Can we talk about that Freddy deal yet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>He has scored 15+ goals once and over 40 points once.
He has scored more than 10 points twice and had more than 3 goals twice
He's 30</div></div>
He's also played more than 55 games only twice - the past two seasons with the Wild. He literally had 103 games in parts of 4 seasons under his belt before getting a shot with the Wild - I don't think using counting stat benchmarks for him works. It's also several years ago, on a different team, with a different coach, and with different usage (9ish minutes TOI with Nashville vs. 16+ with the Wild.) It's apples and something even more different than apples than oranges.
His most recent production is 158 GP over two seasons with the Wild, where he went 33-48-82. Over an 82 game pace, that averages out to a 17-25-42 line. I don't think calling him a 15-20 G/40pt guy is any sort of stretch when that's the production he's put up for the majority of his career to date.
The age is what it is. He's 30, he's gonna get $2.1M through his age-34 season. It's 3rd line money - hell, if the cap goes to $90M+ it's going to be 4th line money. Acting like he's a problem for a Wild team paying their 38 year old 7th D $2M (with a full NMC) or paying Marcus Johansson $2M for his age-33/34 seasons (with, you guessed it, a full NTC) just seems like picking nits.

Was that really selling high though? He had 7 points in 45 games with us and was nowhere near the player he was in 2021-22 with Eriksson Ek and Foligno. He really wasn't the same since he hurt his shoulder in Ottawa. I think this was much more a case of taking advantage of a coach's love for a former player. Realistically, Don Granato (his USNTDP coach) in Buffalo and David Quinn (his BU coach) in San Jose would see the most value in adding Greenway despite all the flaws we were seeing. I'd be shocked if another team outside of those 2 would have paid that much for the Greenway we saw last season.

Or if the ask really is for a '23 pick then it would need to be DET 3rd. I do feel Rossi's value is more in the 20-25 range and Addison in the 45-65 range so maybe a 17th overall and a 73rd overall could get it done.</div></div>
That trade would be viewed as the Wild equivalent of the Bruins taking Zobril/Senycyhn/DeBrusk in 15.

If Bill Guerin can get a 2nd round pick for Jordan Greenway, it would make sense he would try to get more than that for Addison, who has a much higher upside IMO. Of what I can remember, he has yet to sell low on a prospect (or any player for that matter) during his tenure. Obviously Greenway and Addison are different positions, ages/arcs in development curve.</div></div>
I’ll reiterate that my valuation of Addison is based on actual trades of 21/22 yo RD with little to no NHL experience. Greenway was BG selling high and doesn’t factor into that at all.
But trading Addison makes this team worse and I’d be hard pressed to say we’ll be better off trading him for a 1st, let alone scraps. Play the kid, he’s good.

What I mean is that it’s a potentially catastrophic piece of asset management. Rossi for 17 would probably be a wash at best in terms of how good a player you get but you’d have to wait 4-5 years to see it rather than 1-2.
As for the Addison deal, I have a few posts above talking about what players like him go for in terms of trade value. Suggesting a mid-late 2nd a year away is unbearably poor asset management IMO.
I don’t mind decisive action but you need to leverage the assets you have rather than giving them away, which I think this return would be akin to.

Romanov is an entirely different kind of player but I think his trade does add another reasonable data point to think about.

But to say Poulin is in the same boat is pretty out there. Rossi is a year younger and has 2 PPG seasons in the AHL, Poulin hasn’t done anything near that.</div></div>
what i mean by Poulin is in the same boat is hes also a former 1st round pick looking to make his mark where hes an unproven NHL talent that could make it as the pens 3C. Not so much comparing the 2 where i do believe rossi is better although both play 2 very different type of games, wasn't really comparing the too skill wise, Just the situation they are in

I get that we’re trying to temper our expectations about what Addison will bring back but there is a very recent and consistent track record of RD with a cup of tea in the NHL getting dealt for mid to late 1st round picks. I also think Addison is arguably the best of the bunch.
Romanov - 13 OA (draft day 2022)
Lundqvist - 2023 1st (mid-late 20s) from DAL in summer 2022
Sandin - 2023 1st (late 20s) from BOS at 2023 TDL

