Trade Deadline

Which makes the team worse.</div></div>
While Dermott is a solid 7th D, and Mikheyev is one of the fastest in the league and I like him, he just doesn't have the hands to finish his chances. Braun is an upgrade on Holl.
Geertsen is a big boy who can play physical and doesn't mind dropping the mitts if called upon. Who else on the leafs backend can do that? Granted he's there in case a series begins to heat up or get ugly, or rest Sanding or Lily. Bastian is also a big physical boy and younger than Clifford and Simmonds. So rotating them doesn't seem all that bad. Or again if injuries appear he can be inserted much like Clifford. I would take Bastian all day over Engvall. Besides his ungodly reach, he doesn't really contribute to the team.
So I'm not really sure where the depth pieces got worse since the current depth pieces didn't provide anything for the last few playoffs.

Toughness is the key to playoff success, might as well bench Marner and play Clifford there.
Trade Nylander for Delauriers.</div></div>
While your first few words make sense, the latter portions do not. A Nylander for Wilson trade perhaps, but neither side would do it.
In this particular scenario I traded depth pieces for other depth pieces but saved money, got bigger and added toughness/grit. Doesn't affect the top.6 in any way.
I'd like to have Clifford in the lineup so he can be alternated with Bastian and Simmonds.

Trade Deadline
Normally when a team trades a 1st, 2nd, and their 3rd picks plus prospects, you usually expect to have players that will play higher in the lineup than the third line (Brassard does belong there all the same but not Hertl).
You could easily trade less value for lesser players that could do the same job.

There were rumors they were interested in Giordano. I figured a younger but still offensive minded DMan like Rielly would suffice.
Really the trade could be anywhere for a bigger bodied prospect and a couple of decent picks.

To be fair it's a deal I could see Dubas doing as well. Similar to with Chucky, it would be a one year "Redemption Deal" to better the team and hopefully help the player.

So you make a big deal about who they drafted and how it will affect the look of the team, and then you proceed to sign Tony DeAngelo (given his reason for being a FA in the first place is due to controversy it seems a little ironic).

I also some how missed you signing know awful person and bigot tony deangelo which is much worse.
That guy lost his shot at the nhl and any gm who signs him is as gross as he is</div></div>
I think you'd be surprised with his speed. According to how many breaks and partial breaks Hyman had, Tanev could use his speed and slightly better hands to pop more in. Not to mention having him on the top line means more ice time. More ice time leads to more hitting which hopefully will wear down the other team some.
As for the signing. Similar to Chucky, it seems like something Dubas would do (assuming Tony came out and apologized). Cheap no risk deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>How about getting players that add up to at least half riellys value?</div></div>
I did. Big stay at home DMan in Soucy. And a speedy heart and soul player in Tanev. Sandin will replace Reilly for offensive DMan and anchor on the PP. Soucy adds size and toughness on the back end that replaces BOGO. Tanev replaces Hyman at a cheaper cost,.hits more, and I'm confident playing with Matthews and Marner would up his production more than Hyman.
These two pieces fill needed holes for the sake of Rielly. Fair trade in my eyes. Because Seattle is starting they will want at least a prospect to part with these players hence SDA. 5th could be removed I guess.

That is one way to look at it.
I viewed the other angle which is losing him after the playoffs so trade him while you can and get established players to continue the playoff run.

LEAFS 2022

I think if the leafs offered 7x7.5-8M they potentially could do it. As a franchise they have money. They could do what they did with Matthews and I believe Tavares and make the majority of his contract a signing bonus. This way Dougie gets guaranteed money every year. Other than this I can't see him signing with the Leafs.

The main issue I see here is the NJD trade. You're basically trading Mikheyev for another Mikheyev only this one isn't as fast. Plus you give up Dermott and a pick. The leafs would be better off keeping Mickey and Dermott and either trade them at TDL for assets or a depth grinder player for the playoffs.

TML 21-22 V6
I'm a die hard leafs fan, but come on!
"Hey is this Columbus GM? Hi it's Kyle Dubas from TML. I have a couple of players who aren't getting much ice time, do you use the fair play rule? Can you trade me two of your roster pieces for them? Oh and you have to retain half their salaries. Yes for both. If it helps I can throw in a second round draft pick. Ignore the fact it'll probably be a late second rounder, and pay more attention to the fact I don't have many draft picks left because **** our future right? So this is actually a limited edition rare draft pick. What's that? Oh you'll think about it and call me back? It was hard to understand you when you were laughing (hopefully not at me).
Cool, talk to you later.
(He's definitely going to call me back and accept)"

Top Line Engvall
In a bottom 6, lower risk role, he is consistent. Neither amazing nor terrible which is a good thing. He can skate and as mentioned does randomly produce on a streak.
However, if he is doing Hyman's job it would be the same as icing 2 forwards. Matthews and Marner would have to work harder and skate more to get the puck. If he could pack a few more.pounds on to fill out or even just become more aggressive, he would be a great pick retrieval player. Unfortunately he reminds me of Gauthier in that he's big but not one mean bone in his body...
