<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>allendeunico</b></div><div>LoovTrain I like your approach attacking STL weakness, they have around 5M cap left with 3 roster spots pending which all are RFA arbitration eligible. I think with 5M offer for Parayko already give STL great trouble to match, would require them to trade away a veteran with big contract and still 2 RFA to sign...7.5M I think is too much and would be highest paid player on the roster. I agree the lad looks good, he is big body, played 2nd pair PK and PP with good production, Righty which we have a great need and he is young and could stick around for long time.
Then you trade JVR to get some picks back and 4th line C
If you look at the moves separately the Parayko one could be possible if Lou/Shanahan and Babs also see him as big piece for the future taking in consideration the high price in picks, and balance with the fact that we have nobody in the system as RHD to step up in near future.
But the trade of JVR just to compensate the picks I don't see it happening just because Lou had said that the veterans on the team are here for a reason, Babs said he see JVR with more upside and it looks like an extension could be happening if the terms are cap friendly.
JVR I think is very underrated in general by Leafs fans, he is special LW who gets in the net screening and has the softer hands at close range maybe as good as Matthews. This season 62pts 2nd on the team, 9th overal LW in pts NHL beign 46th in TOI. Last 4 seasons he leads the team with 208pts and is 15th LW in pts in all NHL. To replace him with Andreas Johnsson who is a prospect who has only played one year with Marlies IMO is a big shot.</div></div>

Thanks for your feedback.

I don't think 5 mill for Parayko gets the Blues to walk away. My point was to get Parayko and I think somewhere in between 6.5 and 7.5 is the magic number.

In regards to the JVR trade, I obviously value JVR less and Cizikas more than you do. There are not many realistic scenarios under which I would re-sign JVR. The list of teams that would need a JVR at his particular contract situation isn't very large. I just don't see that big a market for him. Are we getting full-value for JVR in this trade? Probably not if he re-signs with the Isles. But based on the Parayko scenario this trade helps us recoup picks for what is supposed to be a great draft and gives us a C who can play in the 3/4 spot and kill penalties (something we don't have at the NHL or AHL level) and sets us up a little better for the inevitable moving on from Tyler Bozak and the transition of Nylander to C.

In regards to Johnsson/Kapanen replacing JVR + Hyman's production, I believe that is entirely reasonable. Brown scored 20 last season, there is no reason for me to think that those two couldn't do similar playing with the Trinity. I think Kapanen could do more than 20 tbh and Johnsson would be right around 20 imo getting constant sweet feeds from the Mitchician. They are also better 200' players than JVR, which also needs to be considered.

Not that I think any of this is realistic mind you... just trying to think outside the box.
