I know but if the Leafs won the first overall pick in 2015 and took McDavid, they probably would not take Matthews first overall in 2016, opting for a winger instead. So instead of Marner/Matthews, they'd have McDavid/Laine.</div></div>
No way thats true. They would take Matthews either way to have a Crosby/Malkin thing going on. You take the best player. ALWAYS

If this team had a good defense... watch out
Carolina won't let go of Hanifin so easy, but you're on the right track. Maybe some pick and another prospect.
You're right though Buffalo is looking great.

Manson is playing first pairing RHD minutes and you want to give them Leo?
Also Darling is going to be a starter somewhere next season

Realistic, key moves
Manson is pretty valuable, no way ANA pulls this deal. I think at this point he is part of thier untouchable core. I think Vatanen is a more likely target.
That being said, if they were to trade Manson it would be for prospects that don't need to be protected and picks. They'd want a first and Nielsson for example

Roslovic and Connor both skate as well or better than ehlers. Little, perrealt and scheifele are both above average speed wise. Wheeler is a burner. Laine is the only one in the top 9 that can't fly and he isn't slow and only one in their forward group below average is lowry. Also Helle is a. 911 sv% goalie as a 23 year old league average is. 913 hes more than fine if you get an average backup.</div></div>
IDK man, look at his adv numbers. His SV% looks inflated because he's stopping a lot of low danger scoring chances. His predictive PK numbers and high danger SV% is 21st and 28th respectively. Thats pretty ass. Not saying he's going to be bad, but he's not ready. I think this has to permeate the Jets' consciousness because they can't take the next step forward without solid, consistent goaltending. Ask yourself honestly if Helly has done that this year

Jeez dude, your spending is worse than Trudeau's.
Shattenkirk is going to NY. And thats a good thing; committing 7mil to a PP guy is a terrible idea. Especially since we've got a great PP already. We need a possession defenceman, you feel me?
Secondly, giving 3mil to a fourth line centre in Boyle is suicide in the cap era. I doubt he gets a raise at this point in his career.
Brodin would be sick, but he has insane numbers and a great contract, so I doubt Minny bites. He's a L shot so that would make gardiner expendable.
Losing Carrick is bad asset management too, he's been solid and he still young and developing.
Halak might be a good move

Hardest Part of the Rebuild
Interesting, never heard Niskanen's name thrown around before. He has good possession numbers and is not that old. I wonder what it would take to get him; two waiver pick ups is definitely not enough.
Brodin is essentially a #1 Dman, makes Gardiner expendable. But it would be amazing to grab him. I wonder if they'd want to trade Dumba before Brodin.

The Drouin trade is actually pretty interesting. Decent value, not sure how salary would work out. But if MTL can finesse Duchene from Sakic then the Habs become a contender

Yeah its a tricky situation. At least Vancouver has some aging superstars that keeps them temporarily afloat. Maybe the Wings will stop delaying the inevitable if they finish bottom 3 in the East

You're gonna lose him for nothing though, the buyer has all the leverage. Although I'm not positive this is the best you can get. But I also doubt that the Leafs would give any real assets.

So who is touchable from the Ducks' D? Every thread that has Lindholm in a trade people say he's untouchable. Same with Montour. Is it just Manson?

Otherwise this is a good team if you're going for the cup that year. Otherwise you're completely screwed when it comes time to resign your future guys like Eichel.
Also Nylander should be ready to play next year, why don't you have him in your lineup?</div></div>
Minnesota will need to move a Dman due to the expansion draft. Two 2nds and a fairly decent prospect for a player they might lose for nothing is rather decent compensation.
As for Nylander, many believe he will still need some time in the AHL next year.</div></div>
They can trade other D-men. Brodin is probs untouchable with the way he's been playing.
