Kraken - Could Go Crazy Eichel Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stripes77</b></div><div>Kicks in July 1st 2022, after the draft. They are in no rush and shouldn't be</div></div>
Looks like the bridge is not only burned, but blown up. Buffalo has such little bargaining power at this point. By refusing to approve Eichel's surgery now, that adds risk to his recovery timeline and questions about his return to form. Young, yes, but injured and unhappy is not a recipe for good leverage in a trade.

Eller for Tara
CAPS love Eller, so he won't be moved unless they are convinced McMichael is ready for prime time. Even then, Kuzy is on the hot seat, not Eller. I like Tarasenko and think he has some great updside and is really motivated to prove himself (has comeback player of the year written all over him), but he's still risky for a team to take on at his cap hit. Besides, the caps do not need that much depth at RW. Brass love Oshie for what he brings on and off the ice and Wilson (no matter what you think of him) is a unicorn in the current NHL and they want him on the ice more than a 3rd liner. This doesn't make much sense for the CAPS unless Oshie was taken by the Kraken or dealt.

I agree, he's in his prime. My response was to the idea of BUF getting more after he sits out for nearly a year than they will right now.

Good luck to BUF on that bet. And wastes another year of their perpetual rebuild. But I guess if any franchise and fanbase have that kind of patience to field a competitive team, its BUF (how many years have they been waiting?)

Fair enough. Made an adjustment, though I don't think BUF is going to get anything close to this from anyone. They overplayed their hand.

You think Eichel is playing in BUF this year?? Bridges are burned - not gonna happen. And the value of an aging asset that doesn't play goes down, not up in all sports.

OK. What does a good deal look like (keeping in mind that BUF is running out of options)

CAPS Now What
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GoodIdeaAtTheTime</b></div><div>Sabres have no interest in Kuznetsov and a 30 year old.</div></div>
Look, I get it, BUF would be nuts to take a one for one Kuzy for Eichel. That's not what this trade is. It's essentially Kuzy to replace Eichel today (so you're not fielding a top line center that would be a third line center on every other team) with future assets to rebuild through the draft (1st and 2nd round picks). The 3rd rounder is essentially to take Jensen off the books. You could argue that the package needs to be stronger with another pick, but let's face it - now that every team has already completed their Free Agent spending spree and the NHL is under a flat CAP, Buffalo's leverage (and with it their options) are getting slimmer.
Don't get me wrong, the CAPS probably don't get Eichel, but someone is going to get him and it's going to look like a steal. Sorry BUF fans. Trying to extort a big return for a discruntled star player demanding a trade during a flat CAP year and waiting until after all of the NHL has already blown their wads in FA isn't a great idea. Honestly, NYR probably end up with Eichel for what will look like highway robbery

ok what can we do here with no trades
Haha. I like the idea of Seattle taking Donskoi and signing UFA Landeskog, completely fleecing COL. Seriously doubt they will sign Andersen. I think they are happy with a young goaltending duo.

+/- is not the best metric for the value of a player. There have been some mediocre players that were among the league leaders at times. While individual players contribute, its more of a value of the entire team and only in 5 on 5 play.

Seattle might retain salary for a year, but not for the remainder of his contract (3 years). They would lose cap flexibility for too long. The Ruskie line would be fun though.

CAPS Eichel 2022
Ritzy, aren't 3 draft picks younger pieces? Do you expect someone to hand them multiple proven NHL'ers? Doubtful. They will be lucky to get a 2nd line center in return plus picks. They gotta start building for the future. They are not competitive now or for the foreseeable future.

CAPS Eichel 2022
I don't really think the Caps will get Eichel with everyone else salavating, but let's be honest BUF back is against a wall. They don't have the leverage because everyone knows he wants out. They aren't going to get what he's worth. Kuzy may be a down grade, but still a top line center now and in the near future and they are getting a haul of prospects ('21 2nd and 3rd picks and '22 1st). Not a bad package for a team that doesn't want to be embarrassed every night and still build for the future.
Regarding Edmundson, he's nothing special. Orlov has a lot more upside. Montreal already explored a trade for Orlov, so they can't be that happy with their current D. I could see reducing the picks coming back to just one 2nd or 3rd rounder, though.

Landeskog and Hamilton
Not bad. Team looks amazing in goal, solid D and top line, but with some extra cap space left, I have to wonder why you didn't secure some more solid middle six forwards like Jared McCann, Brandon Tanev, Athanasiou Andreas, or Ryan Donato? Or some solid middle D men like Will Butcher, Nikita Zadorov, Jake Bean, Dylan DeMelo, or Connor Clifton?

ovechkin and landeskog
Ovi isn't going anywhere and $8m is way too low. He might take $9.2m a year for 4 yrs to match his buddy Backstrom, but to go somewhere else he'd need a big raise to consider. Likely north of $10m. Landy is closer, but he wanted over $9m and long term (8 years) from Col, but didn't get it, so he's likely looking for that to leave. Interesting thought, but not gonna happen.

Kraken loaded after draft
Nathan - you're right. $8m over the cap, but i left everyone on the active roster, but it'll have to get trimmed down to 23 before the season, so some assets will get traded or assigned to minors (or both). Off the top, trading Giordano to a contender for picks would free up nearly $7m. Terasenko is another $7.5 m, Schultz another $4m, Duchene $8m among others. And, I don't think they'd keep both Bishop and Price long term. At least one, or both could get shipped for picks once they show signs of getting healthy.
Just an exercise to show just how many good assets are out there for the Kraken to take. They will be drowning in riches, if they so choose. This doesn't even take into account trades that teams may make, giving them prospects not to take these assets!

Why Klefbom? He's likely out next year, but he's pretty young and a stud D. I don't think his career is over by a long shot and damn good.

Mooterus, not gonna say you are wrong, but I just confirmed that LTIR can be used in the offseason (article from "couchguyssports.com" titled "The NHL LTIR Explained." In this case, the use of the LTIR would be to allow the Kraken time to make some trades for prospects and get under the cap by the time these guys get healthy. That includes trading the LTIR assets. How many competitive teams wouldn't want a crack at Price, Bishop, or Klefbom if they were getting close to healthy?
