Could you imagine Leafs sweep Bruins with this lineup
After 82 games Boston has won 1 more game than the Leafs. These teams have different strengths and weaknesses but neither set the league on fire this year.

Ottawa Retool
With about 5m in cap space it would be better to use it to add a quality physical D man.
I doubt Tarasenko will be around for the Sens next year, best move is to trade him now.
Also I would just stay away from signing other teams RFAs, it usually does not happen

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AEcho</b></div><div>Not really. NSH is likely asking for a 2nd minimum for Carrier. TOR is also asking NSH to take on Reaves contract, which is going to cost TOR. Reaves has negative value, not other way around it. You are tossing in Timmins who doesn't get any play time in TOR now, and won't over anyone in NSH's pipeline either, but will cover part of the cost of taking on Reaves. The 1st is the combined cost or Carrier and the rest of the cost of taking on Reaves</div></div>
Reaves would only be a 200k hit if he is loaned to the Marlies, it really is not that big a deal and the leafs don't need to pay anyone to take him. Giving up a 1st for a former 4th rental is a bit too much

I think a lot of these would depend on Markstrom and whether the Flames wanted out of his contract.
Tanev is gone so if they got a 1st and a prospect and had to retain some cap hit it would not be an issue. Not much salary is owed.
The deal presented here is not good for the Leafs. No real need to factor in Markstrom and Minten is one of the few good prospect the Leafs have. Also Tanev is not worth a 1st but Calgary might get it.

Mario
Robertson trade makes little sense, better to just send him down to the Marlies and retain a bit of depth. A 2nd and 5th would be 5 to 6 years away and even then would only have about a 40% chance of being equal to Robertson.
Markstrom or Samsonov? Sort of six of one or half dozen of the other. I can't really say the Leafs would be better off either way, so something not really worth doing.
Tanev would be a good add as we all know, but the trade as presented here likely does not work.
I think it would be a straight 1st for Tanev with 1.5m to 2m retained, to start. Calgary might want more but so far no one else has met that price. Minten is not worth giving up to rent Tanev. Dumba would likely do in place of Tanev and I think the Leafs could get him without giving up one of the few good prospects the Leafs have.

Ducks Trade
I think for the Leafs that is not a deal I would like to see happen. Maybe break it up a bit.
A 5th for Lyubuskin would be ok but he does not bring much to the Leafs.
I don't think Henrique will make that much of a difference that offsets the loss of a late 1st rounder in a draft year deep in D men.
The Leafs real need is a RD who can play with Rielly so if they are going to trade that 1st it needs to maximize the return on that RD.

I agree, but to be fair a 4th for Forbort is not a bad deal, just not a deal that makes any sense for the Avs.

I doubt the Avs would want to add 3m cap space on D. They already have a solid group and spending that 3m on a forward would make better sense.
But as a Leafs fan that 4th for Forbort looks not too bad and I am in.
I think Boqvist offers better upside than Duhaime but it is a bit of a wash right now.
Philly is in the playoff hunt after a long absence so I really can't see them trading their better players. I think their fans would get very upset.

What Id like to see
Brodie has not been working out too well with Rielly this year so I think whomever they acquire needs to take his place.
Interestingly Brodie and Liljregren seemed to have worked out not too badly in the last two games.
Oleksiak would be a decent add, hard to know what it would take. Could he play with Rielly?
I think your trade offer is a bit light but knowing what to offer is difficult.
Gio still has some to give and he is ok as a 7th D, certainly better than Lagesson.

Nothing wrong with Parayko and 30 is not old for a D man, he will be at his peak for another 4 or 5 years. Blues are not going to trade him anyway.
1.5 m for Martin? No. Murray would be a better bet and he may take 1.5m. Don't think I would go above that for him and perhaps start with a lower offer.
Rest of the stuff is 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

still have futures and a way better blue line
The Blues are now solidly in the playoff hunt so they are not trading their best players.
No need to trade Lagesson, just put him on waivers and send him down to the Marlies if he clears.
You would have to give something to Minnesota if you want them to take on Kampf's contract. No knock on Kampf but he does not provide value to them at his point in time.
Calgary is looking for a 2nd rounder, and Hirvonen, Niemela and a 5th are not of equal value. Niemela shows some promise but he is a long way away yet.
Liljregren is just coming into his own now, no to any trade.

What Id do as a result of that BOS game no trades Just lines
Timmins is not coming back anytime soon. McCabe is out for at least 2 more games.
Your 3rd pairing choices are now Benoit, Kokkonen, Neimela, Villeneuve and Lajoe, none of which are appealing.
I do think Reaves is now too much of a defensive liability to play and needs to be bounced out of the lineup or very limited play. Scratching Bertuzzi makes no sense at all.
Leafs are going to have to make some very hard decisions very soon. They cannot weather this storm. They need to add at least one quality D and they dont have it on the farm.

Going by what the Leafs are signalling I think Robertson is heading to the Marlies and Minten back to the WHL. Minten is close but I think the Leafs will blink.

Seems like a very high price for an undersized D man for a team that is looking to get bigger and more physical. Actually it makes no sense at all.
And I might add Niemeli is also undersized and would like be ok as a 3rd pairing D.

Leafs don't have the luxury of carrying 3 goalies, so that is not going to happen.
At this point it looks like Jarnkrok is going to stick around so Holmberg and Robertson will be sent down.

Absolutely, and 32nd pick today is now a first rounder.
Pinto would be a steal for a late first rounder who is 5 years away from the NHL. Pinto is here and ready. I think he can be a 30+ goal scorer.

<em>I would do that deal for Pinto. A 6'3" 22 year old who just scored 20 in his first year. Absolutely. Pinto is a solid 3C with 2C potential. Chances of drafting a player like that with a very late first rounder are 50-50 at best.</em>

Trying to Compete without Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoSeider53</b></div><div>Carolina isn't trading Pesce anymore, And that offer isn't even close to getting him out of Carolina.
Patrick Kane declines, He's not signing that cheaply.
Good luck with Dube and Lindholm, With those 2 you might as well keep Nylander. As Lindholm is easily going to get 7-8 years $9,000,000 per.</div></div>
Actually Kane can sign a +35 contract in November and sign a league minimum contract with bonus incentives that don't count agains the cap this year. So a 775k cap hit and say 2m bonus for 20 goals and 2 m bonus for 40 points. But that 4m would have to count against next years cap.
Signing Kane is actually quite doable for the Leafs, provided they can live the the cap implications next year.
As for Pesce, no contending team is going to trade an elite D man right now. What the Leafs have now is as good as it will get until after New Year's.