The fit isn't the issue to me, it's just the price of it and the fact we got Sam Poulin who kinda in the same boat. Also the need for instant production is something the pens need rn and can't really afford to move pick 14 for someone who could become something. If we move the pick, It needs to be for an established top 6 foward, Pens are in win now mode while the core 3 are still producing

If you're asking why he wasn't in the NHL this year. It's because Guerin/Wild organization don't like rushing prospects and even though Rossi wasn't playing bad, he was playing sound defensive hockey at a minimum, his offense wasn't where they wanted it at the beginning of the year so he got sent back down. The plan, initially, was just to get his confidence and scoring ability back on track then call him up again. However, the play of other call ups, namely both Connor Dewar and Mason Shaw kept them in the lineup. Ergo... there wasn't a realistic spot for Rossi on Minnesota's roster until the injury to Joel Eriksson-Ek a couple of games ago

I'd STRONGLY recommend reading <a href="https://hockeywilderness.com/news-rumors/minnesota-wild/marco-rossi-is-ready/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">this article.</a> I think it does an excellent job breaking down how Rossi's game has grown this year and where it hasn't -- particularly w.r.t. aggressiveness on the boards. Which is something Evason values highly.

Hard to be offer sheeted when you're signed to a contract before the offer sheet window opens up.
Gustavsson is priority #1 to sign this coming offseason. All others are secondary. With $9M in cap space to sign everyone, Gustavsson gets his money and then the rest goes to whomever Guerin can squeeze in.

I don't see how Duhaime gets over 1M or how Gaudreau gets less than 2.5M. Based on comparables (Husso, Vaneck, Georgiev etc) Gustavsson likely gets like 3.5M+ too. Might as well just trade Zuccarello, Hartman and Foligno and re-tool while Suter and Parise's buyouts are on the books.

Looks exciting! I really like that 4th line. I think Foligno is exactly where he needs to be and it makes every other line better.
I’d bet you Mats signs a Pavs type deal too. He’s still cooking. I’d rearrange the lines a bit and really think they’ll want a few more vets, but I feel very good about it. I think they get a vet to compete with Beckman/Yurov for one of those mid 6 W spots.

Wild 2 Year Projection - Part II
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caerii</b></div><div>It looks fun, at least.
I think it's pretty optimistic to project some of these guys into this lineup this early. Especially if Guerin and Evason are still around, I see them favoring hard nosed vets especially.
Ohgren is playing in the Swedish B league. I think it would be preferable to give him at least two years in Iowa before putting him into a top six role in the NHL.
Danielson would be a mid/late pick in his D+2 season, not many of those guys playing important roles.
Yurov is a wild card because he's the most skilled of any of our prospects, but he still doesn't have more than a fourth line role with his KHL team (still only 19 though).
Khusnutdinov I have no problems penciling into a middle six spot because he's been playing top six with his KHL team, and he will continue to be between now and then.
Beckman is tough to project too because his game has kind of stagnated.
So I think you need an all new third line if you want to go for peak realism.
I do like your point about starting the season with more cap space though, gives you options to go after a player like (examples from this season) Horvat, Meier and offer them extensions, or even a guy like Sam Bennett who comes with some term, wherever the holes are that season, you don't have to worry about future cap space AS much (with respect to some of the older prospects who will need new contracts after this).</div></div>
Yeah agreed, peak realism would require changes. I'm with you on the points about it being a bit too optimistic with some of those younger players - there was a parent thread where I tried to echo some of that same thinking, but couldn't figure out how to really translate that into this thread without prompting the same discussion over again. Plus it is fun to see some new names/youth.
But it does seem more likely that we'd have a stripped down version of the above with vets dropped in over the fringe-ier types. Some form of [Foligno, Hartman, Bennett, pick-a-name-out-of-a-hat] over [Ohgren, Beckman, Yurov, 23 Draft Pick].
Gonna be interesting to see what happens this TDL and offseason with RFAs/draft - in theory, that should help clarify at least some of this.
