It’s a fair point. I’ll replace him with Doherty, who I thought would be the next Adam McQuaid (which isn’t amazing but yea)

They have some big misses too, Mueller, Goldobin, Petrecki, Roy and Wrenn among them.

BOTTS MAKE IT HAPPEN
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>Yeah I agree with you; but Doug Wilson has painted himself into a corner with the contracts he's handed out, and there's no point doing half-measures at this stage and treading water for a few years. Either go all-in on a rebuild, or commit to making the team as good as you can right now.</div></div>
Wilson has already stated he intends to compete next year and be back in the playoffs. He said he will address the forwards and goaltending this offseason and moving Hertl is not going to happen for a team that wants to make the playoffs. Hertl is our second best player and probably the most popular player in SJ.

Dude stop with the lowball offers for Hertl. It isn’t going to happen. If any team wants him it will be an overpayment because Wilson has no intention to move him. He’s not on the block and I don’t see Hertl being on the block any time soon.

His defensive game needs a lot of work. McLellan doesn’t enjoy one dimensional players at all, just ask Nikolay Goldobin.

Kuraly, Coyle, Bonino and Balcers never played for the Sharks. Just drafted. Kuraly was part of trade for Jones, Bonino was swapped for Moen, Huskins. Coyle for Burns we all know and Balcers in a trade that we won’t be discussing.

Goalie trades NYR and SJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>I agree that you can get a better deal trade-wise with St Louis for Allen, but keep in mind that his caphit is $1m higher than Grubauer which will make a big difference in your ability to ice a competitive roster (eg. resigning Labanc).
Jost is far from a bust. He's the 9th highest scoring 10th overall pick in the last 25 years (0.35ppg), and even a modest bump up to 0.5ppg would see him ranked 5th. He's been really good in stretches, like against San Jose in the playoffs, or after the deadline this year (7 points in 9 games) and is still only 22 so it's way too early to write him off. He's definitely at least a 3rd liner at this stage, with plenty of room to improve.</div></div>
Sure he has potential but that clearly hasn’t translated yet. When his potential begins to translate to the nhl game I will happily adjust my opinion. Labanc will be a relatively cheap re-sign in the realm of 3.5-4mil, this was his prove it season and he had a stutter. If this Grubauer trade actually transpired, I would be far from upset, he’s a very good goaltender but it’s not my preference to move two very valuable picks.

Goalie trades NYR and SJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>Fair enough if you want to pass. But the price for Georgiev here isn't "almost nothing". Jost and Zadorov each have a value of about a 2nd + 3rd (so 2 2nds and 2 3rds total). With NYR sending back a 3rd they are effectively getting 2 2nd's and a 3rd for a goalie who's never played over 34 games. Compared to that 2 2nd's for a proven starter seems reasonable.</div></div>
Zadorov maybe but not Jost, Jost is clearly a bust as a 10th overall pick. I wouldn’t pay more than a 4th for Jost and that’s the absolute maximum. Despite what you’ve seen on capfriendly I’m not overly excited about Zad or Jost in any real way. Grubauer is a good goalie. You just need to understand how bare the cupboards are in SJ, we need those picks more than we need Grubauer. We can likely get a much more favorable deal with STL for Allen.

I like Greiss and Khudobin. Both will be cheaper. Greiss began his career here and can still put up strong numbers. Don’t get me wrong I like Grubauer but we need these picks worse.

Let me make this simple. SJ is not trading Hertl unless it’s an overpayment. They are not rebuilding, they intend to compete next year. So, you accept. SJ does not. I personally would not accept. Hertl is worth much more than this.
