Eliotte Friedman <a href="https://www.sportsnet.ca/podcasts/32-thoughts/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">32T</a>:
"The word on New Jersey is they want to take a big swing. They want to see if there is a big swing they can take out there. Obviously, John Cooper and/or Mike Sullivan would be as big of a swing as you can take, and Craig Berube is obviously right there, as I previously mentioned."

Shark Week 1st Mock Roster 2024-2025
Zadorov $5m x 5 is tough one to swallow. I would say $3.75m x 3 or $4m x 2
And if we are adding picks to Holtz for Markstrom, we are likely getting retention there.
Between those two, ought to be another $3m+ to spend on another player.

Maybe Lacombe is pryable from the Ducks. And RyJo appears on outside-looking-in with Sabres. Leafs do. Appear to be signing Mike Koster.
Gophers know dmen.
Lacombe - Faber
Johnson - Chesley
Koster - Rinzel

Could be solid NHL blueline someday

Also, Gostisbehere is probably not a target for us, as we get plenty of offense out of our dmen already. Need a clean-passing, LHD who defends well with his skating.

Doing All 32 Teams Realistic Offseasons Devils
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>youngmoney</b></div><div>i get a lot of hate for certain trades/contracts (im not calling you out) but im just doing what I realistically think will happen for each team. sometimes i miss value contracts (say mercer 4 yrs) because im not super tuned into each team. trying to get 32 teams down is a lot but if i do this series later on ill definitely think it out a bit more</div></div>
The Devils and Flames got deep into Markstrom talks during the season. According to multiple writers, it went as far as Calgary asking him to waive his NTC and he agreed. The reported price was Alex Holtz for Markstrom with about one-quarter to one-third if his salary retained ($1.5m to $2m). While GM Conroy approved it, Flames ownership nixed the deal. Since then, his game fell off considerably (I guess one could expect as they dealt away Zadorov, Tanev and Hanifin). He also blocked a trade to Los Angeles. And obviously now there are two years, not three, remaining on deal.
So even if Markstrom’s value was the same this summer as it would have been in February…one would have to view the price for Mangiapane as worth the balance of the package. And one would have to believe Palat would waive his NTC.
I think another deal that Flames fans have liked is using Markstrom to move up from Vancouver 1st to New Jersey 1st (with some other pieces attached).

Reasoning for my top 16 rankings
Good list. It’s hard to measure a high-floor defensive dman vs an undersized scoring winger vs an upside offensive dman…almost should be two lists. One for if everyone hits their ceiling…another for if everyone hits their most probable outcome.

Thanks for doing a Devils ACGM…but trade is rough for NJD. And Mercer should sign a bridge or long-term, but not 4 years (which takes him straight to UFA).

Sigenthaler alone would probably be too much. Take out Seigs, Wotherspoon and 2nd…and it is possible if Ullmark extends.

The gap between Rossi and (no one) is probably larger than Guhle and Hunt over the long run.
But that makes sense. I think Morgan Frost would give most of what Rossi could…and is likely cheaper.

If we were to trade Marner to where
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeynutter</b></div><div>Once again if Montour signs at 6.5 it will be with the Panthers. Peace by many experts have predicted his salary to be around the 7 million mark. Zadorov is not worth 4 million for what he would provide. He would be identical to Edmundson. Roy is expected to get 6+ million by most experts. At 5 million he resigns with LA. And also as was written who replaced the offense lost from Marner. Getting a rid of Marner will have a huge ripple effect on Nylander and Matthews because Tavares can no longer carry play as well. He can still be good for 60 to 70 points but needs talent on the line to get to that. Losing Marner means we need Matthews and Nylander and who replaces Marner and his 95+ plus. In half of his years he has average 95 points and in all those years, he was injured for a couple games at least. If he played them he was pacing over 100 points. We need to also consider the offense lost by getting a rid of Marner.</div></div>
Are you playing to score or playing to win?

If Holtz is playing in top-6…he definitely should be on Left side. And all else equal, I might put him with right-handed center, maybe Poitras.

Devils probably have zero interest. We have other pressing needs…and it’s “more of the same” as Fitzy has often discussed. We need a veteran dman, a goalie, 3C, maybe a couple 4th liners.
