What would you say that Suter's value is at this point? I think he's still a valuable player, but won't be for all 6 years left on that contract so I'm not sure. I dunno if he's even available but if they decide to rebuild (like I think they should) he probably could be.

However, Neal is more physical whereas Guentzel has better hockey sense. That’s what I think separates them. What about Hornqvist and Lucic, who was better at their peak?</div></div>
I think I'm gonna have to go Lucic, but it also depends on the state of the league. If we're saying current state of the league but those 2 players are at their peaks then I think it's a really close call. Even in Lucic's prime he wasn't a great skater. Not that Hornqvist is a speed demon but neither of them have that much "skill" if you will, but Hornqvist isn't considered a complete anchor (by everyone at least) and is still putting up respectable numbers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrandonDubinskyGOAT</b></div><div>Yeah I actually don’t think Neal does that. He actually has a really good wrist shot and one timer, that’s how he scored most of his goals. Obviously a pretty big player who is not afraid to fight and hit. What type of player would you categorize Malkin? A playmaker? Power forward? Sniper?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AFOX10900</b></div><div>I can't say I watched a ton of him in PIT (that was before a really started following hockey) but from what little I've seen of him he's more of a get to the front of the net and annoy the other team and get some garbage goals like Hornqvist, but I could be wrong</div></div>
I'm gonna chime in with my opinion here on a few things. I'd say Bjugstad over Bonino. Bonino was a great piece on HBK, but if you replace Bonino with Bjugstad is the line even better? Nobody can really say, but as the GOAT says I think Jugs has more skill so I'm gonna say him. As for Neal and Guentzel, I think they're actually pretty similar players. Neal knew how to get to the soft spots where Geno could find him and had a great shot. I think you need to give it a couple years to see if Guentzel improves before you really can say, but at this point the Neal-Geno connection in 11-12 was more impressive, as short as it was. But this next year or 2 could easily change my mind.

Yeah that's fair. I don't think they're a must keep together forever type line, but if I was in charge of the lines I'd start the season with them together and see if anyone figured out how to put the puck in the net during the off season. I thought they looked solid enough to give another look.

Unfortunately I think you're probably right about Johnson. I'd probably swap Simon and Kahun. Simon-Bjugstad-Horny played really well together last year so I'd see if Kahun and Malkin can have some chemistry before I'd break up that line. But either way, I'm on board with this.

Ah a stay at home LD you say. Might I interest you in one Jack Johnson? Aside from an offensive zone face-off you'll be hard pressed to find him outside of the defensive zone, so he is certainly the stay at home type.

Also I think you can get Scandella or Thompson + a late pick for Rust but not both</div></div>
Assuming they're willing to admit they need to rebuild getting a younger player to replace Carter + 1st round pick might be enticing enough to do it. They have plenty of cap space and could even flip Bjugstad at the deadline for more picks/prospects. So I'm cautiously optimistic that it would at least be considered. As for the Buffalo trade that's reasonable. I've just seen so many people on here trading Scandella as a cap dump and Thompson as nothing more than a throw in so I figured it could be reasonable.

Opening night roster Pittsburgh
Personally I think you picked the wrong player to dump for cap space. I'd pick Rust before McCann. He's younger and has more upside in my opinion. I like Rust but I like McCann more, plus it would open up even more cap space for future moves. But unfortunately I think something like this is going to be the only remaining move and Johnson will probably end up playing with Schultz on the 2nd pair.

Risto to Pitt - Something Different
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>I've thought about Pittsburgh for risto, just not sure how either team makes it work</div></div>
My thought was to maybe take out Sheary and add Scandella and Johnson. So Risto/Scandella for Rust/Bjugstad/Johnson. I don't know if I really like it for either team given Johnson's term, but Buffalo would probably be able to make it work after this year with a few big contracts coming off next year to re-sign some guys and then Bjugstad off before Dahlin needs a mammoth deal. Pens get some cap space this year and rid themselves of Johnson, Buffalo adds a couple solid middle 6 guys and either play Johnson on the bottom pairing and shelter him or buy him out/bury him after this year if they need the space. Not ideal, but could work maybe?

I Dont Even Know
Well I guess one thing you don't know is how good Dumba is if you think that package will get him. I do think you're trading the right people from Pitt, assuming one of them can get you a suitable replacement for Schultz. Minnesota is much more likely to trade Spurgeon I'd think, and if Fenton would bite on a similar package from Pitt for him I'd still consider it. Probably not the 1st though unless a reasonable extension was in place.

That's fair. I wasn't really sure. I tried it from Minnesota's side and it seemed like their forwards were pretty solid after that and with Zucker being dangled as trade bait maybe they could get a decent replacement for Brodin elsewhere in this hypothetical world. But again, I don't really know.

not sure if this works
Personally I feel that it doesn't if only because Petterson isn't re-signed here and there isn't room for him and I feel like he needs to be. Zucker is also the only player coming back from Minnesota that I care about, but I will admit to not watching much of Pateryn. I would rather forego the Ottawa trade, take Pateryn, Hallander and the 1st out of the Wild trade, and add Rust to it. So Zucker and Rask for Bjugstad, Rust, Johnson. Not sure if it works, but Minny seemed fine with the Johnson for Rask swap earlier when the Kessel rumors were around and they're getting some decent pieces back. Then you'd be able to re-sign Petterson. Cap would still be tight though. That's my take at least.
