Would the Blackhawks be interested in Tavares? Not trying to stir up trouble, just thinking an older center/occasional winger might be good to have with Bedard, similar to Foligno.
I don't watch a ton of Blackhawks games but it seems like Bedard doesn't need a playmaking winger when he's so creative himself.

Marner
As a Leafs fan I'm interested in Bunting, but not for Marner. I don't think Pittsburgh has the pieces, or is unwilling to move parts of its core that would be attractive.

Leafs have no need for picks, and Knies is growing nicely. The Leafs' left side is also pretty decent, they would want someone on the right.

splash movement to generate attention
I wouldn't mind Vejmelka on the Leafs - though perhaps there's a better trade with the Leafs' 1st than a goalie. There's quite a few prospects looking pretty good that the Leafs will not be able to fit on the roster the way they're currently constructed, perhaps one or two of those would be a better match than the pick swap?

Young players I can see CAR targeting
Unless there's a major shakeup in D in Toronto, you gotta think Liljegren is kept if only for the handedness. He's also averaging 22 mins a night, I don't think they move him for picks. If he's moved, it'll probably be to land a better RD.
Robertson also has more goals in 27 fewer games than Drury - I think they'd prefer to keep Robertson as a one-dimensional scoring threat on a third line while he's an RFA.

The "de" in your description made me read the rest of it with a very thick Quebec accent.
What do you think the ask would be for a Jake Evans or 50% Dvorak?

Marner
I think it'd probably be more even with Adam Fox going the other way. Quality over quantity.
30-40 goals, 60-70 assists, 100-110 point guys are few and far between and it'd be a cornerstone player going the Leaf's way. Any team would be interested in RD, but I don't think a forwards swap would be very interesting for the Leafs because your big C and LW players are both 30+ and would significantly shorten our timeline of competitiveness with Marner being 26.
It's all a moot point with Marner's NMC, though.

Re-Tool on the fly
I think the Leafs lost their opportunity to re-tool when they decided to not trade Marner in the summer. A major re-tool would require one of Marner, Matthews, Tavares, Nylander, or Rielly gets moved, somehow, somewhere.
I don't know which one would be the right one to move but it's the same team with the periphery players expected to make up the difference at bargain bin prices.

Jeannot like trade
Would love Ferraro but not sure how available he is given his age, he'd be in his prime at the end of his current contract and the Sharks probably won't suck then.

Need bigger changes - being so close to the cap hurts when there's guys like Holmberg, Abruzzese, Steeves, Gambrell, and McMann in the minors because there's no space.

Weaponizing Cap Space
It cost a bit less than this for the leafs to move a multi-year Petr Mrazek. I think a closer value would be just a 2nd rounder for one year of Klingberg (if the Leafs decide to move him).

I don't think it's the value necessarily, it's the timing - Nylander's familiar with the systems, is a known quantity, and gives the Leafs the best chance of winning this year. Also, I don't think Nylander would be proficient as a top pairing center - the experiment's been tried and it's not generally the best use of his talents.

The Leafs wouldn't do this, but because they'd be at the same cap with one less d-man. They would need to shed an above 2million dollar forward and I don't think Edmonton's hurting for middle 6 forwards.

A 3rd is a bit rich; I think people over-value the leverage aspect of being close to the cap. The worst it'd be for Toronto would be to trade Jarnkrok for nothing, because he's a good player.

Otherwise, they're going to need to make some other trade I guess.</div></div>
It's more likely the Leafs deal a forward to keep their D - They don't really have RD depth behind Timmins that's ready for the NHL, but they have quite a few on the cusp ELC's on the wing.

30-35 points and 15-20 goals a season for a fifth seems much more than fair, no? And there's no way Chicago uses all of their draft picks in the next 3 years to draft players.

I'm curious if Bedard changes player's minds on Chicago being an undesirable location to play, kind of like Matthews did for Toronto in 2016.

I'd personally prefer the leafs speed up a bit, I'm a bit wary of Tavares and O'Reilly's foot speed, and adding Toews (if he's healthy enough) and Perry wouldn't help.

I know Marner's the whipping boy in Toronto (when it's not Holl), but he's gotta be pretty close to Matthews' value. Dude's top 10 in points and assists most years and just got nominated for the Selke, as well as signed for two more years of control.
Which is all a moot point when Babcock is going to be the coach, lol.

I'd take out the 1st, Murray, and the 4th the other way. There's no need to pay for taking Murray when his buyout would be 2 million in 24-25.
