Farewell Cowboy
Seems like a very high price for an undersized D man for a team that is looking to get bigger and more physical. Actually it makes no sense at all.
And I might add Niemeli is also undersized and would like be ok as a 3rd pairing D.

Final Cuts
Leafs don't have the luxury of carrying 3 goalies, so that is not going to happen.
At this point it looks like Jarnkrok is going to stick around so Holmberg and Robertson will be sent down.

Absolutely, and 32nd pick today is now a first rounder.
Pinto would be a steal for a late first rounder who is 5 years away from the NHL. Pinto is here and ready. I think he can be a 30+ goal scorer.

<em>I would do that deal for Pinto. A 6'3" 22 year old who just scored 20 in his first year. Absolutely. Pinto is a solid 3C with 2C potential. Chances of drafting a player like that with a very late first rounder are 50-50 at best.</em>

Trying to Compete without Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoSeider53</b></div><div>Carolina isn't trading Pesce anymore, And that offer isn't even close to getting him out of Carolina.
Patrick Kane declines, He's not signing that cheaply.
Good luck with Dube and Lindholm, With those 2 you might as well keep Nylander. As Lindholm is easily going to get 7-8 years $9,000,000 per.</div></div>
Actually Kane can sign a +35 contract in November and sign a league minimum contract with bonus incentives that don't count agains the cap this year. So a 775k cap hit and say 2m bonus for 20 goals and 2 m bonus for 40 points. But that 4m would have to count against next years cap.
Signing Kane is actually quite doable for the Leafs, provided they can live the the cap implications next year.
As for Pesce, no contending team is going to trade an elite D man right now. What the Leafs have now is as good as it will get until after New Year's.

needs a little adjustment- both Robertson and Klingberg will be ok for the season. You are 1 m over cap so you need to send 1 or 2 down to the Marlies, Kokkonen and Holmberg I would imagine.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vart</b></div><div>THERE IS NO WAY THE DEVILS TRADE ONE OF THEIR BEST PROSPECTS FOR A LITERAL THIRD LINER LOLLLLLLLLLLL</div></div>
If Clarke is one of the Devil's best prospects then they are in a bit of trouble. At 22, he is a former 3rd rounder who had a rather unimpressive career with the 67s and seems to be an average AHLer. At 5'11 and 175 be brings neither scoring skill nor toughness.
Clarke is not a loss and I doubt you ever see him in a Devils uniform. He is a miss. Jarnkrok would be an asset.
Only reason the Leafs make this trade is to clear Jarnkrok's cap hit. Clarke will be a Marlie at the best, but the Leafs would likely not try to resign him next year.

Certainly clearing that 2.1m for Jarnkrok opens things up a bit. There could be other issues we dont know about or things in motion that resolve all of this. Going to be an interesting few weeks ahead.

Allowing Cowan to stay would be the worst thing for him. He needs to go back to the Knights for 1 more year at least. But next year a maybe.
I think Jarnkrok has a minor issue at most so unlikely to be LTIR but you never know. Taking his cap hit out does open a lot of doors and solves some problems.
I dont think Klingberg's injury is serious- he was pulled do to tightness, but because he could not continue.

As much as I liked Sandin he no longer fits with the Leafs. Leafs need to get bigger on Defence this year and Sandin just does not cut it. Besides Niemela is coming along to fill that skilled small D man roll.
Leafs can use that 1st rounder for a more valuable asset. As it is, Sandin gave the Leafs Cowan who is looking not too bad right now.

Kane rumours are going again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>For $800k he just stays in NY lol</div></div>
This would be a +35 contract so performance bonuses would need to be included, and while the Leafs would be able to work him into the cap this year, it would cause some problems next year. I believe these bonuses get worked into the cap hit in the 2nd year, or something like that.
The issue with Kane is if he can beat the odds and perform at a high level after the surgery that he had. It seems few actually do come back from the specific type of surgery that Kane when through. It seems unlikely to me the Leafs can take a chance on him, but we shall see.

Is This The Real Life
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DustinBrown1989</b></div><div>Doubt the flames do that</div></div>
Tanev is a 33rd old undrafted D man who will be a UFA at the end of the year. Seems to me that 2 young former 2nd rounders might be a worth while trade, but no way they retain salary. Salary dump would be big part of this trade for Calgary and Leafs are unlikely to afford Tanev's cap hit.

Toronto needs a real centre
well its an interesting idea.
But Tavares at 33 averaging a point a game is considered to be declining and a lot of fans seem to be blaming him for all the playoff losses. Tavares is called too old and slow to play centre. I doubt many fans would be thrilled to add a 32 year old whose career year was 75 points at age 31. Giving up a 27 year old potential 50 goal scorer seems like an over pay.

If you can move Jarnkrok then I would just do a full stop there. That gives enough to fill out the team and better assess what you have. The team you start the year with is not the same team you finish with so best to go easy to start. Brodie, Timmins and even Villeneueve might prove to be useful and perhaps get a better trade later.
I also find it hard to believe Calgary would move a 28 yr old 6'6" D man who just scored 14 goals. They have gold there.

leafs wont make a trade
Timmins will never clear waivers so it is keep him or lose him entirely.
Barring injury best move is to put Holmberg down to the Marlies to keep Timmins and double shift Matthews. Push Kampf down the to the fourth line and have Matthews go every 2nd shift, if he is truly elite he can handle it.
But I do expect some type of pre-season injuries to show up so they will work something out. May not need to trade or send anyone down.

Whether you like it or not, the Leafs have a cap issue and it is going to hurt to fix it.
Leafs are limited as to who can move, and many of the players that can be moved don't have enough cap hit to make a difference.
Gregor is a downgrade from Jarnkrok, but he plays a physical game and had a history of scoring in junior. Leafs are going to have to clear cap soon and take a chance on someone.
Its either Jarnkrok or Brodie, maybe even both.

I dont understand the Domi move
Using Domi with Robertson and Reaves would certainly be a disaster.
Domi on LW with Kampf and Jarnkrok makes better sense. They can cover him on the defensive end of the game and Domi can provide some scoring and grit. Even just swapping Reaves and Jarnkrok only would be an improvement.
Timmins has too much potential to just let go, especially with Giordano turning 40 and being on retirement watch.
