The Flames are not going scorched earth. If we are going to move Andersson, or Weegar, it would be for a young C with 1st line potential.

Where do you get the ask is a 2nd? It's been rumored for a while that the Canucks offered a 2nd and a prospect to add Tanev to the Lindholm deal but the Flames held off hoping to get a 1st

Do I want to give up a first for Tanev? No. But I can see it happening. This package is too rich...but maybe Tanev + some depth piece.
Or something like a 1st + 4th + ahl player for Tanev + 3rd
Hopefully treliving has a solid understanding of what Tanev wants on an extension...if that's not something he wants to commit to, I don't think he should give up a first for a rental.</div></div>If something between the 2 teams happens, I suspect it will be Tanev @ 50% for a 1st and a small amount of cap (around 1m), which may be Timmins as his salary fits and Tanev would push him further down in the depth chart.

I don't know how someone can't grasp that Tanev is exactly what the Leafs need.
The Leafs need to reduce scoring chances, limit shots on goal, and improve their PK. Tanev would not only do all that for the Leaf, he'd do it slotting in next to Reilly, who has been on the ice for more ES goals against than any other defenseman on a playoff team. Tanev makes everyone he plays with better, Reilly would be a beast next to Tanev.

Huberdeau is better than Meier.
I don't want to trade Markstrom, I think he's more valuable as a mentor to Wolf.
I would prefer to try and get a center in a Hanifin deal, like Bourque from Dallas or someone of that nature.

Zero chance. Gaudreau started poorly but he now has close to double the points Meier has.
Devils are better off waiting until next year and see if Timo bounces back, because at his contract and level of play, he's not getting a good return.

Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MwyNyamBabyYoda</b></div><div>Honestly I like your trade too, I was thinking about adding hanafin but I think that’s too much. The stars don’t really need to much more forward depth, I’d gladly have Aj Greer as a 13th forward. But otherwise, Blumel and Karlstrom have both played nhl games and Stankoven and Bourque could easily slot into the lineup if injuries happen. If that makes sense. The only thing I’d do is swap kyrou out for damani or blumel, the stars have no real defensive prospects other than Bichsel and Kyrou. They have a lot of forward prospect though. I’m also not a flames fan so I don’t know what they’d want for the future.</div></div>I mostly picked Kyrou because he was a step below the big prospects, but better than Blumel/Damiani... that said I wouldn't be upset over Damiani
Hanifin would definitely cost more, I'd guess probably a 1st and Bourque, or a 1st, Bichsel and another prospect/pick

Thinking about the Tanev offer a but more, and as a Flames fan I love the possibility of an overpay, but I'm not sure how realistic it is. As the possibility of a massive overpay is there, and you also strip the team of depth.
I'm going to counter with something I think is more realistic. based on your proposal while adding depth.
<strong>to Dallas:</strong>
- Chris Tanev @ 50% (2,250,000 - UFA '24)
- AJ Greer (762,500 - UFA '24)
- Keven Rooney (1,300,000 - UFA '24)
- Dennis Gilbert (752,500 - UFA '24)
<strong>to Calgary:</strong>
- Christian Kyrou (878,333 - RFA '26
- Radek Faksa (3,250,000 - UFA '25)
- Joel Hanley (787,500 - UFA '25)
- 1st in 2024
- Cond. 5th in 2025 becomes 3rd if Dallas reaches 2024 WCF
If my math is correct, this would keep Dallas under the cap, as well as give them a couple depth forwards, while we swap depth defensemen giving us one that has an additional year since we're potentially moving so many bodies. I know it's more risk for Dallas if they don't reach the WCF, but significantly less if they win the Cup, which I believe you have a real chance at doing.

We'll get either a 1st, 2 x 2nds or a 2nd + B prospect for Tanev</div></div>
It's only a big overpay if they win, but if they win, do they care? If they don't get out of round 2, it's not really an overpay.
The way I read this is:
Round 1 or 2 elimination: 2 x 2nd, 5th, Prospect, Faksa and Hakanpaa
Round 3 elimination: 1st, 2nd, 5th, Prospect, Faksa and Hakanpaa
Finals elimination: 2x 1st, 5th, Prospect, Faksa and Hakanpaa
Win Cup: 2 x 1st, 3rd, Prospect, Faksa and Hakanpaa

"late 1st" maybe, but that's all you're getting at the deadline. Obviously you ask for permission to speak to Behrens before you include him in a deal, frankly I don't buy into this paranoia about American players, lots of players have major injuries and all deals like this require players to do a physical.

No we wouldn't consider adding Hanifin.
You are right about Tanev though, a 1st for Tanev may be enough, but I don't think Dellandrea has as much value as you think. He's 23 now and hasn't shown much in the NHL. He's very much a reclamation project at this point in time and not the top prospect he used to be.

1. We're retaining 2.75m
2. Your cap dump is owed 7.2m after this season... keep in mind that a significantly better player in Monahan had just 6m owing on his contract and it took a 1st to dump him.
3. Kuzmenko scored 39 last year, even if it is only an outside shot of him doing it again; it's worth it because if he can score at close to that pace next year, maybe he brings in a 1st or multiple 2nds at next years deadline.
So, you want us to eat basically 10m in salary over the next 3 seasons... I'm sorry but that alone would cost you a 1st+... nevermind giving up the potential of a better return on Kuz
Basically you're putting garnish around a **** sandwich and expect us to still eat it

I don't know if Conroy has an interest in a player like Mikheyev.</div></div>None of us do. I was just suggesting a scenario where it might be possible. As it stands the Flames don't really have room for more wingers, especially one with term, unless it's a legitimate first liner. We're already using Sarangovich at center, Pelletier is day-to-day, Coronato is in the AHL and Greer should be back relatively soon, which will probably push Duehr back to the AHL.
