They are going to have to move two of Krejci, Backes & Rask to be able to resign their young talent. They are going to have to give up something for a team to take on those contracts. </div></div>
Not sure about that when you take into account Chara and McQuaid likely come off the books next season, plus the cap will likely rise. I think if they can get Backes' cap hit off via trade, they'll be in good shape.
Not sure SJS is going to get rid of Pavs.

Tavares isn't Stamkos
I think trying to sign a player with a cap-hit like Nino's while also signing JT is a mistake. Even with the 7.75 mil off the books with Chara and McQuaid leaving in 19-20 and potential cap increase that year, it's going to be tight to sign McAvoy, Donato, Carlo, Heinen, plus lower level FA's. Not to mention the need to have room for DeBrusk in 20-21.
I think the only way JT fits in the cap structure is to trade Krug, like you did, but also find a taker for Krejci's albatross. Moving Krejci would likely mean losing a high end prospect or younger high level roster player (Heinen, Donato, or DeBrusk) in the deal in exchange for Krejci's cap hit.
Moving Backes may prove difficult without retaining substantial salary, in which case they may wait to for 19-20 for a buy out.

offseason
Not sure why you're paying that much for Lehtonen. Over 10 mil in goaltending alone! I imaging if management wanted to shell out that much for a back up they would offer Khudobin same term for less than 3.2 per season. Khudobin has played well this season, is already familiar with the room, and gets along well working in tandem with Rask.

Potentially clear space for a Pasta signing (Not a huge fan of the move)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LazarBeams</b></div><div>
Very fair, I think that there should be more interest in Fox, but I do get the McCavoy/Carlo argument. I think there is a basis for a trade here, the problem is that I wouldn't want to give up as much as it would cost, staring with Johnny Hockey or Backlund.</div></div>
I'm with ON3M4N. Johnny Hockey would need to be involved in the deal, but I like your realization that you'd have to take on Beleskey's contract. The money you're proposing for Pasta could be paid by Boston; if Pasta is going to accept that deal, he'd accept it with Boston.
I think if a deal would be made, an NHL ready top 4 D would also need to be included to open up room for Boston to include Carlo in a trade for Duchene.

I get it. You just want the deal done like the rest of us, but no player is going to get 10 mil for that term.

Back Up Rask 1
I don't know where to begin. First, Sweeney would be fired on the spot for this deal. Boston is giving up a young 70 point scorer and a 1st and 3rd for a Back Up goalie and a 1st? Does Boston make more deals to try and replace Pasta? What are your proposed lines after this deal?

Sweeney would laugh this offer away. Boeser, Tanev and a high pick may be a start. Also would have to take Beleskey's contract. But... Pasta will stay in Boston.

Not sure about the defensive pairings, or trading for 1 year of Kane. Youth will take Kane's place and acquiring him won't win BOS a cup. Keep the pick and promote from within.

He has stated he wants to continue playing. He is in great shape usually, one of the most in-shape in the league!! As long as he wants to play, he will be a Bruin. I believe ownership will have honest discussions with him down the road, but I think he can still play for 2 years anyway.....but he also will understand when he is holding the team back and at that point will likely retire......while he is still playing for the B's there is no need to relinquish the C. It doesn't mean that much really, and he is still a leader in the room, players like Bergy look to him for leadership still!
I believe he will retire a Bruin. Just a matter of when.</div></div>
I'm with you provided he stays healthy. Though, If Boston does pursuit and land a top 4 LHD there may be a log jam on the left once prospects are looking for ice time in the show.

The Bruins were on ESPN a decent amount, and the team and their fans and their attitudes resonated with me. I followed since then with varing intensity depending on National TV coverage. Growing up, I would always select Boston in video games. Coworkers during my time working as a stick boy and an equipment manager in the minor leagues, had also followed Boston due to home town loyalty and it also rubbed off on me. Since 2008 I've had NHL Center Ice package, and either watch live or DVR the game. Have maybe missed a dozen since 08. Made a pilgrimage to TD Garden for the home opener of 10-11, plus the following game. Sat in the 3rd row from glass near tunnel; was amongst the kids fist-bumping the team as they came out. Pasta = more term, more money. Yes, Boston did bridge Marchy, but that was years ago under different GM and circumstances. Need to look at comparables more recently around the league and go from the current market.

Totally probable. I too think Beleskey may have a bounce back year. If healthy, try him with Krejci and Pasta in Cassidy's system, perhaps he finds his Ducks form Bs signed him for. If not, waive him and he'd clear.
Maybe wishful thinking.

Cheap salary for 3 more years as he plays through his prime, and who knows Colin Miller could still be the VGN target after all.</div></div>
Agreed. Though BOS could offer a 2018 draft pick to take Colin Miller or better yet, Beleskey. Assuming of course the ARI deal is off the table or tweaked with other players.

Hunwick would at least be an upgrade from JML, and at best a regular on the bottom pair. Not a bad year long band-aid until LHD prospects are ready. Would have to plan on signing Chara to short term low cap hit contract for 18-19, and let Hunwick walk at the end of the year.

Back end
Not sure about the Ekholm deal, I think NSH gets a pretty good return. If they'd take it, I would do it. Prospect pool deep enough to absorb giving up Zboril. Maybe I'd offer Heinen over DeBrusk and see if they'd bite. Don't know if I can get behind the Brown deal. Though you have retained salary, that term eats nearly 3 million for a guy who's like playing in the bottom 6 for 5 more years. Brown's best days are behind him, B's already have aged grit for 6mil a year with Backes.

Fair enough. Perhaps B's squeeze a higher pick than the 5th from SJS, and offer a lower pick than the 3rd.
To me, Dillon is an interesting option. At only 26 he's approaching his prime, cap hit not too bad, manageable term left on his contract, can slide up to second pairing if need be. Could be a good veteran by the time Chara's out and Zboril, Lauzon, etc are NHL ready. At that time you can decide to resign him or trade for other assets.

To B's or not to B's
I like the outcome given your scenario. I think the B's will have to shed salary somehow even if Vegas doesn't take Hayes, K Miller or Quaider. They need to try and get Pasta locked up on a contract with a lot of term. 5 mil won't cut it. Up the salary and term and the contract looks like a steal in a few years.
