It's hard to ignore age when it sounds like the Flames want an elite goaltender return for him (something like #10 OV pick in value) or as close as possible. I think the price will come down eventually, but Conroy probably has up to the TDL to move him unless Markstrom wants something done in the off-season. Markstrom will likely be viewed as a two-year rental by teams and I think the reduced price Conroy would seek is something like 1st+2nd+3rd/4th in value but may settle for 1st+2nd/3rd/4th. Whatever the price a 1st+ for a goaltender is not a price to scoff at, teams won't exactly be lining up to pay that even if you ignore age.

I do think there are several types of teams that in theory could be interested, but when you consider the teams' cap situation, or need for their future assets, etc it might not be the best idea to give up a 1st+ for him.

1) A team that needs goalie help

-LA: Expectations: Make playoffs/building a perennial contender, Urgency: medium, Cap: limited, Assets: Abundant, Chances of a trade: Unlikely
-OTT: Expectation: Make playoffs, Urgency: medium to high (#7 may want out), Cap: limited, Assets: effectively limited (need to forfeit a 1st in the next 2-years, most of their valuable pieces they'll want to keep), Obstacle: Need to move Korpisalo, Chances of a trade: Unlikely
-WSH: Make playoffs & hope to win, Urgency: high (aging core on last legs), Assets: limited and needed (on verge of a rebuild/retool), Obstacle: Need to move Kuemper, Chances of a trade: Highly unlikely

2) A team that already has their potential future starting goalie and may want help

-Buf: Expectation: Make the playoffs, Urgency: High (GM's job may be on the line), Cap: Abundant, Assets: Surplus, Chances of a trade: Decent (if their goalies struggle)
-CBJ: Expectation: Make the Playoffs (not urgent), Cap: Abundant, Assets: Surplus, Obstacle: Need to move Merzlikins, Chances of a trade: Low to Medium
-Edm: Expectation: Win the Cup, Urgency: Very High (#29 and #97 may walk in FA/request a trade) Cap: very limited, Assets: Normal amount but they do need homegrown talent Obstacle: Need to move Campbell, Chances of a trade: Highly unlikely
-NJ: Expectation: Make the playoffs/build a perennial contender, Urgency: Medium, Cap: available, Assets: Surplus, Chances of a trade: High (if they need goaltending still)
-Tor: Expectation: Win the Cup, Urgency: High (need to make most of the 4 years #34 is under contract), Cap: limited (they similar cap to NJ but priority needs to be given to spending on defense), Futures: limited, Chances of a trade: Decent

3) A team that is trying to become competitive and is looking to add good players but not necessarily looking for a goalie at all

SEA: Expectations: Make the playoffs, Urgency: Low to medium, cap: abundant, assets: abundant, chances of a trade: unlikely
UTAH: Expectations: Make the playoffs, Urgency: Low to medium, cap: abundant, assets: abundant, chances of a trade: unlikely

4) A team that has a top goalie and a goalie of the future that may look to make changes between the pipes

CAR: Expectations: Win the Cup, Urgency: High, Cap: available but have more needs, assets: likely not available for a goalie (management is frugal), Obstacles: Need to find a buyer for Andersen, Chances of a trade: highly unlikely

Markstrom's NMC also can't be ignored and also the trade protection of the other goalies mentioned. Even with retention, a lot of the teams would have difficulty adding a 4M+ goalie if they address their biggest needs, without other trades. From what I recall the goalie UFA class this year is particularly weak, but a lot of those teams would be fine with tandems so that could be more appealing than paying the assets to acquire Markstrom. CGY also has competition on the trade market with Ullmark potentially being available and Gustavsson being on the block (a good tandem option).

Edit: Detroit is another team that can probably fall under 1, they would need to move Husso. Yzerman is frugal though so he won't be giving up a huge haul for him.
