Steel is the Duck's only center prospect. No way they trade him. I also don't think he'd be the cost for Pacioretty. IMO, a Kessel trade is a close comparable. Kessel got a first, B+ prospect, but the Leafs retained AND gave up a second. So, I'd think a B center prospect+1st for Pacioretty is the cost. Might be a lowball, but I'm just looking at comparables. You guys don't HAVE to trade Pacioretty <em>and a team doesn't HAVE to trade for Pacioretty.</em>

I don't think the Ducks want to give up a top prospect plus a first for a UFA.

I really don’t like the horqnvist extension
Anyways, for the OP, I love it. Look at comparables: Andrew Ladd got more term AND more AAV. There are others, but seriously? You don't like it because it's too much term for his style? Hornqvist is one of the best in shape players in the league. Also, a comparable to Hornqvist is Holmstrom, and Holmstrom played effectively until age 37, with 45 points in 68 games. Hornqvist has a lot of intangibles. Hard worker, Heart and sole, in shape, handeye, etc.

Offseason Moves
I think the Sheary deal depends on how much Edmonton values him. Sheary is at an all time low value wise and probably costs only a third at the draft right now. I’d like him to hit his stride before playoffs and then trade him for the kind of package you did. But, right now, Sheary doesn’t have that value.
Hall is a bad prospect. I’ve watched him play multiple times and he’s bad. I don’t think Arizona wants him as their main prospect coming back, plus they are stacked on LD with Hjalmarsson, OEL, Chyrchrun, and potentially Dahlin. A second round pick doesn’t have high value considering other parts in the deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>I don't think either team really wants the Saad Trade. Neither CHI or PIT. PIT needs to keep churning young talent on ELCs because they're up against the cap and can't keep signing $3M contracts to guys that have to play next to Crosby in order to play well. The Blackhawks just don't want Sheary. The Blackhawks also aren't eating $3M in cap on Saad. Miletic has had a nice year, but HARDLY a sure thing. Play Miletic next to Crosby and then just like people trying to trade Sprong...you can try to trade Miletic.</div></div>
You're crazy if you think Pittsburgh doesn't do that trade.

Next season with 3 mill cap increase
I'd just keep Hunwick if we have to give up Sprong to trade him. That second round pick has no value to me since we are trying to win. Rust will get ~3m and Oleksiak will get ~2.5m IMO. Jarry deal is around the right number. Sheahan will get atleast 2.075m, due to the RFA status he has. He can only receive fewer than 2.075m from us if we DON'T qualify him for RFA status.

Lineup i would try
Brassard should develop into a center here. Rust is injured. Hunwick instead of Oleksiak, really?
I'd go:
Sheary-Crosby-Hornqvist
Hagelin-Malkin-Rust
Guentzel-Brassard-Kessel
ZAR-Sheahan-Jooris
Dumoulin-Letang
Oleksiak-Schultz
Maatta-Ruhwedel
That's when healthy, of course. For right now:
Guentzel-Crosby-Sheary
Hagelin-Malkin-Hornqvist
Sheahan-Brassard-Kessel
Kuhnhackl-Jooris-Rowney
Dumoulin-Letang
Oleksiak-Schultz
Maatta-Ruhwedel

Your point? Dumoulin is best defenseman on the team positionally. Our defensive system is just bad.
Yes, Sprong should be called up. But he isn’t going to be. Sullivan and co doesn’t seem to be keen about him.

Oleksiak-Letang would be bad. They both pinch a lot and are out of position a lot. Oleksiak and Letang need partners who are very good positionally, like Dumoulin and Cole[:(]
Sprong SHOULD be called up. Sprong WON’T be called up. There’s a difference.

Sprong won’t be getting recalled. Maatta-Schultz was a disaster. Demoting Dumoulin makes no sense. Brassard needs some jump, so let’s see him and Sid.

If you guys end up trading ROR, you better get a center in return OR be pretty damn confident that Reinhart can fill in at center. In this scenario, you get drastically worse at center while picking up an aging goalie on a bad contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Toddyd77</b></div><div>I don't see why the Habs would retain on Benn when we are trying to dump hunwick.
I don't think SImon has earned over 1 mil yet. Probably flip Jarry's and his contract.
If Sprong isn't going to get a legit **** at playing in our top 9 next season probably best to trade him but I would want someone a little more established than Domi that can consistently play with Sid. I know he was a first round pick but he has declined since his rookie year. Sid deserves to get some decent linemates that don't get shuffled all the time.</div></div>
Domi is the best available wing for us to target IMO. Pacioretty and Hoffman have one year left and would cost more than Domi. Jarry doesn't have Arbitration rights, so check out Grubauer's contract history.
