Ottawa Retool

Created by: BiasSensFan
Team: 2024-25 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 6, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just looking for thoughts here. In this scenario, Ottawa finds a way to extend Tarasenko (because he's been pretty great for them this season). They retool by getting veteran presence, solidifying/balancing the goaltending and getting new players into the prospect pool. They move on from Forsberg, and trade him to a team that could use him (I'm aware Toronto might not be the ideal spot, but this was more to see what his value is, in my eyes they could get a 4th, but due to injury a 5th would do). Just curious on the thoughts here.

With about 5m in cap space it would be better to use it to add a quality physical D man.
I doubt Tarasenko will be around for the Sens next year, best move is to trade him now.
Also I would just stay away from signing other teams RFAs, it usually does not happen

Honestly don't fully disagree, but we can also agree he's been pretty great this season. I don't really think D has been our biggest issue, but maybe just signing a cheap physical d man for our bottom line would help out. However I do really like Tarasenko, and I see him as a great vet to take this team to the promise land.

This is not a retool, this is a touch up.

A retool means you make a few trades to shake up the core without going into a full rebuild.

Fair enough, could have added in a few extra trades there.

leafs are already carrying 3 goalies on roster so no real reason to do this

Yeah that's why I mentioned in the description that it didn't really matter about what team got him, was more just to prove what I thought his value was. Thanks for noting that however!
