I don't know if the kings could take on Marner because of the PLD contract and the fact that they will need to pay to get a goalie.

19 year old showed flashes, 3 oa pick is going to get every opportunity to be just that. Had hawerchuk in the 80s, selanne possibly tkachuk in the 90s, not quite sure what your getting at, possibly the black hole from 2000 ish on, no disrespect to doan. Had 1 oa in early 80s hawerchuk and haven’t had one since so no number 1 picks gifted to them since the early 80s and a different city. Not quite sure what your getting at?

Salary cap era so team control is a factor, no guarantee at extending marner, blows up the cap if he is extended, and everybody and there dog, going to want bigger cash. Keller would be pissed with his bargain deal, so possibly blows up the room, just not a great fit outside of a video game.

Leafs fans would've told everyone back in 2019 or 20 that Rasmus Sandin was worth the moon and yet he's been nothing special so far, just your standard number 4 defensman on a wild card team. Lamoureux is at least as good as Sandin was back then, is a right hand shot which we all know many teams are looking for and is very very fast for his height (6 foot 7) and his weight(214).
And Cooley is one of the 5-6 best 20 and younger centers in the show (I'm not counting Celebrini here cause he's not drafted yet). Centers are, by definition, worth more than wingers. And Utah has little centers, they need every one they can get their hands on, and Cooley could be a PPG player as soon as next season.

You could admit you might have gotten overexcited about some of the newer shiny players. i wouldn't hold it against you.</div></div>
Not sure why you say "you" since I'm no Leafs fans.
And as for the "proven players" vs the "projected players", you'd be right if they were closer in age. Marner just turned 27 while Cooley just turned 20. For a team like Utah whose window will not open until the latter years of the 2020s, Marner is simply too old to be a fit. If he were, say, 23, he'd be a good fit. And again, Utah badly needs centers, as they don't have many.

Stop brining up cooley was drafted in 2022, when i'm literally comparing apples to apples with marner at similar stages of development. I'm not even trying to get locked in on marner. Cooley put up roughly the same stat line as Larkin in his draft+2 year. It's fair to say Cooley could develop the same as Larkin. Larkin a great player, but not more valuable than Marner.
My broader point is, cooley looks dope, but he is just not a player you fawn over and go that's it, he's our franchise defining guy. after. one. year.</div></div>
Just read my last reply.
And as for Larkin vs Marner, I take Larkin first. He has a lower AAV and is more important to the Wings than Marner is to the Leafs. And he's a center, which are, on average, more valuable than wingers

You kidding? A future number 2-3 defensman PLUS a future elite top line center for an underachieving 11M player, a third pairing defensman and a future number 2-3 center??

New York Islanders signed Maxim Tsyplakov (1 Year / $1,950,000 AAV)
Late bloomer with one ok season and one great season. Good physical game (especially near the goals during pp), a quite fancy shot. He is ok with spending time proving that he deserves to make the team (was under pressure for a while). Has been consistently evolving over the past couple of years. One major drawback is that he likes taking stupid penalties. Definitely needs to be more disciplined. Nice addition for the Isles.
Vpered Spartak!

It's a huge sign for Islanders! Congrats!
Tsyplakov is a great 2-way power forward with a good skating. He can play with the same effectively in 5x4 and also in a 4x5. So he has a possibilities to be a great player in the 3rd or 4th lines or even in the 2nd line.
Last year in Spartak Moscow he provided 145 hits in +-70 games. It's the second result in the team.
So he is a really great player.
But he isn't too strong mentally. He can get "stupid penalties" at important moments of the match.

I think there will be teams lining out the door to sign Joshua at 3M. Then again, maybe he's a systems guy that wont look remotely as good outside of Tocchet's system and playing with Garland... Either way, I think Vancouver's first piece of business is getting him extended.
I had the same idea of Nedeljkovic, but 2 years instead of 3. Brossoit has been really good, but doesnt have the experience of playing 1A minutes (45-50 GP). Not sure how he'd handle the significant increase in workload.
Bringing Jazz hands back on a cheap 1-2 year deal might be an option for 3LD. I just dont think Mikey - Gavrikov 1-2 on the left side is cup-contending material. I'd try and find a partner for Gavrikov, and then look to maybe trade for Shea Theodore. We desperately need more mobility on the blueline.

He's a 60 point player that has more hype than substance because of a few Michigan goals. If he is on the market, and I think he may be, #15 this year, and a mid-level prospect such as Berggren would be a realistic return for him. He isn't getting some godfather return because he's a 2C.</div></div>
Wrong on both accounts.
This is Leafs fans CFACGMing 101.
Badmouth said player claiming he's overrated.
Use personal opinions "proving" why the player isn't worth what his price is.
Provide no actual facts.
Make lowball trade offer to get said overrated player.
Place him in your top 6F or top 4D.
Same old same old. 🙄
Remember all the lowball offers Bertuzzi used to get on here?
Back when he had years left on his contract and Leafs fans would come on here claiming he was "up for grabs!"
Then they'd offer a **** Sandwich for him?
But always place him right beside Matthews at LW even though he "sucked and had little value."
Short memory, I guess. 😬

Personally I'm reluctant to sign Ned for 3 seasons, but one of Stolarz, Brossoit, Nedejlkovic for one season and let's try to get Portillo in a few games this season.
The one area I really hope we address is finding another shutdown player who can improve on Englund or play both sides.</div></div>
I just fear Joshua could be the next Fernando Pisani?
Maybe he is the real deal, I don't know.

Does he just need to be healthy?
He used to be a nice combo of skill and a pain in the ass to play against.

Similar thought here, but shutdown 3LD improvement from Englund who can play right side if needed.
