Gibson to CHI
Hard NO from the Hawks. You expect the Hawks to give up a better goalie (3.09/.906 vs 3.15/.898), who is signed for just 2 more years at $4.25M for Gibson (3 more years at $6.4M), AND the Hawks give up a 1st and a 3rd?
Maybe, just maybe (still probably no) if the draft picks were going the other way. So the Hawks take on Gibson (in a Sharks' salary dump move) and the Sharks get Mrazek back as a replacement. The cost is 2 draft picks from the Sharks.

vegas goes all in for kane
You do realize the Hawks are going for a YOUTH rebuild? And you offer 30 yo Karlsson, 35 yo Martinez, and 35 yo Weber, who isn't even playing anymore?? And the draft picks aren't until 2024 and 2025?
Pa-LEEZ ! Hard pass!

FLAMES MOVE FOR KANE
1st round pick in 2025?? Never going to happen. Hawks would need an earlier pick than that. I've heard 2023 1st round or bust.

Can an NHL promote a player from the CHL to the NHL once the CHL season has started, yet before it has ended?
I know that if a CHL player starts the season on the NHL roster, and is demoted from that NHL roster, the player must return to their WHL team for the rest of that season. They may not join the AHL (or ECHL, etc) instead of joining their CHL team (assuming all requirements are met, i.e. age, contract, etc). I also understand that after the end of the player's CHL season, that player may be promoted to and play the rest of the AHL season. I would assume said player could also be promoted to the NHL squad at that point also.
However, suppose a player starts the season with his CHL club, and after a month or two, the NHL club decides that that player has earned a spot on the NHL roster? Can the NHL team promote that player from the CHL to the NHL roster? Since the player has never played in the NHL that season, he had never been "returned" to the CHL team, so the "must play the remainder of the CHL season" clause should not apply.
I'm going to exclude emergency health/injury situations. I've heard of CHL goalies being promoted to the NHL in an emergency when an NHL goalie is injured (probably the backup, in for an injured started already), and the team can not physically get an AHL goalie to the rink in time for a game. I'm not interested in this situation.
I've read something posted that a CHL player may be recalled by their NHL team directly after playing in the WJC. This would make sense for a player who performed spectacularly at the WJCs and therefore earned a chance to play for his NHL club.
I've also seen posted that an NHL club can promote a CHL player for up to five games, as long as the player does not miss more than one CHL season game during that time. Then I'd have to ask, what happens if, during this time the player displays the ability to stay in the NHL. Can the NHL squad just keep them as long as they want?
Anyone know the details on whether a CHL player who has not played in the NHL during the present season can be recalled to the NHL during the middle of the CHL season, either at any time, and/or after participating in the WJCs?
Thank you in advance for all appropriate responses...

Minimum protection numbers for Kraken Expansion Draft - Can you protect LESS THAN the maximum number? And can you turn that into a trade value??
A question came up recently concerning the number of players a team can protect in the upcoming Kraken expansion draft. Is it possible to protect less than the maximum number? I know this is probably a rhetorical question, and probably not very likely to happen
For instance, suppose a team is still in the tear-down and rebuild stage. They have plenty of exempt prospects/less than two year pros on the roster, so there is no need to protect them. Plus, they have plenty of older players with bad contracts that they'd like to get rid of. Can the GM protect just five players and leave the rest exposed? (I'm not sure I'd do this as a GM - admit that my team has only 5 players that I'd like to keep, and the rest of the roster is trash - but maybe I was just hired as the new GM and I'm cleaning house).
Now, let's assume that I can protect less than the maximum number, so I have spots available? Can I use that as trade value? Say I make a trade with another team for one of their players that they don't have room to protect but don't want to expose, for say, a 5th round draft choice. I then place that player on my protected list. Once the expansion draft is over, I then trade the acquired player back to his original team, and in return I get my original 5th round pick back, and also their 2nd round draft pick. So, in effect, I am protecting their player for their 2nd round draft pick. Is this possible???
I know this is all highly unlikely, but still, is it possible, within the NHL rules????

roster right now
I'd like to see Shaw up on 1RW, but that would have to be the Shaw of 2013, not 2021. So I'd move Suter up to 1RW and leave Shaw as 3RW. But Suter not listed to play RW?? So, maybe DeBrincat to 1RW, Suter to 3LW, and put either Highmore or Carpenter in as 4LW - one of them has to play it since the Hawks had Highmore - Kampf - Carpenter as a 4th line last year. Nylander goes to the bench. I like your Dpairs.
