of course they can. All the callups are waiver exempt so they can callup and send down Barabanov, Korskov, Robertson, Sandin, Liljegren, Lehtonen, J Anderson, etc.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ElPhantasmo</b></div><div>No, it really wouldn't. From a purely financial perspective, this is a disastrous trade for Calgary. Assuming Kerfoot and Bennett are rough equivalents, why would the Flames be willing to take on an additional million in contract for a milder version of Bennett? Not to mention almost double the dollars over and above Rittich for an older goalie with a year left who posted numbers that, although slightly better, simply don't make sense to trade for. That's why this trade will never happen and that's why the Flames would reject both players for Bennett outright.
are you referring to the same SAM BENNETT that cannot score 30pts in an NHL season. get real he is completely devoid of offence.
SAM BENNET is trash. I'm just trying to make the salaries work.
I'm so glad you think so, now please help me convince TML fans to move along in proposing someone other than Bennett.</div></div>

Habs have NOTHING. Johnsson has played with Matthews and Tavares and contributed well. He gets no PP time. With added minutes he will be a valuable contributor and hes signed for cheap. this isn't a cap dump.

Unless a player is out for the season for sure no GM is going to gamble on strapping their team cap wise. Imagine the Leafs dopes if Rielly and Ceci come back and they have to lose a player for cap reasons, they would lose their collective mind and call for Dubas’s head. It makes no sense. It’s the same way the Oilers and Flames are going to be quiet. It’s doesn’t make sense to spend outside your means.</div></div>

NO NHL team operates with 86k in cap space. That literally leads you with no call up space for short term injured players who cannot go on LTIR.

there are a lot of options but at the end of the day Leafs have money and that opens up more doors for them.

yes money comes back, but what if its Eaves who played 3 games all year and is on LTIR. What is the Leafs take on that contract (eaves 3M) for Marleau (who is owed 1.5M after July1 signing bonus) and the Leafs put Eaves on LTIR.
Then the Leafs recoupe all of Marleau's cap hit NO?

Maple Leafs AFTER trade requests
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>LeBrun said if the Kings made a deal to get Marleau, they'd need to send money back and it would likely be someone with term to help LA in a few years when they're up against the cap. To me, that means a guy like Kovalchuk, Brown, or Carter who all have a smaller cap hit in the upcoming year and help the Leafs short term. I doubt the Kings send back an expiring deal with a smaller cap hit unless the Leafs sweeten the pot with a pick or 2 (like Orpik's trade to the Avs). Toffoli will have value for the Kings as a trade deadline rental, so I think your values are off given comparable past deals. Someone will give the Kings a 2nd or 3rd for Toffoli without a bad contract coming back.
And this all is a moot discussion if Marleau refuses to waive, which no one credible has indicated he has said he would. GMs talk potential trades all the time and sometimes players box those deals like Kessel did with the trade Pittsburg and Minnesota negotiated.</div></div>
The kings wont have cap problems down the road as they will be rebuilding.

yes, but 2.1M and 3+ are HUGE gaps. Considering Johnsson will not be signing a long term deal, ie 5 years or more, the money will be low. Leafs are not buying UFA years.

Marleau can be bought out for $450k, but teams can hold onto the 6.25mill cap hit for cap reasons. LOTS of teams want a contract like this. Its costs only $450k but it gets you a asset.
