There is what fans think and what GMs think. I was very for this deal based on culture, but I now think Zegras will be a distraction we don't need.

I don't think we can afford to be a bottom5 team next year.
Draft Macklin, reunite him with Hutson on the PP and sign/trade for one last top6 forward. Then, we are pretty much settled as long as everyone develops.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KentMcNally</b></div><div>That is true. My mistake.
My question to you is: If you had to choose between the options of MC in 2024 vs getting JH in 2025, what would you rather have happen, Celebrini this year or Hagens next year (which would mean another year near the bottom for Montreal)?
And why?</div></div>
I choose both, why choose one when the rule states you can advance your position twice?!
But strictly speaking on this scenario, take Celebrini, bigger, stronger, more mature and almost NHL ready by the draft (maybe season him in the AHL for a few months next year)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KentMcNally</b></div><div>It is more or a question of getting people's opinions on prospect valuation and where Montreal stands in their rebuild (i.e. how patient people might be for another stinker of a year).
Personally, I would go with Celebrini over Hagens in an "either/or situation", as it would slightly speed up the rebuild and I am just a little concerned about Hagens only being 5'9" (but would obviously be happy with Montreal getting either or both).</div></div>
I edited my response to include my choice of the two lol

TDL and Draft trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KentMcNally</b></div><div>I think the truth is somewhere in between. Stankoven has been very good in juniors and the AHL, but he is on the small side, which can make it difficult to succeed in the NHL.
I don’t think Stankoven has proven to be worth 3 first rounders by any means, but I think Dallas would reject a Matheson trade for Stankoven.
Honestly I am not sure there is a trade fit for him between Montreal and Dallas (maybe Matheson and Mesar).
I would be hesitant, though, for Montreal to take on another Caufield sized player. But I could be proven wrong in a few years. He could be the next Martin St. Louis!!</div></div>
I have no doubt Stankoven is a great prospect, it isn't a question about his size or ability just right now, Matheson has more value. A proven NHL top 4 D man on pace for 50+ points on one of the worst teams in the league vs a former 2nd round pick who while playing well still wouldn't go top 10 in a redraft, I wouldn't be trading them 1 for 1 let alone swapping Evans for Faska <strong>and</strong> adding 2 1st round picks.

Less term for the same role
MTL Passes , bad attitude as he didnt enjoy the MTL Media
I dont blame him, i dont enjoy the MTL Media
If i had to Endure what he did , i'd probably have a bad attitude as well
But he suffered for it as 20 some games after he left due to issues with the Coach/GM
Both were fired and KK woulda went from a 3rd line role under them top top 6 under MSL
MSL i think could untap some of that potential for him cause unlike in CAR he woulda been 1/4 focuses at the time with the big 3(Guhle,Suzuki & Caufield)
But he got butt hurt and acted emotional as such went to a middling team as a middling center for top 6 Center pay
Which all sounds fine but the issue is like a Lars Eller he lacks offensive consistency but unlike Lars he's not a solid bulk faceoffs Center who plays big in a defensive role.
Because of all that i'd rather Evans over KK in a MTL uniform
Heck i'd prefer a Waiver Pick Up Center in a MTL uniform over KK
Some Players simply arent built for the Crap Show that is the MTL Media or the "have you learned French Yet" questions.
Its like Alec Martinez said in a MTL vs LAK game in like 2017 i think ?
"Do you think more players should be requires to speak Spanish" and he laughed a bit sarcastically "Why does it Matter?"
"Well you should feel your Culture is Represented " he stopped smiling "and speaking the same Language does that? Good thing we all speak English"
He rejected the Divisiveness of the Question outright
Wasnt willing to let them say that his Culture is defined by Language only.

Finding a trade for Barron
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ricochetii</b></div><div>People have no patience and don't understand that time in the AHL can actually help a player develop.
Matheson had 17 points in his first 84 games and was averaging over 20 minutes a game.
Barron has 29 points in his first 87 games and is averaging over 17 minutes a game.
We have the opportunity to develop an improved version of Matheson/Petry and get him to peak earlier in his career.
We just need to keep working with him so he continues progressing.</div></div>
I think rather highly of him tbh. Reinbacher, Mailloux, Barron on the right side for the next 5-10 looks great to me. In fact, our D core is basically set for the next 5-10 on both sides. A splashy & flashy top 6 offensive forward addition (Zegras-type for example), with the current depth of middle-bottom 6 prospects, and this team is looking wonderful imo.

How is he not? There are 3 RD positions to fill... Reinbacher, Mailloux, Barron. We trade him now, we get to start the search for his replacement. Or we keep him and work on filling the other gaps in the roster.

Captain Morgan
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fangm</b></div><div>First of all this play happens so often at this point that to imply it isn't part of the game is just absurd.
Second a big reason these types of plays happen more often is because young guys like Grieg didn't deal with this in minor hockey like we did when I was younger so he had no clue how to defend himself.
Third if you watch in slow motion, Rielly is trying to go for the ribs/shoulder. If you don't believe this watch it in 0.5x speed or watch Martin Biron's breakdown on TSN. Grieg does the stupidest thing you can which is that he tries to put out his arm and catch Rielly's stick. This causes his stick to go from below shoulder height to riding up his shoulder an into his face. If anything the only reason this hits Grieg's face is because Grieg directs the stick that way.
All this being said, the league is stupid. Like the Hughes/Hathaway situation the league will punish the veteran because the young kid didn't know how to defend themselves. As Torts said, its a bad precedent. Your essentially teaching kids like Hughes that they can letup before the whistle and if they get hit the other guy gets a penalty and so he'll keep doing it to draw calls until one day he doesn't get back up. Grieg will keep being an idiot and taking slapshot into empty nets then letting guys hammer him to get major penalties and get under their skin and this will work until the day Grieg gets a concussion and his career ends.
I think the reason this is so polarizing is because its really a generational gap. All the former players came out in favour of it. Bieksa even said he'd do it in Rielly's shoes on national TV. All the journalists, younger fans, etc. are outraged. Problem is that the league needs to sort this because the thing the young people don't seem to understand is that you can complain all you want but at the end of the day, Rielly will serve his suspension and come back and do the same think in the same situation. And next time the kid might not stand up.</div></div>
Using Torts "It teaches kids to let up before the whistle" is garbage complete garbage. The play was OVER he was celebrating a goal play is OVER THIS WAS AN ATTACK His feelings were hurt and he attempted to injure an agitator. He should get at least 10 make f***ING garbage like this so costly no one thinks about it. I'm not a kid I remember watching Dave Schultz Tiger Williams Steve Durbano Mike Milbury I remember goon Hockey . There is no place in today's game for it.

Furthermore, draft position fails to take into account the organizations ability to draft, developmental choices, or strength of draft. Slaf would have got like 8OA in last year's draft, his draft year was not a strong one, so quit pearl clutching by claiming your 1OA is a guaranteed superstar. NYR though the same **** about Lafrenier and Kakko and look at them now.</div></div>
ANA would not get ANY one of those
never said slaf would be a superstarm, no one knows what slaf will be, he is in his second season, he could be a bust or a 80 point player only time will tell.

Hell no, why do Habs fans continually trade our top assets for players who aren't living up to their draft pedigree? Just keep the assets and draft a player who has a higher ceiling, if they don't work out then it's nothing lost except time. Evans alone is equal to Kakko, why would we give up a 1st + Xhekaj + Kapenen for another Evans/Armia/Lehkonen type of player when we aren't trying to compete?!
