Boston Needs A Center

He's staying in the KHL another year. He signed the 1 year extension with his KHL team on Tuesday. Which the Wild's front office is perfectly fine with. They even encouraged him to do so, although their preference was for him to come over.
That said. This is for next year. So, given his extension, him not being here is understandable.

1) Gustavsson could get delt, but Guerin is neither going to undersell him nor move him if his price isn't met. He's already publicly stated that he's fine keeping all three on roster next year if it's not.
2) Those prospects might have been more productive to date, but that's not going to last long. That's only due to having more NHL games under their belt so far.
Rossi already has scored more goals in one season then any of them have. He's a 2C at minimum. The others can't even break out of the bottom six on a bottom dwelling Detroit team.

I can get behind the idea at least. Just not at the cost of a 2nd.
A straight swap on the other hand, has merit.

Rossi and Guhle Revisited
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Leave the picks out of it…just Brodin/Rossi for Guhle/Anderson</div></div>
That tips the scales far too much into Montreal's favor then.
1) Brodin is what Ghule <em>could</em> become, and out values him by a ton. At least currently.
2) Anderson is a straight dump. His negative value drags down the trade so much, something needs to be coming back to take his contract.
By taking out the picks, the trade basically becomes Rossi straight up for Anderson. Which defies logic.

Right, because 22 year old 2C's who score 20+ goals in their first full rookie season and was a top 3 Calder race player for the vast majority of it while still on their ELC grow on trees and won't garner interest because of it. 🤦♂️
Have you noticed the crap ton of other fanbases putting out ACGM's for him right now? They're f'ing salivating at the thought he could be moved. Other teams GM's aren't that stupid, he'll garner massive interest.

Berube Takes Over
Outside prospective. But Marner is EXACTLY the type of player Ottawa should be swinging for.
For as good as Brady is, he's only a All-star level player. He's better served as the team's #2 then face of the franchise.
Stutzle is still young, and he absolutely has the potential to become that franchise 1C Ottawa drafted him to be, but he's going to need a much better winger next to him than Brady to elevate him into that next phase of his development. Marner, despite his playoff warts, is that level of player. He's already what you all hoped Debrincat would be in Ottawa.
With all due respect to Batherson and Giroux, they're not capable of doing this for Stutzle. Marner can. He'd be the best piece Ottawa could hope to get their hands on to further Stutzle's development into that 1C.
Ottawa should do this trade in a heartbeat. That said, maybe swap out Chychrun for Norris, if it's that big an issue though.

Full rebuild around Matthews

Nylander has value. Don't be an ass.
But Joel Eriksson-Ek has MORE value. C'mon.
Did you miss the part where Minnesota is giving up a low-end/low-cost 1C for a overpaid top-line RW? Then ADDING a young 22 year old 2C still on his ELC who's worth a high first in his own right.
Minnesota doesn’t trade JEE straight up for Nylander. They're not adding a top prospect who spent the majority of the season in the top 3 for the Calder race and who just scored 20+ goals in his first full rookie season. Oh, plus a solid B-level defensive prospect for further stupidity.
But let's put this into terms you'll understand.
One is a 1C making $5.25M for the next 6 years despite carrying a market value of $10.1M. That's a surplus of $4.8M for the record.
The other is a RW who just got extended for $11.5M for the next 8 years, when his market value is only that of a $9.3M player. That's a negative surplus of $2.2M on his next contract. Good luck with that.
No GM is trading the $5M underpayed 1C for a overpaid 1RW. Let alone ADDING on top of it.

Top Drafted Players in NCAA Transfer Portal

I know the penguins have good connections with AZ, but Wisconsin is a better program.
Not a good sign.</div></div>
I wouldn't be worried about it. All of Whitelaw, Stramel, Lucius, and Stange are transferring out.
It has nothing to do with going to a worse program. And everything to do with the HC at Wisconsin. Frankly put, he doesn't give a crap about player futures. Either in improving or developing them for the NHL or their life after college. He's there to win games, and win games only.
He has his guys, guys he either brought with him or ones that he is bringing in. All of which are older players, and very few have NHL draft pedigree. None of whom are the ones leaving.
The 4 leaving were given the short end of the stick at Wisconsin. Rarely played, low minutes, and very few opportunities to play with actual talent. Hence, low productivity. Of the 4, Cruz got the most TOI and time within the top-six, and had the best production of the 4 because of it. He's still getting the hell out of dodge.
That school is not conducive to, or cares, about an NHL prospects overarching development.
AZ may be a lesser school, but it'll be 10× better for Cruz's development going forward.

