Deep Ottawa Moves

The challenge however assumes Melnyk will take on that much salary. I believe they don’t plan to top $70M this year.
I would be surprised to get Hamonic for that amount and term.
One would think that since the LA expansion, GMs all know not to give up 5 assets to get little in return...</div></div>
Melnyk is ruining everything haha. Grabner trade to Toronto debunks that almost. I could add a little more on Hamonic, there's cap for that.

No way Buffalo considers that. Ottawa doesnt need Drysdale, they should just take Rossi at 5

Ottawas urgent need for a better year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WellIDK</b></div><div>Why would Ottawa draft Drysdale? They need some high end forward prospects. Sens used a 1st rd pick on a RD in the past two years and a 2nd rd pick in 2018 as well. They already got Chabot and Brannstrom. No need to use a top 5 pick on a defenseman given the offensive talent in this draft. I'm not familiar with the 2021 draft class but the Sens will probably have another top 10 pick and could use it on a defenseman if they want to add to that position</div></div>
They actually used 2 1sts on RHD the last 2 drafts. Bernard Docker and Thomson. Plus traded for Brannstrom who was a 2017 1st. They should go after Schneider/Barron/Grans/Niemela with their later picks or even Kleven. But I want Ottawa to take 2 of Laf, Byfield, Stutzle, Raymond, Rossi

That might be the most interesting Turris trade I've seen, could be a great deal. What's the story on Brown?

PSA CF fans - Ottawa doesnt need or want your garbage players
I agree with you in that the Sens shouldn't take spare parts from teams for bad contracts as they don't need help to reach the cap floor; however, they should listen to offers for good returns for taking bad contracts. Personally I would take on a guy like Perry, Eaves, Callahan,, Sekera etc. (guys with one or two years left) for some good picks/prospects (NOT 4th LINERS) but stay away from guys like Erickson, Lucic and Alzner (guys with lots of term). I really think Ottawa should target Vegas and get Holden/Reeves/Haula for next to nothing to help them out with their cap then flip those guys at the deadline for more mid picks and bring younger guys up later in the year (allow them some time to develop in the minors)

with them having to pay aho I think they try to lose dollars not add them. I can see them selling off faulk for a cheap middle 6 forward, maybe even staal if they can find any takers.

Yeah really underrated role players. I think Carolina would actually value them too much to pull the trigger on this deal but it's not a terrible trade offer.

Some highly questionable trades to get better
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ottawasean</b></div><div>Top line D, bottom pair (or future top 4 D) for 30 goals and 90 point a year isn’t that lopsided. Larsen so good and Bear is a good prospect. But Nylander has potential to give McDavid an elite, fast winger who can set him up and let Draisatl lead the second line of attack. A calculated risk - but I can see why that might not work out for both teams. IMO Nylander has to be moved because Leafs can’ afford Marner and other RFas with it.</div></div>
No one is going to make the hall for Larsson mistake again. Especially not the leafs, no it is not a fair trade lol.

That's not nearly enough to get Miller, and Vegas won't retain cause they're in a cap crunch too. And Miller is on a pretty good contract anyways
Ottawa deal is fairly close. Don't think Toronto has to take both of Gaborik and MacArthur's contracts. Just one of them would be fair enough

If we are ponying up Nylander to Canes, then Pesce with more cost certainty, is coming back or no deal. Maybe Hamilton, but not Faulk.

Getting to the floor
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ottawasean</b></div><div></div></div>
it really depends on how large of a difference you get between picks on the 2nd and the other returns. If you are talking top 10 picks of the second round aka 40th pick or so, ok maybe but what if you aren't. Especially for the length and amount of that contract.
<a href="https://www.broadstreethockey.com/2013/4/25/4262594/nhl-draft-pick-value-trading-up" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.broadstreethockey.com/2013/4/25/4262594/nhl-draft-pick-value-trading-up</a>
here is a value chart of NHL picks. You start looking at pick 40 and down, and really there isn't much of a difference is there?
Which is why if you are looking at later round picks aka 2nd round down. I'd rather collect more picks than the so called higher round picks. As I think the value return for taking on such a huge contract really isn't there and you can take shorter contracts with less cap hit and end up with a better return. At least statically.
You can end up taking a smaller contract for only 2 years and end up with maybe a mid to late 3rd round pick. Which isn't that far off in value from say a late second.

I like the idea, and the fact that you don't have everyone giving you 1st round picks.
Hard to know if Lucic would ever consider waiving his NMC to go to Ottawa though. Sure, Edmonton is a barren $hithole of an organization, but Ottawa is a straight up dumpster fire.

All of these trades i’d probably do from an Oiler perspective. I think if you’re retaining off Kassian, you can 1up or possibly 2up that 6th pick.

And I'm not sure why buffalo wants Sprong - they have a fair number of your forwards. This would create more signing issues down the line.</div></div>
I fixed the cap, I would think having too many prospects is never a bad thing. With Pilut about ready to make his NHL debut, and extra forward in the AHL would help.
