As a Canes fan and an analytics guy, I find this trade offer funny because Jesse is the better player right now but is perceived as a negative asset compared to Necas' speed and potential.

I probably overrated the Devils a bit, but I don't think the Blue Jackets will be as good as people think. We might very well see 3 Metro teams and 5 Atlantic, with Caps, Jackets, and Devils as 4th 5th and 6th</div></div>
The Isles firing Trotz could be a poor indicator for them this year, but they were slammed with COVID last year. Could barely field a team and got so far behind in the standings early in the year that it was tough for them to get up. That team is not that much different from the team that made the ECF in 20-21 season. Did you mean sign Kadri? Barzal is under contract through this season I thought.

Added Marino Palat Nemec Vanecek, Haula. Arguably one of the most improved teams in the metro</div></div>
Totally forgot about Palat, so I'll concede that is definitely an upgrade. Marino is not the major upgrade you need on the backend. Vanecek is garbage, I just don't see his performance and health being a viable piece for the Devils this year. And Haula for Zacha is a wash. Haula has been on what 5 teams in 6 years now? There's a reason teams don't keep him around.
Adding new players does not equate to actually improving and you added zero players to your first PP unit on a team that ranked 28th in PP % last year. Hughes improves and Dougie healthy will help but I just don't see it all as a major upgrade to the team as a whole.

22-23 standings
I fully expected you to be a Devils fan having them 4th in the Metro. Not sure how they got better this year other than a healthy Dougie and Hughes for the full season, maybe... Haula for Zacha isn't much of an improvement considering Haula could only put up 44 points last year with Pastrnak on his line most of the year.
Pens had a fantastic season last year, but same squad but another year older gives me pause to how good they'll be through a full 82 games. Only team in the Metro that actually improved significantly is CBJ and they have a lot of young guys making steps forward this year i.e. Merzlikins, Texier, Sillinger plus Laine contract and Johnny Hockey. Could see them sneaking in the 4 spot over Caps and NJD.
Caps added goaltending in Kuemper, but same as Pens. Another year older for Oshie, Ovi and Backstrom.
If Islanders land Kadri like current rumors imply, they will bounce back after a weird weird season last year. Think CBJ and NYI can battle for the fourth spot in the Metro
I have Metro as:
Canes/Rangers 1A and 1B
Pens
CBJ
NYI
Caps
NJD
PHI

Bear is fully capable of being a top 6 two-way RHD, he got hit with long COVID last year and his performance and minutes slipped. He's too overpaid to be a 6/7th D on our team and not better than Burns or Pesce to play top 4 Dman minutes right now. I expect a sign and trade and fell on WPG as an option for a team needing RHD. Not really familiar with Heinola, so didn't realize he was so highly valued in WPG.

Based on the inactivity in moving him and outlook from the team, Gardiner will be a Hurricane this year so was trying to keep that assumption in play here. Unfortunately, a salary dump is great in theory but there are probably 20 other teams all looking to salary dump someone onto one of those three teams so we cross our fingers and hope Gardiner is Gardiner of the 2017-2018 season, or not to wish more injuries on the guy but someone who finds the LTIR sometime in the season as he's shown the capacity to do.

They're not putting the SAT line together with a question mark at 2C. I'd imagine one if not both of Teuvo and Svech drop down to Kotkaniemi's wing to help him adjust and see him into the position smoothly.
Necas is going to be a C this year if he signs I imagine. Drury probably plays 4 LW, Kase 3LW, and Necas 4C.
I'd rather see Chatfield sit than Coghlan, but that's kind of nothing.
I really like this.</div></div>
We all know RBA changes up lines, top 6 are definitely in flux with this but was really more focused on trying to find a way to make the Necas signing work for a semi-bridge deal. If Nino got $4Mx2 then Necas at $3Mx3 (Maybe $3.5x3 since the space is there) seems fair in comparison and still allows him a large 7 or 8-year deal to be signed at 26 years old.

Wouldn’t the smarter move be to use the Philly second to send Gardiner + Martinook to Arizona? Then call up Heinola?</div></div>
Just looking at teams needing RHD and we can use LHD depth. $ amount is essentially the same with Coghlan, Chatfield and Heinola but don't know enough about Heinola if he can play RHD so just slot in the RHD for now and let those decisions be made my DW and RBA.
Gardiner and Martinook plus a second is not going to get it done for a salary dump to AZ IMO, so conserve draft picks and dump your excess RHD in Bear to make room for Necas.

Not that I don't believe you, but do you have a reference for that rule? I just like to be informed with the resources to back it up. I didn't see that on the FAQ.
Does that ruling only apply to the second buyout window or was Gardiner never eligible for buyout even in the first buyout window?

Jackass Johnson will never play a game in a Canes jersey, and he decided that fate back in 2005. Plus, he just plain sucks. Might as well try to trade for one of either Soucy or Kulikov and get half retention on them.</div></div>
Trade with retention is a good idea that I didn't even think of, was just looking over UFA LHD and saw one that had some NHL playing time with a minimal cap hit. Jack Johnson is probably not the answer but LHD will become a problem if Gardiner is bought out unless you force Chatfield or Coghlan to play offhanded.

You won't need to pay to dump Martinook
WAY too much for Nino. That's what he was making last year, and that was a little rich. Closer to 4-4.5 would be my guess.
The lineup's about right though. Kase isn't a 4th liner and I'd rather see Fast in that position due to Kase's scoring upside, but if that is what makes or breaks the lineup, we're going to win the cup</div></div>
I thought the same but saw on Twitter that once a player files for arbitration, the teams buyout period reopens. Here's a quote from CapFriendly Buyout FAQ's : "Clubs whom have 1 or more arbitration filings may be permitted to perform a buyout outside of the regular window. This gives teams another opportunity to become cap compliant following an arbitration case." So once Bear filed for arbitration, we had the ability to buyout a player to prepare to maintain cap compliance.
Wasn't sure what the cost would be for a Martinook salary dump, but buyout Gardiner, salary dump Martinook and then let the lines fall as they may. Not sure Jack Johnson is even going to play hockey any longer so 3rd line LHD is still a question mark with Gardiner gone as well.

Big problem is Canes can’t afford Miller without a dump. So your offer is feasible but Canes would have to deal Gardiner in a separate deal to dump his cap hit.

I like this one a lot. Think signing Necas over Nino and save the cap space to make a deadline deal if needed or extending Nino for 6 years to bring AAV down but 5.4M seems low already. Wouldn't be surprised if that offer isn't enough to get Chychrun from the Yotes either.
