NYR deadline fire sale
Not bad. McD trade looks pretty similar to one I made in thread tonight but that’s ok. No reason to retain salary on McD though if getting Callahan’s contract.

Yeah but mcdonagh is still an excellent defenseman. It’s not a downgrade or hindering their chances for this year. Sergachev could end up being better in future but if you’re saying win now it’s pretty equal.

This way NYR doesn't have to retain any of McDonagh's salary, of course.</div></div>
Nice idea, by the way. So much that a few other people ripped it off in their own trades ?.

Cap space. They’re going to have problems with it over next couple of years. If rangers were to take Callahan’s contract for next few seasons and give them 2 runs of mcdonagh t could happen.

That's a tough one. I made another armchair gm and it seemed like it could work assuming Chytil and Andersson are ready next year, along with resigning all RFAs. With Callahan, it left about 6 million in cap, assuming cap rises to 78 million. So it's probably doable capwise, but not sure if Rangers would win trade anymore. Lightning give up an elite prospect and offload contract for a first pair D. Might have to add a pick.

Yeah definitely seems like he's kind of far from the NHL. I want to say they could maybe get a better prospect like Roslovic but not sure if Jets are going to agree to that.

Provide depth. He’d probably be 7th D in case someone gets hurt or maybe third pair. I don’t see it happening either though.

Idt he’s actually gonna go to VGK. Everyone keeps sending him to bruins and I wanted to think about a potential fit. But no chance McPhee goes for him.

Do you know anything about hockey except overvaluing most of your players? Except the best one who you somehow undervalue. For everyone else’s sake, please think before you post something that on all levels truly stinks.
Not only that, you failed to put Chytil and andersson in lineup for rest of the season. I don’t get it.

Trades with DAL, STL, PIT, VGK, and BOS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>worcat</b></div><div>No but the Blues have players they need to resign, they can't afford to throw away money at McDonough to help fit your narrative.</div></div>
You realize except for jaskin sundqvist and Edmundson most expiring deals aren’t deserving of pay raises. Statsny isn’t getting all of his 7 million back, and brodziak and upshall aren’t getting any more money in their mid 30s, assuming their spot does not get taken by a prospect like Thompson. Sundqvist jaskin edmundson don’t get that much more than they are already making. Neither does Hutton. And bouwmeester and gunnarson have a year left, which has a big hit on cap and will clear lots of space since both are in 30s and will not get the same amount of money they make now. So technically they could have the space.
At the very least, 2 cup runs with an excellent defender at a good cap hit that can put this team over the top. If that trade has to be modified to fit that, so be it. But that’s still going to cost a lot no matter how you slice it. Good players don’t come cheap.

That’s 2 shots at cup. And if team is good plus playing on pair with pietrangelo mcdonagh could easily resign. Anyone at mcdonaghs level is gonna cost quite a bit. And blues have most of their picks starting next year so it’s not like they don’t have chances to replenish their prospect pool.

Koekkoek would be 5th best D-man in organization right now. That's not who the Rangers are trading for. A McD trade to Tampa would mean someone along the line of Point or Serg coming back. Karlsson trades are Point +1st + srubs . McD for Point straight would be about right. Maybe slight add for Tampa.</div></div>
That’s just false. After mcdonagh and skjei the rest is awful. Partly bc of AV but they badly need help. Maybe Koekkoek isn’t what rangers should be shopping for but you’re crazy if you think point or sergachev for mcdonagh is gonna happen.

I disagree. You’re getting an excellent prospect solid defenseman who is 23 and not at full potential and a first and a second. Maybe another prospect or pick in the deal but nothing more. Rangers still get very nice return from that.

Idk about Vegas and preds trades. Preds already have excellent defense. And with Vegas I’m not sure I want to get rid of Hayes because of how good he has been defensively and when he’s not playing defense he scores goals. If Chytil and andersson are nhl ready and that’s what it takes to get rid of Smith’s contract, i guess it’s a good trade. Just take out fifth rounder and maybe fourth
