Normally when a team trades a 1st, 2nd, and their 3rd picks plus prospects, you usually expect to have players that will play higher in the lineup than the third line (Brassard does belong there all the same but not Hertl).
You could easily trade less value for lesser players that could do the same job.
Of course, I only didthat to balance the attack, but Hertl would most likely be on that 2nd line at LW, with Brassard and Kerfoot on 3rd line. Brassard and Kerfoot can play LW or C.
The picks are alot to surrender, but the idea isn;t to "save money/assets" for lesser players, the idea is to get two solid and producing vets to solidify the lineup and Hertl as the real difference maker. Brassard has been solid this year, but Braun has been great: solid defensively (playing 1st pairing during Ellis injury), but ultimately a great PK guy and strong vet to allow Sandin more freedom.
I dont think, based on their level of play that you get Brassard and Braun cheaper than that, and Hertl would be the best LW on the team, but this is for a deep playoff run. I realize that a 1st, 2nd and 3rd is alot to give up, I think the difference they would bring is worth it. The depth and talent level is raised quite a bit
