Best player on the ice?
Stutzle and Sanderson off Ottawa looked the best. No doubt Nylander has talent but no heart and no drive. I personally wouldn’t miss him. 👋

Willy looked like Willy. Looked good in open space but no drive along the boards. Takes his sweet time every time he goes for a line change. On the 5 on 3 power play for the Leafs. Sens killed 30 seconds in the boards with Willy just being pinned with no effort. I’d be happy to see him traded for a D. Body language is huge in all aspects of life. His Willy nilly(no pun intended) attitude with lack lustre effort drives me crazy. It wears off on his teammates. I know everyone is going to say well, it’s preseason but he has the same effort whether it’s playoffs or preseason. Hard to win with leaders like that.

I agree with that, also if the Leafs trade Nylander there should be a top 4D coming back in the deal.IMO

Leafs - Jets
I think the Leafs have to add a bit here. Scheifele arguably has more value than Nylander being a C, Helle is better than Sammy and Dillon is way more of an asset right now than Timmins. Plus retention and giving away a second. I think you need to add Lily or a top prospect here with that 1st rd pick, especially with retaining salary.

We don’t need his 20 goals. We covered that by getting Bertuzzi and Domi. We need a good checker to play in a shut down role. I personally think Steeves/Holmberg/McMann could battle for the spot. Cowan knocking on the door next year. Even Gregor could challenge that spot.

Oh I think he is. We could actually go with a 21 man roster if we got rid of him. We have Marlies that have been developing there for years that can step up and take his job for half the salary.

One small trade and lines with Willy at 3C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>It happens though eh? I am not excusing any of the losses but I also don't think blowing anything up is the answer. Toughness bla bla bla or whatever is all just stuff people say and the media blows it all up.</div></div>
IMO toughness comes in different forms. You can add toughness by hiring a Ryan Reaves. The toughness the Leafs need is guys that are willing to go in the corner, take punishment in front of the net and stick up for your teammates when need be. That’s why I am very happy with the Domi & Bertuzzi signing. We just need one or two of those guys on the backend.

I agree. I personally believe a top team should be built from the Goalie/Defence out. Leafs kind of built around their offence only allowing limited cap space for quality D!

In my defence, I was running out of players to use by the time I got to Byrum.lol. He is a solid D and would love for the Leafs to get their hands on him if that D core becomes too expensive.

Willy for Pesce 1 for 1? I like the trade but feel Car would have to add a draft pick/prospect. But I’m a Leafs fan so maybe I’m biased.

I don’t know. Lily has come along pretty good, age 24 with a 1.4M cap hit. Leafs would have to get ANH to retain salary and give draft picks/or a prospect to them. Would open up a lot of cap space for the canes. How much more would have to offered to be fair?

Looking good. Nervous about Willy at C though. 😳. I personally would rather see Robertson in the lineup over Jarnkrok. Maybe they can move Jarnkrok for a draft pick for some cap relief.

They had loads of in close chances vs florida but didn't score. Bad luck was a problem. But the coach never alters his game plan either which is a problem.</div></div>
I don’t know Nasty. I’m kinda sick of saying bad luck. Price was bad luck, running into Tampa first round continually was bad luck, now Bobrovsky? I’d love to see the facts but Torontos issue has been winning battles in the gritty areas. (Dubas era)

He's capable of it, but doesn't do it all the time. He also gets so unlucky in the playoffs. Guy hit the post 5 times vs Florida. You couldn't do that if you tried.</div></div>
100% agree with Matthews driving the net. The problem with the Leafs is they are a perimeter team with not many players willing to get to those tough areas. Hopefully Bert, Domi and Reavo will give the big guys more confidence to drive the net more often. Nervous about the D but excited for this year to start. 👍

You are a little over dramatic Herb. Jarnkrok doesn’t fit in the lineup and we need that cap savings. Niemela is a small offensive D. Don’t see him fitting on the Leafs anytime soon.

Once in a while 6th rounders make it. Holmberg played some games last year and looked pretty good. If I was a Flyers fan I wouldn’t want to trade Tippett either at 1.5M but he is do for a pretty decent raise if he comes close to the year he has last year. Leafs probably couldn’t afford to keep him anyway unless he outperforms Bertuzzi or Domi.