I seriously wouldn't consider trading Mojo straight up for PLD. And that's WITH retention on PLD. That's how much I hate the idea of it.
There's literally no chance I give either Rossi (not even in the worst Armageddon imaginable would I consider this) or Gustavsson (same deal) in a PLD swap.
As you correctly stated, he's a malcontent, one that Minnesota should never consider or be brought up again.
Furthermore, Rossi is literally PLD, but with a team first attitude and an actual NHL caliber work ethic. It's on par with JEE's really. The F*** are you moving him for that malcontent for?
The only way I could ever stomach this is if we got him fully retained, plus their next two 1st's, for Merrill.
Unreasonable and Unrealistic, I know. But that's how I feel.

It very likely equals my level of interest in trading Boldy.
So we're even. Sound fair?
However, my prior comment has f***all to do with your's and my level of interest in moving our teams players. Instead, it dealt with one factor, and one factor only. Perceived player values.
You made a asinine comment in regards to what it would cost to acquire Tkachuk. My response was made entirely to disabuse you of that notion, and set the record straight.
You don't want to move Brady? That's fine.
Wanna state that it'd take an overpay to pry him out of Ottawa? Also fine.
But asking for THREE total equivalent 1st round talents in value back for him when one of those pieces involved is one that carries the EXACT SAME LEVEL of value of Brady himself is where I draw the line. Asking for anything more than that, especially two top prospects in this case, is going to get you ripped to shreds. Everytime.
Just saying.

Can we NOT trade for Brady, please.
He's never has been or played a single second of time at RW on his off-hand side for the entirety of his career. He's strictly a LW.
So playing him there is asinine.
Boldy on the other hand IS and always has played RW whenever he wasn't being experimented at center. RW is his NATURAL position.
Furthermore, Boldy is quite literally in the same class of player/tier as Brady, with similar levels of production over the last three years and damn near the same PPG. Brady just hits more. Well good for him. BOLDY COSTS $1.2M LESS, FOR TWO YEARS LONGER.
Even if this were to happen. That's not a trade I'd consider, as it'd strictly be a 1v1, so throwing BOTH Lambos AND Rossi into the deal for a VERY late 1st is questionable at best.
We're much much better off keeping both Boldy and Rossi, and their combined future production, than packaging them in a gross overpay for a player we neither need or should want over what we already have.

Gustavsson plus
Typically, I like your work. But I question this one. As I have two issues with it.
1) Gustavsson, despite his rocky year. Should still roughly fetch and/or be around a mid 2nd to late 2nd round pick in in terms of value right now.
So why is Minnesota giving up a 2nd rounder in value to move up just TWO spots? I don't care if it's the 10th OVA pick, so ergo... a (q)top-ten(/q) pick. The difference between 10th OVA and the 12th OVA pick still isn't that big.
It cost Guerin just a 3rd to move up two spots to nab Wallstedt at 20th OVA. In 2021. I can't see it costing much more than that, apart from maybe a C-level prospect to move up.
2) If Guerin is looking to move up, and considering moving good assets to do it. I would imagine he's planning on moving higher up than just 10th OVA. There's just no reason to do it.
Minnesota is guaranteed to have a crack at at least one of either Buium, Catton, Iginla, Yakemchuk, Helenius, Greentree, or MBN at 12th OVA.
Which begs the question, unless one of the can't miss guys drops to 10th OVA. Why does Minnesota consider this? Or more pertinently, why does NJ PASS UP on said can't miss prospect. Everyone laughed at Edmonton for doing just that when they passed on Wallstedt.
