boston can get that same player simply by recalling Lysell or Merkulov.

I went into this season under the impression they were going to move him at the deadline. The team doing better than expected has made life difficult in that aspect.

If Debrusk does not extend with Boston he’s going UFA.
Saros is not an indicator, he has a long term contract. And that news changes everyday anyway.
Retain 50% on Debrusk and trade him to EDM for 1st/3rd.
Flip the 1st/3rd along with Forbort and Lauko for Novak/Carrier. Makes more sense for everyone involved.
But be warned, if you are one of those that don’t like Debrusks game then you are going to HATE Novak. Just saying.

What’s in it for Preds?
An expiring contract that won’t extend.
A cap dump they won’t extend.
So…Lauko. Lauko for Novak and Fabbro. Seems light.
Trade Debrusk to a buyer. He has no value to a seller without an extension.

I agree about Merk not being a 4th liner, but maybe he has to develop that part of his game the way Freddy/Marchand did to make the team. Merk and Lysell have had very similar production this year - Lysell has the higher ceiling IMO and there are more opportunities at RW than there on the left side

i like the overall concept of letting Grzelcyk walk in favor of Hanifin. I'm cool with that term given Hanifin's age.
There are a couple of things I wouldn't be happy about with this roster moving forawrd.
First off, Heinen deserves a raise. He'll get it.
I think it's pretty clear that Ullmark will not be with the team beyond next season. I really think the team has to get some assets, and let sway take over the net.
I would much prefer an option other than Smith as the 7D.
I also think Sweeney has to get an extension done for Frederic in this off-season. I don't think the number is going anywhere but up.
