Lol, the Leafs can keep that train wreck of a signing called Ryan Reaves. Also, Middleton is not on the block.

MN chases playoff spot

If Ryan, O’Rourke was a right handed defender, that would be the kind of guy Buffalo would want (maybe a year ago for him specifically) as part of a return for a player Mittelstadt. Buffalo has plenty of puck movers, what they need is a physical stay at home type. Defensively responsible, able to cover up for his aggressive partner. If he happens to be able to block shots and still carry the puck up the ice once in a while that’s a bonus. I don’t know if Carson Lambos fills that particular need.

Yea the Wild don't do this trade. Kotkaniemi is a worse version of JEE who the Canes inexplicably extended for eight years as soon as they got him, and Suzuki is a useless throw-in. With their cap problems through next season, a hypothetical JEE trade would involve a Necas + blue-chip prospect with an ELC instead of picks.

They are nothing more than spare parts. You can get similar to better pieces off of waivers. They can sell those assets off for picks and be better off.

Both get declined quickly. No value at all.
Unless Minny wants to extend Grizz and he’s willing, considering their cap situation next year don’t see it at all, there is nothing there for them. With Middleton, Brodin, Merrill still under contract on LD next year no need either.
Henrique with that much retention will cost a 1st, or a 2nd with a decent prospect. Not a pile of trash.

If Eichel deal does happen most likely scenario
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Elevatorboy</b></div><div>Man... that's just crazy. Think about what you actually said for a min. First of all, you wrote that "big time trades never net the return most people expect them to." Let me know the last time a 24 year old, 1st line center, top 10 player in the league, at over a ppg player, who is cost controlled in the future, was traded. I'm not sure that's ever happened. If it has, it would be extremely, extremely rare. Comparing 24 year old "prospects" at wing or center who havent accomplished much in the league yet is not a comparison.
These players are never available. The team trading the player holds an extremely valuable asset. You think its appropriate for someone offering a trade to just say "here's all my crap, you turn around and sell it for the funds if you want to, its not my problem." That's insane. That's like going to a car dealership and instead of paying the cash they need, telling them here's all my junk that you could sell to get the cash you need. No one is accepting that. If you want the player, you get the assets yourself and make an offer. I'm not doing the work for you</div></div>
While it’s true players of this caliber are rarely if ever available, you can’t completely discount the serious health concerns or the state of economics in the nhl impacting the flat cap and teams financials either. Those types of things definitely factor into the return of any player, even one of the potential caliber of JE.
In terms of big time trades generally not netting outlandish returns - off the top of my head I’d think Karlsson, ROR, Seguin are probably the bigger ones. I’d think there are a few others that I’m not thinking of now but if I did some research there are likely additional examples. Not to say those players or situations are the same as JE, but conceptually those were big time players and at the time of the trades had extremely high value and didn’t get the returns that most expected.
I get your point about MIN should be doing the flipping of their own players for assets and then using those to acquire JE. That’s fair, I was more so coming from the standpoint that those players do have quite a bit of value and could easily be turned into an attractive repackage of futures. This being an AGM post, it was more a comment about the value of those players versus who should be doing the legwork.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RFenger</b></div><div>I see this as collateral for Buffalo to get what they want for Fiala and Dumba, the market for these two is much larger than the 4 teams that 'could' afford Eichel</div></div>
While I agree they can still get decent returns for those guys, I just dont see Buffalo doing ANY Eichel trades without guaranteeing themselves a prospect and a pick the moment he leaves the squad. Maybe a 3 team trade makes more sense here; maybe Philly? They could definitely use Dumba and Buffalo needs prospects/picks
IMO a prospect and a first HAS to be part of this deal or you immediately lose the trade.

You’ll get killed by BUF fans but I think this is probably one of the more realistic scenarios given Eichel health, flat cap and potentially what other teams are willing to offer. They could flip Dumba for a first or high prospect, flip Fiala for some really good futures and you would probably have to add another first. But I don’t think Boldy or Rossi would realistically be included.
These big time trades rarely net the return that most ppl expect them to. I anticipate BUF fans being fairly underwhelmed with the return they get for JE.

Using the Zucker trade to guess the next move
I have to believe the Canes have deal in place to move Pesce this summer if they are truly interested in Dumba. That makes the most sense to me.
Scott Wheeler of the Athletic has Geekie rated as the Canes’ 16th best prospect. Not that he’s the end-all-be-all of prospect ratings, but I do respect his opinion. Geekie’s skating seems to be the consensus weakness and that makes him a non-starter for me.
I think it would have to be Suzuki and the 1st to make the Wild give up Dumba...whose play continues to get better and better now.
A future forward group of Kaprizov, Fiala, Suzuki, Ek, Boldy, Khovanov, Kunin, Greenway, etc looks pretty good to me!
If they pull a deal like this off, let’s hope Guerin can figure out a way to move Zuccarello’s contract in a year or two...

Using the Zucker trade to guess the next move
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RFenger</b></div><div>After the Nino/Rask trade last year, i'd have a hard time believing that wild ownership(Leipold) would allow such a trade. It would have to be very loaded in Wild's favor in my opinion.</div></div>
It kind of is if you think about it. A third 1st round pick in a deep draft (unless somehow Toronto and Carolina both collapse) and a center prospect projected to be a top 6 player? They don't have any other trading chips to bring in that kind of return other than Brodin or Dumba and they badly need a center or two for their long term success. Maybe Dumba takes the summer to get his head cleared and comes back next year looking more like the 17-18 and early 18-19 version of himself, but if a Carolina is interested now and offers something like this, I'd take it and focus on the future. The current core's window is over and they need to work on transitioning to the next core of Ek, Kunin, Greenway, Kaprizov, and bring in more prospects like Boldy and Addison to build towards the future.

Guerin targeted Addison because he knew him from his time in Pittsburgh, so based on that, no they wouldn't flip him this quickly.
