I think these trades are all really realistic and possible, except the Kadri trade, I don't believe Naz is going anywhere, but great overall imo.

The Marleau Solution
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TML_GM</b></div><div>Sadly due to the CBA, the buyout and resign is not likely an option. Certainly not with Ottawa as to buy him out prior to the start of next season Marleau would have needed to be on their roster at the trade deadline. Now if they took a player to arbitration and settled, they would be able to buy him out in the summer if he was acquired before July 1 (I think), but that would be before the July 1 bonus was paid by Leafs, Ottawa isn't eating 4+ M in salary, especially in a lump sum cash bonus. This is a scenario I explored 6 months or so ago. Seemed like the perfect solution, until the CBA came knocking. The only way that works is if Toronto gets a rich team to bite on that deal (i.e. NYR), which likely involves losing picks/prospects/etc.</div></div>
fair, I just see this as an unlikely situation

The Marleau Solution
Marleau probably disagrees to retire but if we get him to agree to waive his NTC then Ottawa can buy him out and we can sign him to a league min contract, unless ottawa can’t actually buy him out after July 1.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>If I'm Ottawa I'm not taking calls on DeMelo unless it's an overpayment. He's the exact type of guy you want to have around during a rebuild. He's old enough that he can be something of a leader on a very young team, but he's young enough that he'll still be good when the team is.
The sens blueline is very young and inexperienced, they need to have some players with NHL experience. We currently have three DMen who have more than 200 games played and DeMelo is the only one who is good. He's the kind of stay at home dman you want around young puck moving superstars like Wolanin, Brannstrom and Chabot.</div></div>
DeMelo is not a stay at home Dman

Toronto next year options
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonesryan</b></div><div>Marner gets more than $9.5M on a long term deal. He'll be over Matthews AAV if it's 7 or 8 years. His camp already offered a 8 year/$72M deal ($9M AAV) in the summer that was turned down, he's not gonna take that now after the season he's had. Best option is to convince him to bridge for 3 years, then pay him the big bucks (terrible idea for Toronto cause it'll be closer to $14M for him by then, but long term right now he doesn't fit). Or give him a 6 year/$10.5M AAV deal.
You've overpaid Kapanen both in money and term. He's had 1 season in the league where he's been inconsistent, that screams a 2-3 year bridge deal and he'll be closer to $3M than the $4M you have him at. So that $1M can be added on to the Marner deal you have.
I don't mind the value of the Johnsson deal, but if I had to choose between keeping Johnsson or Kapanen I'm keeping Johnsson all day long. He's for more consistent than Kapanen and scores many different ways, where Kapanen is kinda a one dimensional player and scores a lot of his goals in close. Also, there's more options to replace Kapanen internally than there is Johnsson. Bracco could easily replace Kapanen and Toronto is loaded with right handed shooting wingers where they're not so deep with good left handed shooting ones. Johnsson is by far their best LW player in the organization, where as Kapanen is 3rd at best and can be replaced pretty easily. Use Kapanen's inflated value right now in a package to bring back that right handed d option they need
& saying "get a d like Stecher or Demelo" but trading Zaitsev for nothing doesn't make a lot of sense. There is some logic in using Zaitsev in a package to get Demelo and one of Ottawa's injured players since their owner is cheap and doesn't like paying players as it is. But throwing Zaitsev away isn't the best move. He does have some value</div></div>
I think not think a bridge is a terrible option for Toronto, you have to take into account that players contracts are signed expecting the cap to go up and salary cap% is not the end all be all. I don't think Marner is worth more than 9.5M (More than Kucherov and Stone who are clearly better). However I don't believe either way is ideal for the Leafs, but I know for a fact that 10M x 6 would be an overpayment and I don't think this would be the end of the world but relative to other players in the league it would be.
The point you have with Kapanen is fair and that's entirely possible I could totally see him in between 3M-4M, I think the Mantha contract is a good comparable.
I also know why you would keep Johnsson over Kapanen but, Johnsson is producing similar numbers at an unsustainable rate (very high s%), and you could try to play Kapanen on the LW, I could see it working, clearly Jonhsson is a top 6 winger and clearly Kappy is too but I would take the younger one. 21 years old to 24 is a big difference in player development.
For Zaitsev I would just like to get value, because he is so bad I would be happy with any trade. Getting Stetcher or DeMelo to replace Zaitsev is my thinking at a relatively cheap price that is.
