Is it just me or does it seem like everyone suddenly wants to trade Colton? I don't get it.

Yeah, the dead cap is crazy. And several of the UFAs on the list are set to make much more than what's projected here.

Moving down in 1st round
COL is trying to win now. Why would they essentially make lateral moves on swapping D-men and picks with NJ or a defecit move in losing Colton for a 2025 pick that won't help them?

While COL might be tempted due to the cap space it opens up, it also opens up too big a hole on D that they'd need to fill. Ultimately, I don't think they move Manson.

As for the ACGM, I think there are a lot of options that aren't <em>that</em> bad for the Avs overall, but it's so hard to replace Val as his presence on the ice boosts their win % so much. It would be great to see what can happen if the team has some relative consistency in lineup for a season. The Avs have really had to move people around the lineup to fill some big holes the last two seasons. The group is talented enough to make it work with just about anyone, but not if they're shifting people all over the place because they have to fill holes. Ideally, they're shifting to find best fits, but they really haven't been able to do that lately.

Evan Rawal from CHN is sharing the details today on X/Twitter. Seems like some kind of general publicity league in Russia, but it's seems confirmed that Val is playing this summer. Don't think the NHL or Avs can prevent it even if they wanted to.

Sorry. More wondering if anyone knows why he had the dip in production.

I think plenty of teams would be willing to take a chance on Val if he indeed gets reinstated. For his production, he's on a great contract. What that costs the Avs is the question. They almost certainly get a return of little value. If I'm an interested team, I'm asking for retention, too.

Just the major trades
Would love to get Sissons, but Nashville would just be stupid to let him go unless the package is way better. I wouldn't have a big problem bringing Duchene back, but he can chase a cup with Dallas and there's not a super compelling case for him to jump to another team unless I'm unaware of dynamics in Dallas that prevent his return.
I think Mitts will be a great fit in COL and I don't know why but the team just plays better with Sammy that I think it would be a mistake to move him. If anything, sell high on Manson first, even though he's been great for COL. ANA would take him back and it might be the one place he'd go.

Why trade Mikko and his three consistent years of near or above 100 points for a guy whose personal best is 83?
Why trade Sammy, who demonstrated again this year that the team just plays better with him on the ice, for a guy who essentially brings the same production for the same cost at the same age?

Might want to spend a little more to retain Sherwood. He fit really well with McCarron and Smith. Betting some teams have noticed and will offer more than $1.25M

Offseason 2024
Can't see Wood going anywhere. Bednar loves it when he knows what he's going to get from guys. Wood is pretty consistent in terms of production and style of play each night. He's not expensive.
I could see them taking a run at Arvidsson, IF he's at that price point, but I'm guessing teams will pay a little more given that he's only a season removed from two years of 50-60 points.
I don't think they repeat with Jost.

Utah has a strong core and Crouse is a big part of that. They'll be looking to build more depth now in order to win early in the new location. Can't see them moving key guys.

Probably Horrible But I mean what can we do
I'm starting to also wonder how attractive COL will be for FAs that aren't league minimum journeymen. If the selling point is "hey, come play for the Avs, at least until we have to dump you when Val or Landy comes back" then I don't know who would want to take that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pants_Wearer</b></div><div>I like the idea, but Val will count against the cap to start the season. Need to add him as a scratch or on IR. This lineup is ~6 mil over the cap as is.</div></div>
Val is eligible to come back Nov 15 and that's the earliest if he gets reinstated. His cap only kicks in when he gets back. Still, if he and Landy come back, that's a lot of players they have to dump. Players will know the situation and wonder if that is going to happen to them, so getting any free agents other than league minimum guys might be a challenge for COL.
I can't imagine CAR letting Chatfield walk and Duhaime isn't likely to sign for less than he made this season.

Mittelstadt, Duclair, and Zadorov will get more. Drouin is likely in that range. What happens if/when Val is reinstated and his cap hit comes back, though?

Maybe if COL is open to having Val back. Things could change given how goood of a player he is, but if the Avs are ready to move on from him, why wouldn't they take a deal like this?

Possibility - Val seeks help in Russia
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swissmontana</b></div><div>i don't think his NMC is the first concern here. For one, i don't know if you can loan a player like this.
but if you can, and if the cap doesn't count against you, I still feel like the NHL would make sure Nuke was not eligible to come back for the playoffs in that same season. It makes Vegas' cap circumvention look like nothing.
IF and only IF any of that is true, then yes, I guess Nuke could waive his NMC to play abroad.</div></div>
Agreed. I was thinking more along the lines of him being loaned until a longer-term solution was found. Even if the NHL allows Val to come back for the playoffs, it sounds like the locker room has moved on.
