However, Zegras + Luneau is much better than Holtz + Casey, and we already have Zegras + Luneau</div></div>
Luneau wasn’t part of it….was just Holtz, Casey for Zegras. It was more of impulse trade…don’t think NJD would be bidders on Z.

NJ gets their wish Marky 50 retained
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Element23VM</b></div><div>To be fair, peak value is offseason at the draft where teams have salary flexibility (ie, more capable offers). What killed the Devils trying to get him was retainment. I'm guessing the offer was Vanecek, a conditional first and a B prospect (like Graeme Clarke) and for Markstrom 2M retained.</div></div>
By the time Conroy agreed and got the player to waive NTC, it was just Holtz for Markstrom ($2 million retained). No picks, no Vanecek (both were discussed in earlier iterations) .

Wasn’t holding my breathe, to be honest. But say Verbeek say those two pieces (righty F, RD)….although Holtz is more of LW when playing offensive situations.
(But Casey>Luneau)

Zegras
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>Holtz is weaker than Zegras off the puck, and doesn't put up the offense to justify that.
Casey is a good prospect but we have more than enough undersized puck moving D.
Pat is looking for a top 6 RW and a top 4 RHD, neither of these players reliably project to be those at this point.
One does not acquire a Zegras with pieces one can easily afford to loose.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GeneralLandro</b></div><div>Holtz feels mighty underwhelming and Casey probably isn’t an upgrade over Luneau so I don’t see why Verbeek would think twice on this one</div></div>
If it feels underwhelming to you, imagine being a Devils fan…it’s infuriating.
The offensive talent is all there, which makes it so much harder. If he were just a straight bust, it would probably be easier on Devils fans. But he played 82 games...almost exclusively on 4th line….and every brilliant moment was followed by some stupid neutral zone turnover.

Dcore is still too inexperience and you brought back Miller why? you know there are better options right? You made the devils so much weaker and younger. Guess you love watching them get pushed around. Teddy over Duhaime and you didnt bother to keep dermy? tf is wrong with you SPEED ISNT EVERYTHING.</div></div>
Here you go again fella guess you want to panic and sell both Hughes brothers for some grit again but we will never score again good idea but it’s not to sell Bratt for more toughness and don’t even mention the coach why do you live Travis Green so much guess you love him you knows have other options why are you panicking and desperate to get Blackwood back he is toast we can find better goalies guess you love watching devils getting scored on

Couple big trades and UFA signings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shaun80</b></div><div>During the exit interviews it sounded like Sharangovich wasn't interested in sticking around. Hurts to lose Coronato, but you've gotta give up quality to get quality.</div></div>
Necas at $8.5m seems high. Contract comps I had used in recent post were…
Kempe: $5.5m x 4 years
Konecny: $5.5m x 6 years
Compher: $5.1m x 5 years
D Strome: $5.0m x 5 years
Barbashev: $5.0m x 5 years
Batherson: $4.95m x 6 years
Zacha: $4.75m x 5 years
Sorry to hear on Sharangovich.
Personally I think Zary should be the next 1C. Can put a vet next to him to handle some if defensive responsibilities, faceoffs, etc.

Whoa...why not just extend Sharangovich?
He probably gets similar contract to Necas and you'd get to keep Coronato and pick
On NJD deal...add a little retention to Markstrom and I think its still plausible
EDIT: just realized you signed Necas for $8.5m. Oh, boy.

Kakko at $2.5m
Schneider at $2.5m
Lindgren at $5.0m
Thats their $10m cap space....and still would have a couple roster spots to fill

They move from mid-20s to top-ten…Holtz is better on LW and Brunette was high on him….Daws is waiver exempt and could #2 of future.
