Ya, I was positive it was a M-NTC at the start of the season as well. Never notice until before the deadline. All good no rocks needed.

I mean, something needs to be done to change the Leafs' cap structure... But Nylander's the one guy that actually seems to show up and give a **** in the playoffs.

Nylander Goes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingSalming21</b></div><div>Interesting. The most common theory about the Leafs getting better is that the core must be broken up so a handful of players aren't eating all the cap. I admit I don't have a great deal of knowledge about the Sabres prospects. If they are stacked, you're probably right, this wouldn't make a lot of sense.</div></div>
I think the Core 4 narrative was long over-used and blown out of proportion. If we are being honest, they have been together for 6 years and in those 6 years they had at least 3 or 4 distinct variations of the team, and people have been calling for them to be broken up for at least 4 of those 6 years. The expectation that they had was like they were a core that has one once but can't seem to stay competitive anymore. I do think it's fair to criticize them now and want to see change. That being said just because there's change doesn't mean the results are going to change instantly.
At this point might as well not consider Tavares a core player. Unfortunately, you probably need to wait for his contract to expire though which leaves Matthews, Nylander, Marner, and Rielly. If they do shake up the core and end up getting a player like Power out of it (wishful), I don't hate it but I don't see why you would trade Rielly. The Leafs need to add to their defense another big-minute defender, and you did so with Larsson and Skjei, but you also transferred a whole lot of pressure on Power right away.
As far as ACGMs go, I think you did a bit too much with especially with essentially swapping Rielly for Skjei. Probably sign a RHD on a 1-year deal instead of Skjei or could go with someone like Matt Roy at 5.5-6M. Then instead of Brown, use the 4-4.75M left to try getting a temporary top-6 option. Cowan if he makes the team probably doesn't play higher than 3rd line. Maybe they could find enough money to keep Bertuzzi, if you play Tavares at C instead.

I was wondering if maybe the Sabres might soon feel a cap crunch like Toronto's, only on the blueline. It's hard to fit three legit #1 D-man in the cap. Forgetting all that, do you think it would be a fair trade if it fit both club's needs?</div></div>
Both centers failed, so Nylander would have had a down year too. Thompson was hurt, Cozens is a concern, but adding Nylander wasnt going to turn him around. Lindy should though, and Quinn and Thompson should be healthy going into next year, if so their top 6 is maxxed out. Id like to see them sign Kane, but they dont really have a reason to give up an asset like Power for more top 6 forwards when theyre struggling to find spots for their own prospects too. Also Nylander costs significantly more than Power, so it doesnt help the Sabres cap at all.

It won’t be TOR’s best playoff performer who just signed a huge ticket. TOR will trade Marner for cents on the dollar before even considering moving Nylander.

Byram isn't and likely won't become a legit #1 D so no, I don't envision they'll have a problem with having too many 1D. As far as value goes, likely not. High-end Dmen generally hold the highest individual asset value and, while his potential hasn't yet fully manifested, I don't imagine that Power has lost the cache he had coming into the league.

Nope wrong. Reaves and Kampf has played great in this playoffs, I’m glad we have Reavo for another 2 years

Serious conversation time
I disagree about Treliving. It isn't his fault Klignberg was out for the season, he was supposed to be a major asset on the power play. Treliving has only been here one season, deserves some time. Also Cowan as a late 1st rounder looks like a steal as of now. But yes Dubas emptied the draft board for pure rentals and some really atricious trades, although he did have some good ones (Muzzin, Campbell). The Tavares contract was abysmal and sooo unnecessary, that has handcuffed the team financially for years and the contracts of Matthews, Marner and Nylander are a joke, should have been tougher in negotiations. There are stars around the league that have signed for less on their teams for the sake of building team that is capable of getting out of the first round. If I was GM I'd trade Marner and Rielly for draft picks and prospects and go out and try to sign a Skjei, Demelo and Stamkos this offseason. Letting a 50 goal guy and penalty killer in Hyman for 5.5 million go is unforgivable. RIP Amirov but I was hoping they would've drafted Schneider ahead of him defence first right hand shot.

This is the worst part about the fact that the Leafs will never win everything. All of the top guys have NMC or NTC and are paid ridiculously well so they have no reason to waive but they can just have a good regular season every year collect their pay check and chill.

Borje Salming - ALS

There was certainly nothing to cheer about as far as team success was concerned in the 1980s, but there was Borje. But above all that, he is truly a man of humility and class.
